when people say "it's not as good as layne" what did you expect, the man to be possessed by the spirit of layne and suddenly layne's voice pops out of his throat? it's a cover song. get over it.
Layne was unlike anybody else so what do people expect? A cover should never sound the same as the original. What would be the point? Bearing in mind he also just randomly did this in a sound check.
Love how the guy shouts out "Nutshell" and the guy recording just laughs.. "haha, nutshell" like he would never play it and corey instantly starts playing nutshell. ;D
Love the part at :35 where they cameraman laughs at "Nutshell", right before he actually performs it. Very cool. Bet he was NOT expecting that to happen.
This song is one of the most soul crushing painful songs ever written.....if u’ve ever had a substance problem, or have been in some really dark places, this song is 💯 relatable
For the negative comments... This is just a sound check, people! Don´t be so hard on the guy... It´s true that those are not the exact chords and guitar strumming; and he missed the lyrics in some places, etc. But I believe the point was not making a perfect cover, he was just warming up for a show and pleasing the people who where there with something unusual for them. Considering Corey Taylor is a great singer, I have no doubts that If he rehearses this properly and plays it live in a real show; then it would sound perfect.
He def has another version of nutshell that he played acoustic and sounds pretty good. No one will touch Aaron lewis' cover. That dude can sing anything. He even makes country bad ass by singing what hurts the most. He def does a bad ass cover of nutshell. Sounds almost as good as layne.
there seems to always be assholes on every video lol fuck em' I love this and Corey is awesome...hell no1s Layne but Corey is epic in his own and does a brilliant job
Jorge Roberto He couldn't do corey's songs. Lane couldn't do corey's heavy songs or even a lot of his softer songs because they have complete different voices. Layne's voice was perfect for grunge, but Corey Taylors voice works for almost anything he was born with a gift.
God damn this hits me in the heart, I’ve watched this vid probably 10 times, people really don’t know how great Layne was and how great Corey is!...and then he plays Ray!, hope this audience knows what that saw at a sound check
Exactly... Imagine all these idiots saying "he's not Layne"... Yea just take a guitar and do it better dumbasses. It was a soundcheck and man, do you guys even know the chords for nutshell? can u guys play it? he paid some respect to AIC and Layne by doing this. He knew it was being recorded that's for sure.

For all the people comparing this to Aaron Lewis, Aaron's recording was a professional studio quality acoustic mix. This is live, on a shitty PA, recorded through a cell phone. Lower your expectations. He was probably smoking a joint. ;)
Corey Taylor, you will never know how much of all y'all your songs from Slipknot to stone sour . Your songs have kept me going in life and I just want to say thank you for everything you do. Your a miracle and a saving grace to me.
Everyone is missing the point. This is NOT a cover, and Corey didn't even perform the whole song. If u listen to what everyone is saying in the video u hear Corey mentioning it's just a SOUND CHECK.
@@joshuabaerga4806 the whole point of a cover is that it is your own interpretation of a song. Sounding exactly the same as a song is just boring, putting your own spin on it is the whole point. Corey's voice in this was extremely good for a soundcheck.
I LOVE when someone takes a song and makes it their own but does not change the feeling!!! That's when you know they respect the original artist and intent. He nailed it.
I LOVE these videos of people randomly shouting out nutshell and the artist just plays it. They never hesitate,. All respectable rock or metal artists just know this song..and its so awesome.. because it really deserves to be so recpected. A fantastic song by AIC.
The Ginz Tell me about it. The other day I was at the bar and someone played this song on the Juke and for the entire length of the song I was completely phased out

For gods sake, yeah, there is one and only Layne. and it was Layne's song, no one can top that. Corey is doing his version, and making it own. Get over, it.
Well coming from a musician that made it with a metal band I have to say this is a damn good cover. Sure he is no Layne. But it's awesome he played it as request..
Corey with a cold still sounds better than any other vocalist alive so when he's healthy nobody comes close to having the type if raw vocal skills that the legendary Corey Taylor has, he's a flawless singer.
I often wonder what Layne would think of all the many ways and levels of absolute adoration he and his amazing voice have garnered over these many years. Shock? Surprise? Revulsion? "Whatevs"?
Cory Taylor has one of the best voices in music. Highs and lows, the guy hits them all. I'm sorry for those of you who cannot hear this...You must be tone deaf.
"I'm not taking requests."
"Nutshell!!!"
"I'm taking requests."
Nutshell is THAT song
Corey:what should I play

Corey: *instantly starts playing*

Aaron Lewis's version was about as good as it gets.
First, William Duvall is great. Second, Facelift has a singer that sounds JUST like Layne. Third, Corey KILLED it.

He was playing the chords and solo from it, the Cameraman was laughing because he was probably gonna play it anyways.
