Im a mini painter, and i love boardgames too, and i love the wolfenstein universe. Me and my friends play games like 40k, battletech, ma sions of madness, and dune, but sometimes you want something thats just streamlined, fun, and has a good theme. My friend and i enjoyed bursting out of a trap door and slaughtering everyone in the room together, and the minis look incredible when painted well. I know some people find it a bit lacking bit for a relaxing sesh where you just want to throw a few dice and kill stuff with a friend its perfect. Il have all the minis on display together when my jobby rooms finished.
I passed on this when it was on Kickstarter but bought the assembled version, complete (minus the 3D terrain), still wrapped, off Ebay last week. I pretty much agree with what you said. It is an easy game to get to the table and isn't complicated to learn. So far I haven't seen much point to the hazard tracker or the noise element. It is just something that happens. Love the player boards, the equipment and the ammunition and having individual cards for the enemies make tracking them easy, even if playing solo. The choice of heroes, with individual abilities should add to the games replayability (restricted to just 6 in the retail version). I am not keen on Archon's colour choice but will be painting it all anyway. I believe that there is a random dungeon creator in the stretch goals, which will improve the game for me as I get more experience in playing it. It is a fun game and I am glad that I bought it. I also have Reichbusters. Takes an age to get to the table but does have more to it than Wolfenstein because of the card play. Noise creates more problems in that if the alarm goes off you will be overrun with enemies. Has some mechanisms that don't appear to work that well i.e. Vril powered weapons are rarely worth the effort and I tend not to bother with them. However, I would still give Reichbusters the edge over Wolfenstein although ease of play might swing this in the future?
I am surprised it got 3.5 with no exploration and no sense of player agency. This pretty much means that the name Wolfenstein is the only thing carrying it.
This score is strange, but even more strange is the fact that there were many complaints about the lack of dice rolls mitigation and if I'm not having a mistake - He said nothing about it.
Very thoughtful review. I actually quite like the game. Especially as a pick a mission and play dungeon crawler. It doesn't innovate but it does what it does well. I also like the Ip and aesthic so that's a plus for me as well.
Reichbusters is fun and definitely has a sense of agency. The rules were initially a bit of a mess, though they have been improved since. In particular, the noise mechanic needed a bit of house ruling imho. There's allegedly a season 2 coming out for Reichbusters, so they'll hopefully offer a second printing of the original game at the same time.
@@Laserbeak219 I waited till the errata arrived before trying it and, well, there's no polite way to say it but the rulebook is horrifically bad even after being errated. After muddling my way through a single turn I gave up and sold it. I asked some other people if I was missing something and was told that you basically need to spend your early game canping and getting cards so you can use a chain combo to clear a room. It was an entirely shitty experience. Great minis tho, better than Wolfenstein even tho they're not HIPS IMHO
No sense of exploration and adventure and no real sense of agency are major indictments of the game’s mechanisms. I love the I.P., but sadly it sounds like a pass.
It's a pretty fun game IMHO, not the best game ever but decent. I don't think the lack of exploration aspects is as big a deal as Alex is making it out to be, it's just not that kind of crawler. Rather, it's a game with a tight timer so knowing the enemy placements and reinforcements up front is actually helpful as it makes it easier to plan. I think Alex undersells the stealth and agency a little but I also realise people will take what they want to from a review. If it was a bad game it certainly wouldn't get a 3.5 / 5

Yep, both have their merits. I think I like reichbusters more but Wolfenstein would get tabled more.

The power/danger of out-of-context sound bites: “agency increases as you kill people.”
Nice review, I just got JotL, so I’ll wait. :)
Lol fair
I think a vs video will be interesting Wolfenstein, Reich and Zombicide.
Anyway man highly super appreciate your review, keep rocking!!!!
Thank you!
Thanks for the content! May check it out when I work through the dungeon crawlers I have.
Enjoy :)
I still need to assemble my minis. Got about 1/3 of the base box built but I need to pick up some hobby blades
Good luck!
This vs Reich busters.... which would you prefer?
Wolfenstein is easily more fun.
@@AdamJorgensen agree although with an hypothetical second release of Reich Buster if they streamline the game maybe can be better...maybe 🤔
@@patriziopastore9895 I feel like they would basically have to completely remake the game for that to happen. RB is such a mess of a game...
@@AdamJorgensen i recall me and my group did some house rules and we enjoy it... But i agree the game was released in a total chaos with the rulebooks
hello sir, do you think it is 28mm miniatures ? thank you
I'm not sure sorry :(

The very first video from this channel that I saw was about Reich Busters. I wonder if you like this one better ;)
Looks like I need to find out what Reich busters is. Time for another video.

Reichbusters is...not great
@@AdamJorgensen that's a shame until I know I can get it tabled it's back to shooting Nazis in video games.

Ty for the video!
I'm pretty sure the noise system can be used lure enemies, but you need to be careful about how you do it

@@AdamJorgensen Thanks, Adam. I appreciate your sharing your own experiences with this game!
I don’t like board games based on movies or video games. Same as I dislike video games based on movies or books.
A completely underwhelming gaming experience, another Kickstarter on the sale pile. A missed opportunity 😢
Totally get that
Wolfenstein gra planszowa
Your jokeing mate Wolfenstein the board no way 😂
The board is ugly, too
