My favorite bird. Awesome little creatures with their “ squeeze toy” sound.
Yes!!! Let the nesting begin!
Take care! 😀
Bless all their little hearts💜
Not just informative but very good footage. Thank you so much Lesley.❤🥰🐦
How truly enjoyable your photography is! The excellence surpasses all expectations, and teaching is highly informative. You have helped make birds my most enjoyable and endearing of nature's wild life. Thank you!
Thank you for such a lovely comment. I'm happy that you enjoy these videos. Take care

Simply AWESOME Lesley! Thank you SO much! What a wonderful voice and inspiration you have! 🙂
As usual ...beautiful, professional footage with interesting content. Thank you so much for sharing.
Thanks very much :)
Lesley as usual another beautifully produced video of our feathered friends . I really enjoy the way your videos capture the natural activities , so up close and personal. Thank you my friend . 🐦 ❤

You are Truly the BEST.

A joy to watch this! Thank you!
Very educational I love watching your UA-cam channel.
Amazing video of the nuthatch family and lots of interesting facts I didn't know! Mindboggling feeding requirements! Thank you, dear Leslie!
Love these little birds, I put peanuts on the deck railing, have had these friends land on my hand.😊
Wonderful video, beautiful photography! RB nuthatches are my favorite bird. I will be watching this over and over, thank you so much!
Thank you so much for the wonderful post.
Now, I know how tiny their babies really are. !!
I love these! They are winter visitors only.
They are adorable.
I can't believe someone actually gave a thumbs down. I LOVE her videos so much and I always learn something new about birds. She'll always get a thumbs up from me. Lesley thank you so much for teaching us all something about birds we may not have known. You're awesome!🕊️✌️
Lesley----beautiful little birds...upstate NY we have them but they are rare....I love them...terrific photography....stay safe and God Bless
One of my favorite birds within my piece of forest. I love listening to their cute little henk, henk, henk calls.
Their call sure is nice to hear, I agree :)
Oneof my top ten favorite birds! Thanks.
Thoroughly enjoyed the video and birding lesson. You sure know your birds Lesley. I had to laugh when you had mentioned the number of trips they made to feed the younguns and then said the parents begin to look a bit raggedy - said out loud "you would be raggedy making all those trips". I am amazed at the stamina of these tiny souls. Thank you for sharing with us - we sure need this lovely distraction right now. Be well and stay safe.
I always enjoy your videos and just hearing your voice.
Amazing work and interesting nest.Birds is so beautiful, thank you.
Love watching these beauties coming to the feeders.
They are so cute :)
Well thank you for explaining the resin around the nesting hole. I always thought it was the tree weeping resin. I learned a lot today. Blessings on you and your family and friends. 🕊🙏🖖
You're welcome, Mary. Blessings to you and your family too
So interesting, thank you! Adorable little birds.💛
Awesome video! Thanks for sharing this! Haha they’re really cute! Even the ragged one mentioned at 4:30 I thought was particularly adorable! 🥰🥰🥰
I agree she is adorable.
Thanks, Lesley 🌞 Very Cute Indeed!
Beautiful birds! My, they're busy for sure! That's a lot of feeding trips. They eat even more frequently than me during quarantine. ;-)
Love it Rob - don't think you are alone there with the eating thing. Seems a lot of people will be dieting after the lockdown. Be well and stay safe.
It's amazing how busy birds are especially during raising their young. No wonder they can look a bit ragged - no time to groom.
Thank you for posting. I love these little guys. We have some at our feeder and they are quite bossy.
Such beautiful birds

Love them birds, Have them in my yard too ❤
What a pretty little bird. 💕
That was a lot of very interesting facts. I wish I would see more of the Red-Breasted nuthatches but it is the White-Breasted nuthatches that come to my feeders. Thanks for sharing.
Joan
I wish I could see the White-breasted nuthatches, haha! We will have to trade just for a short while :) I could never give up my red-breasted nuthatches
The mighty tinies...adorbs!
The chicks vocalizing at the end were so cute. I love hearing nuthatch calls.
I know, they are too adorable!
I LOVE Leslie the Bird Nerd & her Canadian accent ....
Awesome footage, Les! Gotta admire how hard they work for their kids :)
Thank you.
Yes, it sure is amazing what they do for their children, hard not to admire them for it :)
I have a pair who bored a hole through the siding on my house. They have spent the last two days picking insulation out of it and building their nest. It's going to be a pain in the neck to repair this fall, but until then they're cute little birds and they're fun to watch.
No way! I would have never thought that nuthatches would build a nest in homes. Never heard of that before, always heard of woodpeckers doing that sort of thing. Learn something new every day.
@@LesleytheBirdNerd I had no idea what kind of bird they were when they started. I just heard a bird pecking outside my bedroom. I thought they were seeking food, until I saw the holes they made. I'm no ornithologist, but round holes like that are nesting behavior, not food seeking. I then looked them up on the innerwebs and that led me to your video. Thanks by the way. I want to put a camera on the nest but I'm afraid to cause too much stress for mamma. I do hope to get some still photos though. I'll keep you posted.
Would you be able to put something like a cork or some sort of a stopper in the hole over the winter and remove it next nesting season to prevent them from deciding they need to make more?
@@rhodawatkins4516 I hadn't even thought of that. But now that you bring it up, yes. I'll have to repair the other holes they made but that's a good idea. See this is when the interwebs works.
This is so good! The production values are off the charts. Beautiful, so well done. Thank you. In middle school I was called Bird Boy and Chicken Boy
That is very kind of you to say. Thank you.
Cute nicknames when you were in middle school :D
I like walking in wood with Lesley ☺️
@@LesleytheBirdNerd I jus saw cedar waxwing best experience ever😊☝️
@@LesleytheBirdNerd I just saw Brown headed nuthatch ☝️
Very cool! I didn’t know these little guys were like woodpeckers!
They are pretty similar to woodpeckers for sure :D
Have done a lot of photography, so to avoid complete boredom during our forced stay at home, bought 2 bird feeders. It is so much fun to watch and photo the different types. Each has their own personalities and bravery levels. I especially like the white breasted nuthatch, (with the odd angles), tufted titmouse and the chickadees. Saw 2 cedar waxwings one day and they are spectacular. Learned so much from your videos and the Merlin app. Thank you.
You get so much pleasure and relaxation from bird watching Paul. I am so glad Lesley was the reason you got interested in it. I love my birds and get a lot of enjoyment from watching them. Good luck on your forced lock down. Be well and stay safe.
@@leoniedeyoung8086 thanks for commenting. Have you tried grabbing a camera, rather than watching them. It gives you a permanent reminder of their beauty, yet simplicity.
@@pauldanesiphotography Thanks for the suggestion Paul. I will do that once I have been sprung from lock down - need film for my camera if they still make it that is. I am a senior and only have a 35mm camera. Will do my best though. Be well and stay safe. Enjoy your birding.
@@leoniedeyoung8086 I am a senior also. Digital gives you immediate look at results plus no need to pay for film or to have it developed. A simple point and shoot with a good zooming lens will be all you need.
@@pauldanesi3299 Thanks for the info Paul. Will look into that for sure. Happy birding.
I love these videos. I find them to be very relaxing and loaded with interesting facts. Production values are too notch grade A too. A treasure and a pleasure to watch. Thankyou!
"Top" notch...
I didn’t know that after leaving the nest, the babies stay for a little while longer. So cute!
When you were describing the dimensions of the nests, l kept hearing 'Half a FINCH' 😄 l thought that's a unique description, until l listened clearly. 😊
Hahaha
Thanks for the beautiful images! So informative! 🧡 2:08 In German the nuthatch is called "Kleiber", which comes from "kleben" = to glue. We only have one spevies of nuthatches, the eurasian nuthatch. They are very vocal: You can hear their "vee-vee-vee-vee-vee-vee-vee!" all the time.
Thank you, and thanks for letting me know what people in Germany call them.
♥️ love the nuthatches! 🐦
I Love your passion and knowledge of the very important flyers in our busy world thanks so much and be safe during this crazy time =)
Love your videos! I am originally from MA and now live in San Diego. I really miss seeing birds from my home state! Occasionally we would get a red breasted nuthatch at our suet! His nickname was “the bandit”, loved them! Thanks!
Beautiful and informative video. We have a pair of brown-headed nuthatches nesting in a box in our front yard in Charlotte, NC. Tiny birds with a lot of personality.
I can imagine that Brown-headed nuthatches are super adorable.
My husband has a workshop and its heated so we put a pet door in for the Ferrell cats, they passed away and the nut hatches made nests in my husband took boxes it was so cool, we watched the parents teach them to fly. Love birds.
Love your informative and beautifully done videos . Thank you for your efforts.
4:30 Poor sweetie looks so hard done by! They work so hard. I have whitebreasted nutties here. They scoot all over the walls of my brick house and peek in the windows!
Oh my gosh, that is so darn cute. You must laugh when you seeing them looking in your window. Too sweet.
Thank you Lesley! I enjoyed this!!
I always enjoy your videos ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
We have those. Those and sparrows seem less timid than other species! 🌿
Hi Lesley - Love the clear crisp closeups. 👍
I do not have nuthatches where I am located - so I 'm able to learn alot from your videos.
They are so fast - constantly busy - makes me dizzy!
Very smart of them using resin to keep predators away.
Stephanie
Love your videos--thanks so much for putting these together for us!
Super cute! I have one sleeping under the dome of my feeder
So adorable.. I don’t have that kind of nuthatches.. mine have no stripe by the eyes or color on belly.. I love them all.. as well as your videos.. thanks
Fascinating. Well done!
Very nice once again! Thanks for sharing.
Busy and Beautiful! Thank you 😊❤️
Very cool.....wow.. they're busy...I'm so focused on my guys....I don't know what they are...they are similar to nut hatches.. thank you Lesley!!! ❤❤😊
Chickadees look similar to nuthatches, it could be them maybe? :)
Thanks for the video and information, that was lovely to watch.
We have eurasian nuthatches in our garden in Madrid. It’s so interesting watching the parents teach the babies how to open sunflower seeds. They wedge them into the bark of our pine trees which allows them to hammer them open. Another habit they have, when picking the seeds from the feeder, is throwing several to the ground before choosing one. Apparently they are weighing them and will take the heavier ones first. They return for the ones on the ground later but usually they have been snapped up by our many tits or the squirrel 😃. Cheers!
What a coincidence! In a previous life, I was a Red Necked Hutsnatcher. 🗡💰🔥
Hahahaha
4:28 Hehe, just as humans after few weeks having a baby xD
I love their near constant squeaks! We mainly have white breasted nuthatches around my house. They're both pretty fun to watch. Climbing upside down and flitting back and forth. Could you do a compare type of video between the 2 types of nuthatches? How they are similar and different? Thanks again, Leslie!
Of the White-breasted and the Red-breasted nuthatch? I can certainly try :)
@@LesleytheBirdNerd Awesome, that'd be great to see. Have a safe day!
I didn't know that there were white breasted nut hatches.
stephens yes, and I believe their ranges mostly overlap. They seem to have some different characteristics though. I'm interested to learn more!
@@cpolt1192 I'm in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and I've seen several Red Breasted but I'm wondering if the White Breasted would be found in this region too. 🤔
Love the babies, they open their mouths so wide.
Thank you, awesome vid
Fiesty little birds.. always bully chickadees at my feeders..but even tamer than them when I approach..
Thank you for another great video!
Fantastic video! Thank you.
Awesome video thanks for making!
Great video. I love your work.
Great video
Amazing little buggers 🤓

Their nest is in my tool room close to the door we all get along pretty good.
Precious !
Something I've always wondered is why my parents house has more white breasted nuthatches and why my house gets more red breasted nuthatches. We only live a few miles apart from each other.
The red ones like your house better
Just out of curiosity, did you notice anything seasonal about these differences? I've found that White-Breasted Nuthatches are more likely to show up around me or suet blocks during fall/winter, and tend not to give me the time of day during spring/summer. I didn't even see any Red-Breasted Nuthatches during the winter here (Southern Ontario), but now there's a pair that visits me daily, and now the WBNHs are scarce.
@@apocalypse487 😂
How much do there ranges overlap? Sounds like you happen to be along the boundary layer where their ranges must overlap in that case perhaps different habitat areas are better suited for one species of the other? If there are more deciduous trees near your parents and more coniferous trees where you live it could explain the difference
@@TheArbiter10 No, it's not seasonal. Red-breasted nuthatches hang out around my house all year long. I tend to see them more in the winter (as with all songbirds).
hello hope you guys are doing well i got my first Prothonotary Warbler today!! so exited lol awesome content thank you for the education 🙏🏽🙏🏽
I've only ever seen nuthatches in the flesh once, it was in my university running all over trees with utter disregard for gravity. I do hear nuthatches very often in my backyard, but I've yet to see one up close. I do see robins VERY often and the occasional northern cardinal. Too bad I've never had a chance to take a photo of a cardinal, my main birding lens is a 3-4 pound beast without autofocus, so it's not something I want to lug into the woods (it's a multicoated soviet Photosniper, if you're wondering.)
Sure hope I get to see them more often, they are devastatingly cute. Maybe I should make a bird feeder?
I love the songs of the red-breasted nut hatch as I hear them more than see them ,except at my feeder. We don't have the white-breasted variety here on the west coast but we do have the Brown Creepers. Creeper climb up, nuthatches climb down. I was wondering if you had creepers in your neck of the woods?
My favorite little creeper!!!
Thank you.
That was very cool. How do they know if all the babies are getting fed? Maybe there might be 1 baby that pushes them away
I LOVE nuthatches.
4:30
That's passion
Thanks a bunch
Leslie, how long did it take for those lovely birds to trust you in feeding them? Your videos are awesome 👌
LESLEY FOR PRESIDENT OF THE WORLD
I just got my first nuthatch on my suit feeder... very exciting :)
Suet....darn auto correct 😂
Great video!
another good one.
