Birds Make Me Happy Shirts - www.bonfire.com/happybirds/
Hi Leslie! LOVE your channel! I'm a 54F, legally blind my whole life since birth. I make do! I have several sets of binoculars and monoculars...plus the amazing camera on my iPhone. I have suddenly taken an interest in birds, because my BFF's father told me about the American Bald Eagles, Jackie and Shadow, who are LIVE, and they recently lost their last clutch due to the freezing temps in CA this year! I was hooked! And then so sad, when they abandoned the failed eggs... Onward, Upward, they said!
And so we go-- now I'm watching the birds in my own yard here in north FL. Cardinals, Blue Jays, Sparrows, Crows, and Chickadees are what I've identified so far. The jays are so funny hopping, and the crows are so smart! I had a pair of Cardinals in the tree right outside my bedroom window. After J&S lost their 2 eggs, these 2 cardinals laid and hatched their own! Three eggs!! I couldn't believe it. Right before my eyes!!!! OMG! And then they fledged and Leslie, now two months later, they are still here, visiting the food I put out! I can't believe it. My three cardinals are doing ok!! Mom and Dad too. :-)
And so now I watch, (the nerdy retiree who spends hours just birdwatching, hahaha), binoculars at every window, and I'm spending so much $$$ on food with bugs 'n berries, and feeders, and raw unshelled peanuts. Holy smokes. I'm learning SO much from you though!!! Please, can you do a video about the birds here in my area? Of the southeastern USA? You are so great! Oh, and I went to buy one of your Birds Make Me Happy shirts, but the women's sizes run two sizes too small. And I'm afraid I needed one size larger than what teespring offered. :-( I'm going to keep working on losing this weight though! Fifty one pounds gone so far! Thank you, Leslie!!
RIP Webster 😢
OMG--poor Webster....breaks my heart to see him like that. Beautiful camera work when they are sunning themselves......In my area Bald Eagles have made a big comeback....I was watching one today...majestic.....just ordered a bunch of peanuts for my birds. So sorry for your buddy Webster
Yes, it's so sad to see a loved animal decline at the end of its life.
My blue jays and watching you and your blue jays. What a wonderful family. Great camera work great sound effects thank you for your kindness and love of nature.
I see blue Jays every day.
The sounds they make I love.
When i go trout fishing I hear them all
The time. Nature music I love.
And many many other bird's to.
Some times I just site down and listen too the birds.and other animals.
Some time I listen more then I fish.
These videos are on the same level as National Geographic.
I agree 100%
I love how you make all your videos so fun, yet educational! I strongly adore every one and your videos help me identify many of my own area birds. Thank you for all you do!
RIP Webster... I wonder how Snowy's getting along.
Lesley you are simply amazing. You get incredible footage. You make the world a better place.
That's such a nice compliment, thank you :)
Rest in peace Webster. I love how the Bluejays team up and let the cat know it's not welcome.💙🖤💙🖤
Mockingbirds and grackles join the fight where I live.
Rest In Peace Webster ❤️
That was a beautiful video with magical music! The blue jay families are so cute. I'm sorry about Webster but like you said he lives on through his babies.
Thank you for giving us a beautiful nature watch❤️
What a beautiful story you documented of your precious blue jays. You have made me appreciate the sweeties that come to visit us daily even more. They are magnificent birds and I'm so sad about Webster. Thank you for taking us into your wilderness...it is a blessed reminder that life goes on in spite of the woes we are experiencing today. God is good.
I love blue jays. Growing up in Ohio, they were part of life. Dry years in California, then when we moved to Texas. One of the first things I heard was the jays. I knew Texas would be my new home now!
Oh my gosh this reminded me of my adopted blue jay family I was close to for a very special season about 8 years ago. I named them Barbara and Bradley and they would actually peck at my back door for me to feed them and a few times would just hover in sight to get my attention lol and at one point I would leave the door open and leave their food on the mat inside the door and without hesitation they both would hop down and in and have a snack and then leave lol , it was so heartwarming to me ! Then I watched their babes grow and then I never saw them again ! Thanks for this sweetness ☺️🐦
Perfect music for this video. I love your Jays. They seem to be doing very well. Thanks! Poor Webster....:(
Blue Jay true story here. They are as smart as they are beautiful. My 4 year old daughter found an injured baby Blue Jay in the neighbor’s basement window well, & brought it home. We put it in a shoe box with soft material, & noticed that it had an injured wing. We gave it water, & I can’t remember when we went to the Feed Store for advise & food to take care of the little guy. We didn’t think of calling a vet for a wild bird. At 6:00am, the morning after, squawking birds woke us up! It was the PARENTS of the baby BJ! Luckily, we had a rabbit hutch with a movable roof. And a bunny in it. Birds & rabbits are compatible. We made a perch for the hutch, put it in the same corner we slid open the roof, put the baby BJ on the perch, then walked in the house, & watched from the window. This went on for 2 whole weeks! The baby couldn’t fly with a busted wing; the parents (both of them together) eventually gave up feeding it, so we took over. I think we covered the hutch at night in the hot summer (can’t remember, it was around 45 years ago), but I do remember bringing the 2 critters into the attached garage at night, during the cold winter months. We made a tall branch for the bird to roost; with papers under it for droppings. Warm rugs for bunny. AND.... a litter box! We noticed the bunny went to the toilet away from it’s food, we were so surprised that it, indeed, was “toilet trained” in the garage, also. As the 2 critters grew & got older, they were a pleasure to take care of. We kept everything clean & safe for them. The BJ lasted 8 years; the bunny a little longer. My only advice is to have an old rabbit euthanized by a vet....our bunny had big black flies planting maggots in his body. I didn’t understand, I would give him baths in the tub to wash them away. My husband spent a night with bunny, & told me the the morning that bunny was screaming like he was dying an agonizing death. I cried. 💔 We love animals.
Complete lie
I've been bird watching most of the day. I have 6 Baltimore Oriole's coming too my feeder's amongst other birds. I'm having a great Mother's Day and hope you are too. TYFS the video.🥰
BTW, I cried for Webster. 💔😪
Rest in peace, Webster.
we are missing you.
Amazing video!!! The quality is so crisp, holy!!!! 🤩🥰🥰, that’s so sad about Webster though... RIP Webster
Another awesome video Lesley and I love the music - so appropriate. The Blue Jays are really very pretty birds and are great watch birds - as was shown when the cat appeared. I have neighbours cats that sit in my yard waiting to get a bird - if the Jays are around they let me know something is amiss. Thank you so much for sharing with us and teaching us about the various bird species. Take care, be well and stay safe.
Thanks for sharing Lesley!!! Enjoy it!! So sorry to hear that Webster pass away!
Thank you so much for your amazing video, especially on Mother's day and what made it a real treat was when my eldest son and I were standing in the back yard and a beautiful Blue Jay lands just a couple of feet away and grabs a shelled peanut and flies off onto the tree next to us and cracks it open. The Jay's we have here in town in Southern California are big, beautiful and healthy looking. Happy Mother's day and thank you! 💕💕💐💐🌺🌺
Thank you so much for these wonderful videos! I can't seem to stop watching them over and over. Blue Jays and Chickadees are my most favorite birds. Both are entertaining and delightful to watch. I so appreciate all your hard work.❤
My condolences for Webster. Some veterinarians can prescribe antibiotics and other medications that can be put in water or on food.
They are so beautiful. I just love Blue Jays! You are videos give me so much joy. Thank you!
My condolences, for Webster. Did you burie him?
Thank you for another great video.
Peace
I love the Blue Jays in our neighborhood. They are just beautiful birds big they come to my feeder which mostly chickadee, not hatches, down woodpeckers, redheaded, woodpeckers, juncos and many 3:51 other the Jays there, and they make their presence be known as they come in families, and they are bigger than most of the other birds.
Another beautiful bird video! Great photography and music. I really like the story that you told. I enjoyed it very much, thanks
I hear that alarm call every time my cat goes outside. Luckily, he's a bit lazy and can only catch the occasional mouse.
I think it's so amazing that we do understand other species "languages". The way birds use their voices is so different from our own, and yet so close. Alarm calls tell us so much about birds.
A baby crow fledged from a 75 ft elm, he belongs to the pair I’ve been working with for about seven years, I held on to him for the afternoon giving it water and some waterlogged dog kibble. I just let it go where I picked it up this morning, Mom and dad are not happy with me but I didn’t want the activity in the area to become aware of it. I hope it makes it, it will surly recognize me.
As always love your family of birds. Aloha Ms Lesley
What a fabulous video, Lesley! And perfect for Mother's Day. This video sure put a smile on my face & shows the beauty of the world around us & that our Creator knew what we people needed in our lives. Birds! Precious little gifts for us to enjoy every day! Thanks for this lovely, special video! ♥
So sorry about Webster 😪
Maybe it was something poisonous he ate. Will miss him.
At 4:15 - I love it when they spread their wings and "sun".
Thanks Lesley - Stephanie
Had a pet blue jay when I was young. We found her in the back yard when she was very young. Her parents were no where around all day long. So we took her in and she lived with us for the next 11 years. I never thought that birds were very smart, but Trouble changed that! She was very curious and remembered people. She would cheep like a baby bird for only two people- my mother and my grandpa.(who she only saw once a month or so) She liked to play and she had favorite places to hide food. (The pleats of the drapes was one place. Mom wasn't too happy to find grasshoppers that I caught for Trouble when she cleaned the drapes!) If you cheeped like a baby bird while she was feeding, she would share her food by putting whatever she had in your mouth- peanuts not too bad, grasshoppers not too good. She was always fun and entertaining, and when she passed when I was 19, I was devastated. Never forget you Trouble!
I’ve come to paying attention when birds (also squirrels and chipmunks) give an alert. Something is going on. Just now a crow was alerting and when I looked out, there was a beautiful red fox on my lawn.
I am just amazed that she finds the perfect music for each of her videos. Such dedication. I'm just another observer in The Bird Herd.
Lesley , I was noticing my Jays are working overtime , I totally relate to your beautiful and entertaining video....the timing was perfect. I feel for my Jays, their day is full. Thanks my friend as always I enjoyed your efforts !! 🐦 😃
I live in a condominium in Houston Texas and I have been feeding the wild birds on my little back yard and recently I have notice cardinals and Blue Jays coming to my backyard they are so beautiful! If you could recommend a good quality food to feed them specially when winter comes around and is hard for them to find food I will really appreciate it!!
My cardinals love the black oil sunflower seeds & safflower seeds! Blue Jays like them, too. I'm in Texas as well. :)
@@lnghrnfn thank you so much!🤗

His music is great!
Alright, so I recorded this weird bird singing from my yard. I have no idea what it is? I've first started hearing it last summer. Can you help me? ua-cam.com/video/jepDo7DVqig/v-deo.html
dear LesletheBirdNerd I have a burning question for you please reply to this message so I will know that you are eager to reply
Thanks hun outstanding work love your channel
This made me cry and I'm not sure why. I think I'm envious.
Bluejay in Ojibwe is said...DiinDesii
Wonderful Lesley - Thank you for sharing. Sorry to hear about Webster, not many Jays can say they made it famous as a film star. He'll be watched by many birder to come. Well as far as my Jay goes he came and spent several minutes at the peanut pile. He looked at me a couple of times but I didn't seem to bother him more than getting a full load of peanuts. He later visited the bird bath for a drink. It's too funny, I go out about three to rinse it out and put in fresh water. The last couple of days my buddy the local Mocking Bird waits for the fresh water and within two or three minutes she is in the middle of it taking a bath. Next in line was a little male Blue Bird. So I have a male Cardinal comes to the platform feeder when I'm sitting on the deck, and seem pretty friendly. Well today he thought he would come in closer landing on the post a couple of feet from my head and immediately starting to sing. I'm afraid I jumped not knowing he was there. I'm sure I scared him as much as he scared me. Oh well, hope he gets over it and learns I'm not a bad guy. So cheers Lesley - and thank you so much for the videos.
Amazing footage once again! That's quite fascinating to see how they operates. I remember i was pretty amazed the first time i've seen them taking a sunbath, just like us humans, they would lay on one side then the other, very cool. Thanks for your work, i love your channel.✌🐦
I have about a dozen or so that eat the peanuts I give to them and the squirrels. They're very shy, until they started just sitting on my deck and staring at me for more peanuts, that and now the squirrels on the deck are now begging by the window, they now pet my wife's hands while they take food from her. Even the Canadian wildlife is super chill here lol.
I’ve been so obsessed with birds since I came across your channel. I’m officially a bird nerd
:) Awesome
great video (◔‿◔)
me too ☺️ I'm 🤓 bird nerd
I just adore all your videos poor Webster 😢🙏♥️
Thank you! My blue jays look different --- scrub jay? on the Oregon coast. They are a delight!
In Oregon we have Scrub Jays and Steller's Jays, which are both blue jays, but not "blue jays"
The music adds a great deal to this video.
100%.
Much appreciated Steve! It's a pleasure to work with such fine footage and narration. Thanks for listening!
Absolutely gorgeous footage.Im so amazed.They really trust you,how lovely.Thankyou Lesley.Made my nite.😊💙⚘
Blue Jays are rare in my part of Georgia. Cardinals seem to chase them away. Wish there were more!
I truly love and enjoy your videos.
Thank you so much for sharing.
Blue Jays are my favorite.
Thanks for your great videos. I have 8-10 regulars (Jays) at my backyard feeders and your informative productions have enabled me to understand them so much more. Feeding time ( with peanuts) is the best time of the morning as I sit on the patio and watch the competition between the Jays, squirrels and Grackles.
I can watch birds all day. I absolutely love them and I feed all kinds all year round here in Colorado 💕
Love your videos! 😊
Those poor flying ants. Poor Webster. Well, that one cheered ME right up.(sarc)
While I was walking in our Cedar grove the other day I spotted owl because the stellar's jays were mobbing it. Stellar's jays are the west coast version of a blue jay. They are larger and more of a deep purple. They may have been joined by robins mobbing the owls. Mixed flocks will take the advantage to chase a preditor out of the area.
Stellar's jays are awesome!
Poor little Webster. But he was a good dad
We lived on a lake in eastern Washington County Maine. We had several fairly large feeders on a long line between two large pines. A pesky group of blue jays would come and clean us out in a couple of days. They would stay at the feeders and fill their pouches to bursting and fly off. Soon they would be back for another round. They are pretty, but expensive to have around. We now live in midcoast Maine. We only see blue jays once a week or so and they don't monopolize the feeders. We do enjoy their calls and actions.
Beautiful high quality video, cam, & content 😍👍. Each so unique, such pretty blue hues. Youre a Pro filmer, Lesley. Thx. Rip Webster 🙏 😉🐦🇨🇦
We rarely see blue jays in Missouri so I've never really seen a blue jay nest or family, i only see individuals
We're on the road to 100k subs!
Amazing birds and even more amazing footage!!!! Thanks Nerd 👍😃✌️you rock!!!
Fantastic film. Great to see them drinking and enjoying the water and then sunbathing. With their beaks open they appear to be drinking in the sun.
How can you tell them all apart? You must have a sharp eye. I’ve been putting out seed and freeze dried larva for the birds, and had four blue jays appear at one time, that was the most I’d ever seen at once. I hope hey have babies.
So sorry about Webster 😢
Those birds are very lucky to have you as a friend. Keep doing you... It's working
Excellent video! Very sorry about the loss of Webster. He will live on, in your tremendous video library, his offspring, and the hearts of those whom you've shared him with.
Thank you so much!
The music was beautiful
We have a lot of blue jays in our backyard. Truly enjoy all your excellent videos!
Love this video! Watching the birds play and scamper about was truly entertaining and the orchestra music was the perfect touch. Thank you for yet another fun and educational video.
I found a fledgling jay on the ground today - the parents were keeping a watchful eye - along with another pair of adults! I had to pick him up and place him on a branch because there were hawks and a cat lurking. He still could not fly more than 2 or three feet off the ground, but soon enough the four adults corralled him to a safe spot. He was such a cutie, and the adults seemed to know I was trying to help because normally they would dive-bomb anything that presents a danger - but they just watched me. I hope I hear him calling for breakfast tomorrow! I think he fell from the nest due to these two mischievous squirrels. The parents were chasing the juvenile squirrel i named "crazy" (because he acts crazy) and his squirrel sister - all morning right where the baby jay landed. They were kind of tormenting the baby Jay till I walked up. They were stealing the peanuts I put out for the jays - but the jays now know to tell me they are waiting for peanuts, so they now come get the peanuts before the squirrels figure out where I put them! Jays are just so amazing! Squirrels, not so much.
❤❤
ikr so annoying 🙄
Yes.. the perfect video for some morning coffee..thanks as always.. best videos!
This is literally the best channel on UA-cam
That is super kind of you to say :)
Happy mums (bird day) from those who would not be here if not for you😊🐿🐣🐦🐇🐦🌱🌻⚘⚘⚘
I feed the birds and squirrels in the city. I don't get a lot of different birds but a lot of Jays. The Robins come running when I put out food but the Blue Jays are usually the first. Fridays is pizza day at my house so the birds get the leftovers. 2 weeks ago a purple grackle came down and chose a piece of the crust, took it to the water dish and dropped it in. He waited a few seconds then too out the soaked crust and ate it. Today it was really something as he dropped 7 pieces of crust into the water one at a time and then ate them Of course the camera is in the house.
What a lovely video! It has such good quality, I'm really impressed. Well done!
Thank you. I have enjoyed your video very much. The high def video mades seeing the jays colors and feathers striking! I love learning about their behaviors.
I wonder if Blue Jays appear blue to each other, and other birds, or if they look more purple, like at the very end of this lovely video you made, Leslie the Bird Nerd? Since birds can see colors we can't, on the ultraviolet end of the spectrum, maybe they see that pretty blue in an even more beautiful purple? Perhaps they only appear blue to us humans?
This lady is the David Attenborough of Canadian blue jays.
Meanwhile, in the southern US blue jays live a different life. You'd think it would be easier with shorter and warmer winters, but no. Blue jays form larger groups, but they have more enemies. Great-tailed grackles mob blue jays and take all the best nest sites in the city.
OTOH, local blue jays are able to mimic hawk calls and drive other birds away from food sources.
You have amazing content! Thank you so much for what you do.
Love that Webster. You must miss him. I always enjoy your videos.
Did the jays have any special ceremony for Webster? I've seen videos of numerous types of Corvids have ceremonies for a deceased one of their same type.
ive discovered your channel recently, and absolutely love it! ive been birding as long as i can remember, but this year i was finally able to get a camera of my own. its not high quality as your, but being able to take millions of pictures of the sparrows that ive been growing up it is so fun! also me and my family go camping to wisconinevery year and its your videos that allowed me to know that the songs i hear are the blue jays! cant wait to snap some pictures of them next time i go!
Please make Series out of the Birds living everyday life . Ps love 💘 the cgannel
Lesley, how do you tell the birds apart? What makes them distinctive enough to do so? I watch the jays around me and occasionally I will see one that has a distinctive characteristic, but otherwise it's very difficult to tell them apart. Is it just a matter of watching them more, or do you have "tips" to tell them apart? Thank you for your wonderful videos -- I have learned SO much from them about my favorite animals.
I had a baby Jay named "Marvv" he survived 5 months with me and was the only thing that was jealous of me...loved it. I miss him.
Oh man what a great video again all of them are great
Poor Webster. -- Fascinating mini-story -- thank you!
Thank you a bunch, Lynn
poor Webster 😔🥺
I put up a window feeder to enjoy a family of Jays from afar. I'm hoping the red cardinals stop being shy and eat from it too
Excellent video....so sorry about Webster
Outstanding videos. You are amazing, Lesley. I believe you have succeeded in giving me new eyes and ears to observe the avian friends around me. Thank you!
What a lovely Webster🌹
Awesome camera work!
Leslie, thanks for one of your best videos ever. I love them all but this was super special ❤️! I loved that we got to see Webster again, I miss him and am still so sad about him being gone. I'm very sentimental, lol. Aren't baby Jays just the most darling things on earth? Could I buy a photo or two of Webster? I have many of your great photos but none of him. One with Snowy would be great too. I love Hermoso too and only have the one photo of him looking straight at the camera, so if you can find some others I would be grateful.
Hi Lisa, so sorry for the delay. I've been swamped and am just now getting a chance to read the comments. I'm so glad you enjoyed this video as much you did. :) Webster was a sweetie, I tear up too. Little guy, hard not to. Baby Jays are the sweetest for sure, I love those little darlings. About your request for a photo of Webster and Snowy.the ones that do my printing for me are closed down now, due to the COVID Virus. So sorry about that
I can't figure out how can tell them apart as I watch all the birds around me even the pigeons are difficut I guess you have a GOD given talent there and TY for this vid Bless you~RIP Webster~
Amazing job in gathering and editing the footage!
Thank you so much
@@LesleytheBirdNerd yeah so great ☺️
That was sad about Webster, but the video was cool. Thank you
Beautiful 👍
with the death of a blue jay I thought I was watching a Disney show. Oh well still love the effort and work you put in
How in the world can you tell them all apart. It's crazy. Great video. I enjoy all of your videos.🐦🌼🌈
Love your videos ceep it up!
Great work Lesley, thank you👍🐦🕊️
Thanks bunch, Eric :)
