Always wanted to hear rotten apple unplugged man this is so sweet
Me too!! I’m lost for words 😭😭😭
And this version hits so SOOOO hard. Everything about it is absolutely delicious
Same. They were playing it in concerts late '93 but acoustic sounds much better and it's a shame they didn't include it at Unplugged.
Yes
Even if it’s audio from a 100 yards backstage it’s still amazing.
This man has entered legend status by providing us with not one but two treats of Layne-AIC for Christmas 🎄
It's a "double shot" of Alice!
I’m telling you I love this band hooked when I heard them saw the dirt tour listening to this thank you for putting this out if you have any mad season layne’s best work vocally my opinion but again thank you who ever you are
🎄Yeaaah Layne-AIC for Christmas 🎄 Legend!!
Rotten apple sounds absolutely incredible on acoustic. Wow
ive been waiting for a performance of it like this for SO long
Its like they are playing a joke on us only giving us a snippet of a good quality version
@@Turk_2023i released a version of this which has more fill and the second chorous
@@toxiflexx04 Cool yea I meant video
@@Turk_2023 oh i was talking just the audio
Rotten Apple is a pure rush of euphoria to the ears. Nothing like it of any other song ever. Goosebumps
literally PERFECTION
My all-time favorite AIC song ❤it
Drummer is seriously underrated. Especially on rotten apple. How did he come with something that just fits this song so perfectly
I never noticed how cool the drumming on that song was until seeing this, very cool
Jar of Flies is damn near perfect
Haha, it’s hard to tell if he’s upset or being funny, the drummer faces a difficult task dialing back for acoustic performances.
I wouldn’t say his underrated he’s pretty well known for being a really great drummer and he was in one of the biggest bands of the 90s. As big as it get in the drum world. He’s just never did flashy over the top playing because that’s not what AIC songs needed. He served the song.
he has a name
Rotten apple should have been on unplugged
I stay away
@@bls8959 both
So should most of Jar of flies except whale and wasp, don’t follow, and swing on this.
It would have been incredible. AIC Unplugged is already amazing, but it would have been the cherry on top if it replaced the track "Killer is Me" with Rotten Apple. I would add that "Stay Away" would have also been awesome, but oh well. At least we can appreciate what we got.
Should of *
After this show Layne only played live 7 times with Alice In Chains. Unplugged, the 4 Kiss shows and 2 late night TV shows and that it.
And he starts wearing gloves hidding marks🧤😞
plus the 7 shows he did with Mad Season
@@jakecattoi4983 OP literally said “with Alice In Chains”.
@@dewilew2137 thanks for being autistic on the internet. Jesus Christ
This version of Rotten Apple is simply wonderful, amazing footage
No Excuses in my opinion is the best example of Layne and Jerry’s chemistry when it comes to harmonization. Chills everywhere. Truly a legendary duo.
I've got the isolated vocal on my channel.
Not spam. There's nothing much else on my channel at all. Have a look. Or don't. Up to you. Lol..
i stay away also
You’re totally right I LOVE no excuses. Easily my favourite AiC song.
I saw Layne in a three piece suit at the start of their set on Lollapolooza in 93 and it was like 95 degrees that day! Needless to say he took the jacket tie vest and shirt off after playing Would the first song to start the show! Very charismatic singer and great stage presence! His voice very unique and an unbelievable range! RIP Layne!
Rotten Apple is one of the most underrated Alice songs ever. Wish they would’ve played at the unplugged show
Seriously, this is like the Holy Grail of AIC footage. Their only show in 1994 and probably the last time Layne was somewhat healthy on stage. I've heard audio of the actual set they performed that night but this footage of the rehearsal is nothing short of a revelation, never knew any of it existed. I'm glad we got one more album with Layne but this was essentially the end of prime Alice.
the self-titled album is amazing. I value it over Facelift
@@codelingmusic4559If it weren't for the Nothin' Song, I'd almost say Tripod was better than Dirt.
@@fishactivation5087let’s not get carried away now 😂
@@monstrousnardsAgreed. Definitely some filler on that album: Nothing song, so close are just bad songs. Brush away is meh. To each their own...

First the Tiger Stadium footage, now this treasure of a video... this is turning out to be the most wonderful Christmas ever and it is all thanks to you.
I'd already given up hope that we'd ever get to see footage from these shows which is why I consider this a true Christmas miracle and there are absolutely no words that could ever describe just how thankful I am!
And what a video this is - getting to hear the acoustic version of "Rotten Apple" is something truly special and knowing this was their only show that year just makes it that much more precious! I'm overwhelmed with happiness! Thank you!
Agreed. This is some rare stuff.Quality is amazing once again!
I kno dude this is so sick
fucking true dude what a gift
this really wasn’t that long ago if you think about it. giving up after less than 30 years for unreleased footage when it took the beatles over 40 years to release some.
Everytime some new AIC footage comes out it's like opening an old wound... Sometimes I even forget how good and unique their music really was... RIP Layne, forever missed but never forgotten
I'd kill to hear that entire live rendition of Rotten Apple. I never had the privilege of seeing Alice live with Layne (would have been 1 years old when this aired), but I am grateful enough to see Stone Temple Pilots and Soundgarden live with their original lineups.
Seeing Layne on the drums is really sweet , knowing he initially wanted to be a drummer. This footage is nothing short of amazing , thank you for this
He's a pretty solid drummer there's even rumors he laid down some drum tracks for dirt
@@mikeandike2021dirt the album or the song?
@@siftingz the album
@@mikeandike2021 Thats bs lol
It's possible for demos. A lot of that record was co-written between him and Jerry, so it's entirely possible that Jerry and him jammed together stuff, musically, with Jerry playing guitar and him on drums, before coming up with the lyrics and melodies, before bringing them to the full band as completed songs. @@bls8959
The only time they preformed in 1994. Amazing!!!!
Layne sounds way more alive and stronger here than in 96 during Unplugged. RIP
I think this being just a soundcheck- he didn’t feel nearly as much pressure as he did with the Unplugged gig..
he was just having fun here..
Your right, his voice sounds really good here.
He sounded great in 96
Kinda Funny Sean in the interview saying this was their version of unplugged because they would never do the real unplugged. Then they end up doing it later and it’s arguably their most famous performance.
Not surprised since they had just recorded Jar of Flies a few months before and were on the road for most of ‘93. ‘96 is the year that things really started to head south for him.
Very true. He was stronger, maybe one of the times he was off dope too though; as he had a lot of stints of sobriety throughout the decade. He may have been straight here. It's been a publicly acknowledged fact he shot up before '96 unplugged.
Good lord.. You're digging out all of the old amazing relics. Best Christmas miracle i know of to date holy hell. This is sick.
This was my roughest year since turning my life around. I threw away 6+ years of sobriety by choosing to use after several setbacks that were out of my control just seemed to pile up. Throughout 2022 I went on two month+ binges and two that were less than 2 weeks. My Spotify wrapped said I was in the top 0.1% of AIC listeners, mostly songs of 3 legged dog. Layne & crew got me through the darkest days and loneliest nights I've experienced in over half a decade and I'm forever grateful for these albums
the dog record is the sound of hardcore drug abuse
I think it is the space that I have been in myself. It has raised to a whole new level for me. I am truly feeling him right now.
Alice In Chains and Tool, my fav bands
I can watch AIC sound checks all day, especially when Layne and Jerry are harmonizing 🙏🏻
Why they didn’t play rotten apples in unplugged is beyond me! ❤❤❤ thank you and Merry Christmas AIC fans
Theu did ?
Layne and Jerry's vocal harmonies are some of the best from any duo ever. They sound so good. This is awesome to see. They absolutely should've played Rotten Apples on the Unplugged gig.
Every time I see him with gloves and glasses, I feel bad because I know he had already given up and reached an abyss, what a loss, Unparalleled Talent! Long Live Layne 👑
I know me too. I’ve got to a point that when I see the gloves it just breaks my heart over and over again
@@kdsmokeliterally me too, I think we all feel like this and are experiencing the same feelings. Aic pulls us in so much
Wow I’m speechless. I’m only 21 so I never had a chance to experience these guys live. They are pretty much gods in my mind, they have done so much for me and I wasn’t even alive when they created their music. (I’m talking about the original lineup) Hearing a live acoustic version of Rotten Apple brought me to tears as it pains me they didn’t include it in their unplugged set. That song and entire record means so much to me. I’m in shock after watching this haha

So rare, thx buddy
The Layne physical evolution between end October '93 and early '94 is sad man
He lost an insane amount of weight in like 3 months, it's brutal
@@alisonberzins1107 if you want something more brutal : a '96 aic footage for Kiss opening (the first live of the last 4 shows) is on youtube since one week, no more spoil, but god damn it's horrifying -_-

That Rotten Apple performance…
Holy. Fuck.
Literally just got into Alice In Chains and discovering that new footage still arises is incredible

First it was the Them bones extras? Followed by the Tiger stadium footage and now this aswell. It's great to be an Alice Fan right now. Never did think we'd get to see this! They sound incredible. Layne sounds perfect here!
The debut of the gloves. All of his footage is truly incredible
You don't have to love Alice in Chains drown in love with Jar of flies!!! One of the best things ever happens in music
Man his voice was something else, so effortlessly powerful
This live version of rotten apple is absolutely beautiful. Layne sounds awesome, and it's just a soundcheck!
Rotten Apple!!! My favorite acoustic song from them. How haunting & powerful! Thank you! How can this possibly be almost 30 years ago….
Always good to see and hear more of Layne. Never gets old to me.
The only thing that could make this better is if there was a live recording of this show. I can only imagine what melancholy magic Layne would still be bringing the world with his haunting vocals. One of a kind never to be replaced.
Damn only if someone had the foresight to film that entire Rotten Apple performance in it’s entirety
I am losing my damn mind with this new footage of the guys with Layne. It's like he is still around, it's such a weird feeling, but pleasant nonetheless.
If Santa never comes this year, I certainly just did. Thanks for bringing me a gift that will keep on giving for years to come.
Freaking love Laynes voice cutting through everything! Miss that dude so damn much. Miss all the Seattle front men!
Thanks again Copperpot for sharing this rare gem!
I keep coming back! Please don’t ever take down this video. It’s pure magic. The way Layne sings Rotten Apple is indescribable. 🤍
All these Alice videos that are appearing lately is making me so happy.
this is incredible! Rotten Apple is my favorite song ever and this version was so haunting.
This year was the last year Layne's voice sounded like it did in the Dirt era before the grit and rasp was lost to addiction. Thank you sir 🎄
I wouldnt say he lost his rasp, his voice simply got really thin
Yeah he stilled pulled it off on unplugged though. Even in 96 he could of made a full recovery.
Naw, Layne still performed great up through 1995. All the Mad Season stuff was excellent and Staley was on top of his game.
His voice sounds closer to the 95-96 part of the timeline here than it does to that of 93.
It sounds a bit higher and with less power than the Dirt era.
I understand they’re doing an acoustic show and whatnot, but it doesn’t really sound like it possesses the same thunder he’s put into shouty songs like A Little Bitter, Dirt, Hate To Feel, Rain When I Die etc. His voice here sounds more like the one on the Self Titled Album than Dirt, and definitely considerably removed from the Facelift days.
Nothing's more sad than hearing him stumble through "Another Brick In The Wall", his last recording apparently.
Holy shit what a treat! I’ve prayed we’d see footage from this concert.
9:26 Mike saying he plays Zombies Ate my Neighbors, he is awesome 🤘
Yea I know commented about that to and you’re awesome for knowing the greatest game ever also 🤟👍

Again, absolute knockout footage! Thank you 🙏!
The footage of Layne during Rotten Apple from behind @7:34 with the chandeliers is reminiscent of the '96 Unplugged footage! Positively euphoric and blissful!
Honestly, it's much too bad that the only audio we have of this appearance is from the audience where you can't hear much of anything, but, as always, Layne's stunningly powerful and unstoppable voice carries over it all and into the heavens!
Staley Seasons Greetings!
All Hail Lord Layne 🤘🔥🤘

Amazing! Thank you for sharing such precious AiC footage on your channel to which I just subscribed. "Rotten Apple" and "Don't Follow" would have been beautiful on Unplugged. It is interesting that Sean stated this benefit would be the closest AiC will come to performing an official Unplugged concert.
