Question msi had a 1440p 500hz ips panel at ces any idea who made that I've never come across that on any road map.
I’m still trying to find that info out to confirm. It’s not on AUO or LG displays roadmaps, I can tell you that much!

The lack of new miniled panels is unfortunate as they strike a great balance between productivity and gaming. My 85" X95K has aged like fine wine and Sony is rocking the algorithm in ways I didn't think was possible with current gen minileds.

For coders, I think 27" is the near the sweet spot. I've been on 27" 1440P monitors for a few years and it's definitely the best so far, but I'd love to see even sharper text. Unfortunately, 32" is just too big IMHO and the required head movement a bit much unless I push the screen toward the back of my desk (although that might worse my near-sight vision). TBH, I think a 24", set a bit closer, might be even better for coding. Anyway, I've tried them all--from 13" up to 38" widescreen--over the years (from the 1980's until now), so that's my take. I also want a 120Hz+ refresh rates for the smooth text scrolling and occasional gaming. I'm still waiting for that perfect monitor...
very interesting, although i fail to see how auo wants to compete with oled and qd oled... unless they are very cheap.
Different use cases though really. OLED is great for gaming and multimedia, but LCD panels still have their place for many other use cases. Perhaps a topic for another day :)

Still rocking my PG27UQ. Not for lack of funds, just haven’t seen anything worthy of replacing it. I’ve tried a couple OLED TVs, and the PG32UQX. Either too dim or too much halo. I’m hoping the new 32” 4K OLEDs will be the ones.
Simon! I just read an article on the Korean version of the The elec's website which talks about the 160PPI QD Oled monitor prototype. They cite DSCC as a source for this panel making it to consumers next year. I know on your roadmap you placed LG Display's panel with this spec as Q4 2025. Considering Samsung Display had a working prototype at CES this year this could mean a high refresh rate 27" 4k oled panel could come sooner than anticipated. Also DSCC are quite accurate with their predictions snd timelines.
We have a bit of more recent info on that 27” 4K panel actually. It’s not officially announced yet and there’s no firm timeline from Samsung Display, but it’s likely to be produced during 2025 we are told. Could therefore end up being a bit earlier than LG’s WOLED version

For a hybrid of gaming and office work are the qd oled 360hz panels suitable or is it best waiting for a high end ips display? due to the text fringing and clarity?
The text fringing is less of an issue on the gen 2/gen 3 QD-OLED panels that it was in gen 1, although it's not fully fixed. It's very good now though overall. I think the risk there would be around potential image retention if you're using it for lots of static work, although if your usage is varied, and you are also reasonably careful about how you use it, i don't think that needs to be a major concern. A tricky one as every use case is different
I love my Sony OLED TV… but don’t want the stress of potential burn in on my monitor if it sits with Photoshop all day. Plus, sharp text is an absolute necessity. So something like the new Dell UltraSharp IPS screens look like a better option.

No not specifically at this stage. We have news on LG and Samsung OLED panels in our other videos though
I wonder why they don’t seem interested in 4k ultrawides like the Neo G9 57 but in smaller sizes.
@tftcentral do you know if the price of 8K monitors will decrease with mass production?
The more panels get produced and from different vendors, the more it will drive competitive pricing. I’d expect them to still remain in the expensive, professional niche for a while though
I just want 3840x1600 120hz on non - Nano IPS. This resolution is king for mixed usage. Sadly there is only one panel from LG on the market and it sucks in dark scenes due to low contrast and terrible ips glow.
I really hope that this isn't yet another 8K monitor promise that fades away without anything of substance. The Dell UP3218K desperately needs modernization or another manufacturer needs to bring one to market. A 32" 8K panel running as 4K Retina would be absolutely gorgeous.

It’s their equivalent and at the moment the contrast ratio spec of 2000:1 is the same. We’ve not had chance to see an AUO Black panel in practice ourselves yet though sadly
Hi Simon! Nice content! 🙂👍So, If I'm looking for a LCD monitor with a high static contrast ratio of at least(but more the better) 3500:1 achievable at 120nits. And I don't want issues with black smearing, so the pixel response should be fast and the panel must not curve more than a 1500R rating?? 🤔
Ideally, I'm looking for one that is about the 30 - 32 inch size and either is curved approximately at a 1800R rating or just be flat. And has a 1440p resolution, as it will be used for gaming, as well as allround office use.
What would be your favorite models to mention at this point? 🤔😉 Only released models or models expected to release in 2024(unless you know of a really exciting model coming beginning next year....feel free to share that one as well 😉)!
Hi Daniel. That’s a tricky one. For that kind of contrast ratio you’d be looking at a VA panel but then the only models I can think of that would be black smearing free would be the Odyssey models from Samsung like their 27” and 32” G7. But those are more curved than you wanted (1000R). Can’t think of any others than for the bill, unless you maybe look at OLED screens instead?

@@tftcentral Ahh, missed that one Simon(my impression over last couple months, was that all exciting news was only in the OLED monitors space...so I guess I haven't paid enough attention to LCD releases lately! 😊).
Thanks for pointing out that model Simon. That one could indeed, look like to be the contender for best allround use "placeholder", until OLED gets its weakness with burn-in down to same level as LCD panels.
Found some early user reports of VRR blinking with using that AOC monitor. Anything you noticed in your review sample? 🤔🙂

@danieljrgensen133 didn’t notice anything during our usage but then every game and system can be different so hard to say one way or the other. Don’t believe its user updatable Fw, AOC don’t normally offer that
@@tftcentral Are you aware if quality went up or down, after Samsung changed from using their own in-house VA panels to using CSOT(if I remember correctly) for their Odessy G7 monitor series?
I did try out the 32" Odessy G7 years back, but it had very visible scan lines, the before mentioned deep panel curve I didn't find practical...and to top it, a poor contrast which I measured to be a bit under 1500:1(using an i1Display Pro color meter).
So, was not impressed at that time....but perhaps panel variations has improved since? 🤔🙂
Do MiniLED help for non-HDR? I'd say most of my games don't have HDR as I play a lot of niche and older games with only some AA
If the screen allows you to turn it on in SDR mode (as many do) then yes, it can really help improve contrast and black depths for those kind of games too!

The specs do match, but LG Display have an IPS black panel with the same specs (video coming on those soon), and so given Dell have used other LG Display IPS black panels on other models, and they brand that model as IPS Black, I am pretty sure it’s one of theirs and not AUO’s. Can’t be 100% certain but looks probable

Thank you for the report. For me the 240Hz 4k panel is most interesting. Nice to see there will be IPS and VA version. This will probably be great for my 5 year update interval and just in time to upgrade.
Also, by the looks, we could have 1kHz panels in 5 years. That would be insane and probably the limit of human perception, although, maybe we will be able to develop faster senses, when we use such fast panels :)
1000Hz is what Blur Busters consider “retina refresh rates”. I think we’ll get there first from OLED for sure. Getting response times on LCD panels down to allow them to keep up will be challenging. OLED is already there 😀

@@tftcentral No that's not true. Blurbusters doesn't consider 1000Hz to be anywhere close retina refresh rate. That would be at several tens of thousands Hz.

@@hastesoldat It depends on the movement speed of the object. If a stationary image is displayed 1Hz would suffice.
A great experiment to check your "refresh rate" is to strobe a LED and then move it. The faster you move or the lower the blinking rate the more likely you will see it blinking.
Does 8K actually make any sense on a 32" display? I thought 4K at that size was already fairly close to the limit of the human eye's resolution at a desk viewing distance, and thus 8K would be way beyond that. I'd rather expect it on large or VR displays
It totally does, though I, personally, dream of somewhat bigger size monitors, around 40 inch 8k (16:9 or 16:10), with multi-mode resolution/refresh rates.
You can often get within 20-30 cm close-up distance from your monitor when trying to look at details, even at 32-40 inch diagonal screens, so you can easily tell the difference between 4K and 8K if you pay attention.
8K will definitely be in mainstream monitors one day, as it's an amazing resolution (in 16:9 or in 16:10) because it scales integerly many of the well-established lower resolutions: 4K UHD, 1440p, 1080p and even 720p.
8K has fantastic versatile potential in computer monitors especially, and it makes sense on 32 inch and bigger size. I suspect some people will ask for it in even smaller sizes than 32 inch, but at 32" and bigger it's going to be a must in a few years.
Absolutely, especially on macOS. I do SW dev on 2x 4K 27" panels with no scaling and fairly small text and it's definitely noticeable. Being able to run an 8K w/ true 2x integer scaling would give me the same real estate (effectively 4K) but MUCH clearer. It's something I personally have been waiting for a long time.

Something just crossed my mind : how, why and who decides what amount of curve on a monitor panel?
I asked this because I wouldn't want to buy the recently announced LG OLED ultrawide monitors and their siblings from other brands that have an 800R curve on their 34 inches monitors.
The curve is dictated by the panel manufacturer, although in the case of oled panels they are flexible and so display OEMs can decide if they want to create flexible displays, or potentially change the curve I believe

Well that's not an answer I was hoping 😂 more precisely why did LG choose to give all their ultrawide OLED panel 800R curve so far? Couldn't monitor sellers opt to have a shallower curve? Because so far all of them have the same curve, if this continues in the future with the higher pixel count ones and subsequent generations then I'd never get them especially given that Samsung OLED gives me what I want... (Already using the G8 one atm)

I sincerely don't like the fact that OLEDs are not meant for PC use. I work with the PC and I game on it. LCDs are the best ones for me because burn in is always a problem with a monitor that is used for work 8 hours a day. I really hope that miniLEDs will continue to improve because OLEDs are not ready for my job. For now my Acer X32FP is serving me well...
If they're not pushing 1440p 500hz+ why bother going with this over the OLED 1440P 480HZ?

can we get a damn 24.5 inch 1440p 240hz or 4k 240hz. you could have an amazing 4k image, and if u dont have a 4090, you could use integer scaling and have a perfect 1080p image for gaming

Pretty big deal, really. Most people have enough to worry about in life without having to baby their electronics at the same time.
A fairly sweeping statement :) What about for text and office work? or high pixel density CAD/CAM or professional applications? or for HDR content creation and consumption where you need higher brightness capabilities? or for competitive and eSports gaming where you need higher refresh rates/frame rates?....you get my point :)
(but i agree OLED is awesome, just not for every use case)
@@tftcentral Yep different horses for different courses, there is no perfect panel type for every application. That's why so many types exist, and will always be there at least for the foreseeable future.
@@tftcentral OLEDs have 2 Huge problem one is Burn in and another one is cost OLED is better for competitive gaming because of it's response time and new Asus OLED monitors have BFI so motion clarity will be also far superior to LCD. I would buy a mini led monitor if it has true 1ms response time, clear motion clarity, 4k or 1440p resolution and 360hz or high refresh rate.
Do MiniLED backlighting help with SDR or just HDR? I'm certain 80% of what I pay won't have HDR
