I think isayama was threatened to make this trash ending by an eremika shipper, because the ending doesn't feel like isayama's and that's the only explanation
I absolutely _hate_ it when writers change the direction of their stories because they notice that a lot of fans are making correct guesses about the way it will go. That is something they should absolutely NEVER do, especially if they already have everything planned out since it will either create severe contradictions later in the story, or force them to completely re-write the rest of it. Even if most people can predict what will happen, so what? Just let them have their moment to go "Yay, I was/we were right!" and then move on. There is one specific example of a significant plot point being correctly guessed by a vast majority of the fandom and it NOT being changed that immediately comes to mind, and that's with My Hero Academia. This one specific plot twist was correctly predicted by a majority of fans for YEARS and it wasn't changed because of the significant impact it had on the story and how well it fit with the pre-established themes, which was definitely for the better and goes to show that even if pretty much everyone can guess an upcoming plot point it can still be played out exactly as planned and be impactful. I won't get into details to avoid spoiling people, but those of you that are caught up with the My Hero Academia manga should know which one I mean.
Yeah it's like he absolutely wanted to make everything different from the fans' guessing. I mean, it's even better imo if the fans can have an idea of where this is going. Would have been better than surprising us with this type of ending...

I don't believe for a second that Isayama didn't know what he was doing or didn't know how to end the manga, the parallels and foreshadowing was all there, i.g. Ymir and Historia parallels, Eren and Historia's questionable interactions, Historia and freckled Ymir's relationship, Eren being the one to free Ymir, "I dream of being born into a world without fate or curses," the hooded devil, the music video for the third ending, etc. I think he just said he didn't know how he was going to end it, because he can't straight out admit he was forced to end it this way. Kodansha would get a lot of heat, and rightfully so.
and the fact that eremika fans are saying they “”won””, like no yall kodansha won 😭 they dont care about u they care about your wallets 😭 and if the love comedy turned out to be true then... wow, talk about tone-deaf, kodansha really do not care about the severe implications of their ending
Dude, Isayama's favorite chapter contained the part about "because he was born into this world" and when Historia was crowned. Maybe this is one of his messages that the editors meddled with the original ending.
Well, how it treated as "one shot" or "something that doesnt have anything with main stories" in this interview make it sound they try to defends the ending so bad.

The company and editor hold a lot of power over the writer, I blame them. Contracts probably prevent him from directly admitting it. But I think Kodansha made him write a more marketable ending. Yams clearly had something else in mind, you can tell from the first 123 chapters. There are interviews where he’s stated that he’s had the whole series planned out from the start. He also said things like,”My ideal character is one that does not lie” and,” Mikasa’s arc will probably end with her separating from Eren.” But that didn’t happen, he either changed his mind at the last arc, or he didn’t have a choice in the matter. The rumbling arc just felt different, and 139’s art was messier than usual. It looked like Armin was handing Eren a piece of shit. And the dialogue makes fun of the chapter,”I didn’t expect something so pathetic.” Kind of sounds like he’s making fun of the ending. It makes me feel like he didn’t want it to end it like this. I mean, imagine spending 13 years working on such an amazing story that you’re so passionate about, but then your editor forces you to change the ending to be more marketable. It’s gotta hurt, which is probably why he’s been so quiet prior to this interview.

Odd that this guy says you need to use logic, and then proceeds to rely on an argument from authority, saying that because isayama didn’t like it it’s automatically bad. There are plenty of criticisms to aim at it, but I do think the ending as is has interesting elements and plenty to think about analytically.
@@elmehdi8332 I’ve watched it. He reads the chapter and makes fun of all the panels without exploring the possibility of them having nuance. Also worth noting is that isayama says in this interview that he wasn’t able to properly convey the themes that he wanted to, he never implies that the ending itself is out of line with the story or its themes, just that it didn’t convey them as well as it could. This is a weak criticism of the author, and the two hour “dissection” of the final chapter never reaches deeper than the skin.
I like how people are saying that this is the ending Isayama wanted because he didn't come out and say the ending was bad. GRRM clearly stated in an interview to never look up fan theories of your own work! If people are getting it right, you don't change the ending!
Exactly those who saw the ending coming get rewarded while those who didn't get a nice surprise
And the sad thing he catered to the major fandom over the integrity of his work.
He's right but that's the same animal who hasn't finished his own books 🤡

Literally nothing here says the ending is bad. Quit twisting shit to suit your stupid fucking logic.
It’s gotta hurt, which is probably why he’s been so quiet prior to this interview.

in the anime and MAPPA we belive.
Ppl are still gonna try to defend it lmaooooooo
i absolutely love your reactions,i also watched your other videos. i really like the fact that you are brave to say exactly what's in your mind. The ending was bad,and i agree with everything you said. Also there is an amazing team who is working on an fan made ending,it's called AOT no Requiem, and i would love to see your reaction on that ending. it's a pretty big project who will do justice to all the characters who were destroied in 139
yes i will read it live
