A good thing to carry is a bottle of Propolis (carp care) in your bag mate. Open wounds clear up in no time. Nice Zed too Andy well done mate.

Great video as usual. Still think Dutch laws are weird. You are not allowed to use live bait, but you are allowed to catch a fish, kill it and put it on the line.....

its incase people move the livebaits from different waters and possibly spread disease, surley a dead fish could still do that so yeah a bit weird

@@TheoYianniFishing does make 'some' sense but like you said a dead fish can as well. Then again i dont fish with dead baits often enough to find it too bothersome.

Have you tried using the Korum Quickstops instead of a hair stop, I find them much easier and zero chance of them falling off 👍🏻

Just recently started zander fishing with live baits. Over +/- 10 sessions these are my observations.
Started with ledger, but had little success. The bites were there (around 10), but they were just small nibbles, no confident takes. In this way managed to hook only one zander. Used bleak as a bait, 30-50 g sliding weight and 40-60 cm 0.26 mm fluorocarbon leader at the end with a BKK treble hook. This was over 4 sessions.
Then decided to try float fishing. The difference was noticeable - takes were confident. Usually a small nibble at first and the float went underwater and stayed there. My observation was that you should give zander time to take the bait - if I stroke in the first 10-20 seconds, all were misses. If I give them more time and just observe the line - as soon I saw zander taking the line (I assume he was done grabbing the bait and was ready to move on), did a proper strike.
My thought is that the zander does not feel the 6 g float, so it takes the bait with confidence, but with a ledger as soon as he feels the bend of the rod, it gets suspicious and spits out the bait.
This is in an urban area with a lot of small zander (30-45 cm) that come form the Baltic sea during late summer/early autumn. So far with a float my success rate went up to around 70%. The biggest 52 cm. Not a biggie, but still I enjoy those 3-4 hour sessions in the late evenings near my home.

Could this also work with a bobbin or a drop back indicator when fishing lakes or still waters?

I have 3 years in zander fishing, and all I have to say: you're giving good tips, definietely can catch zander with these techniques and gear. I do two things differently - using mono line (0.28 in diameter, we have big catfish here), and using a classic circlet bite indicator. I'm using carp rods just like you, longer spinning rods are good too, as long as they're fast action rods.
