1:24 those are heavy-duty. just not blue. Obviously, you never saw old "not-heavy duty" parts on 1/10 Traxxas series. And also some new heavy-duty parts come in black. It may be a box art mistake but it's not a tragedy. p.s. you can always upgrade to aluminum parts and those come in any color you like.
Glad to see you got an answer, Hobby Town for the win. Traxxas guy probably heard the same complaint a hundred times. I bet there is a astrix somewhere on the box or paperwork saying colors may not be the same. it happens, but at least you can relax and enjoy what looks to be an awesome rally car.
Lot's of good information; glad you figured it out. I know it is a little disappointing, but the color of the parts on the box not matching the inside of the RC is not that big of a deal IMO. As long as the parts are what they are suppose to be - heavy duty. Not a big deal unless, there are different model numbers for the different colors. I am a regular customer of that HobbyTown on Turkey Creek. I am somewhat new to the hobby and usually have a lot of questions. I can say every person has always been very nice and very helpful. They are great!
Excellent video with lots of good info. The fact that you do the research for all of us and document it in videos like this is the reason I will always watch your videos. Good on you for the helping hand!
I can verify that the rear clipless body mount on top of the shock tower. The mounting holes are incompatible with the “older” style shock towers holes. I converted my old rally to newer clipless mounting. The heavy duty parts are the only ones that are compatible with the new clipless system. Most likely you got the Raptor R heavy duty parts. (They’re that black/charcoal gray parts)
Thanks for the video just got mine Saturday mine are grey as well and was questioning myself. The box shows blue parts as well. Ordered through amazon said to be direct ship from Traxxas.
Thanks for the information. I have an Orange VXL that does have all of the blue parts. I bought my car when the new VXL's were released a few months back.
Lol. Yep. That's Traxxas. They really care about what customers think. The proof is in this video when he called them. That's why they've been selling vxl 3s cars that won't ruin 3s without thermal thermal shutdowns every 2 minutes until it melts. Customers told them they like paying extra to add fans themselves.
The blue used to indicate that they were 'cold weather resistant'. They compounded the plastic in a way that they didnt get brittle in freezing temperatures. Now this is just speculation but since Traxxas incorporated these parts on the whole line of cars im betting that they just thought that the black would look more professional instead of a clowny blue . Personally i dont mind the blue as i have a couple sets of the old blue arms and theyre fantastic . Hope this helps, cheers! All that said, ironically enough, i have a similar story.. ish .. i had been wanting the ST rally, ya the one that got replaced by this one. Brushed, expensive for what it was, they go 14mph out the box . The day comes and i take it home and immediately finger it all up .. but the diffs feel grindy . Call Traxxas and tell the guy i know it sounds impossible but both diffs are bad like they didn't put them together right. He says no way, so i go to my hobbytown (funny parallels eh?) holler at Dick, he gets on the horn and i hear him say stuff like ya absolutely no evidence of it touching the ground or being driven . Hangs up and says ya youll have two new diffs next week . The agents you call hear all kinds of stories day after day so its asking a bit for them to give a crap if you are telling the truth or not, but they do their job well and thats something we are losing in the rc world . I hear horizon has some kind of ticket system and they wont call you until you drop serious monies. Oh well . Go rip the green bean some more!
Looks to me like someone bought it to upgrade their own truck, then returned it with the stock parts from their own truck. I think it's a common shady practice these days with many products. Most of the time, the retailer might not catch it.
Most of the Traxxas reps are really nice, but they do have a couple that make you feel like you are bothering them....your hobby shop will take care of you, they sound just like my local hobby shop, beey cool!!
Traxxas used to have good customer service. I called them recently about a problem and he gave me the same bad attitude. Really makes me not want to buy their products
This is a great example of why i went from buying only Traxxas to only having 2 Traxxas left in my collection. That first phone call should have cleared everything up in 2 minutes rather than 3 1/2 plus hours driving.
So you must be new to this the heavy duty parts come in all colors not just blue those are absolutely heavy duty parts I'm not even a fan of TRAXXAS and I can clearly see that the box is showing you blue to highlight them to show them better normally they come to match the body so the blue rally would have blue

I have an early release vxl rally and it came with all the blue plastics. I think it’s just the they switched plastic colors and didn’t say anything about it
For the Stampede the BL2S are blue heavy duty and the VXL parts are gray heavy duty and I own both. Probably just the way different molds and plastic resin looks?
This is some of the reasons I don't like Traxxas they shipped me a drag truck with on esc and told me he couldn't do anything but I bought it from Traxxas
Trust me they’re the heavy duty parts, they’re just a different color. My 4wd slash BL2s has the blue heavy duty parts. My 2wd rustler and stampede BL2s models have the gun metal colored heavy duty parts. You didn’t get ripped off. Guessing that “Mike” guy or whoever pointed it out is a “for no good reason” traxxas hater who just wants to complain.

It seems like they should at least put something in the box that would make the buyer aware of the changes.
