- Welcome back to another video!
With the pike spawning, I have been spending more time locating zander on my local canal. Today I'm going to show you how easy it can be to catch canal zander! These fish are becoming more elusive with the introduction of electrofishing so I recommend that everyone should try to catch zander while they have the chance!

Roach is my goto bait, but have caught a fair share on Smelt and know people have caught on sardines as well
Yeah same here! I'm definitely going to try a few other after what people have been saying, I've also heard that big Zander are prone to sardines!
Zander love sea baits mate 💯
Great clip thanks for making, thanks for sharing, and thanks for your tips.
No problem thanks for watching!
Great video, ive just joined a club that has zander in some of its waters. Im more of a lure fisherman myself but famcy trying some deadbaiting, what rods are you using? I don't want to use a 3lb TC carp rod for deabaiting and kill the fight.
Hey, thank you! Yeah I would definitely recommend a bit of deadbaiting! These are 2.75 carp rods here not ideal, if you have something around the 2lb mark that should be alot better!
Awesome Vlog bud great tips really entertaining 😁🎣👍🏻
Thank you! Appreciate this a lot! 👍
Like you said it gets electro fished a lot, which really messes with my head and confidence down there, i was told its being electro fished again in January, and the last thing i want to do is pay a day ticket to a club that wants to get rid of the fish i want to catch, lovely 1st fish, and i have hD lots of Zander on smelt chunks
There's definitely plenty of Zander in that stretch not loads but some nice ones! I've also been told that when they electro fish a stretch they put the big ones back in to eat the small ones! That's interesting I'll have to give the smelt a go! I've always been advised against sea baits for Zander and I've never really done much on them 👍
hi Dan thanks for another quality upload and sharing does this set up work on more coloured water i guess they still smell the bait my narrowboat is on the grand union canal and its much more coloured than where you are cheers buddy tight lines.
Hey mate! Yes it will 100% work, the more colored the water the better for Zander they'll have no problem finding any baits, you'll find you'll struggle a lot more when the water is clear especially in the day time when it's bright 👍
@@DanGoesFishing morning Dan thanks for the reply I will let you know how I get on 🤞🤞
Well done mate, great video 👍 Where about you fishing?
Thank you! It's on the Grand Union Canal 👍 sorry I don't give away exact locations but I fish it all over from Knowle down
@@DanGoesFishing great, thank you!
You’re rigs and tactics are great. However sea baits do work, zander love a smelt either a whole one or cut in half, my preference is whole as I’m after larger ones and it stays on the hook well, with this I’ll use double size 6 or 8 trebles. Mackerel is also a great zander bait, I like fishing a whole tail on double trebles or small 1.5 inch sections on single hooks. My pb of 9lb 2oz was on a smelt, my mates pb of 6lb 7oz came on a mackerel tail
Thank you! And yes this is somthing i've learned since uplading this, its strange up untill this point all the information I had ever gotten was that zander dont like sea baits but im definatly going to give them a try soon as people do seem to catch well on them!
@@DanGoesFishing yea mate definitely they work really well
This is a load of BS 😂sea baits are awful for Zander; smelt is the best of bunch but they are nowhere near as effective as coarse baits, they will take them on occasion but there’s never a reason to not just use a superior coarse bait
can i use a sardine?
thanks for that advice , i have been trying to get my first ever zander , have been told that drop shoti rigs gets alot by my lfs but i havent had anything yet in 2 months of trying , get loads of perch and jack pikke , iam in nothampton , could you possibly recommend a place to go to get a zander ,or if any of your followers could suggest some were on the grand union in northapton , i have tried stoke bruen and braunston but no luck with jigs , gonna try some dead baits now i have seen your video
I've done little to no fishing over your way sorry I can't be more help, what I will say though is as much as I love lure fishing I catch so many more Zander on deadbaits they just seem to love them! If there's Zander in the area you'll get a them on deadbaits 👍 I have had a quick Google and Whilton Locks seems to be a good starting area by you hope this helps 👍
@@DanGoesFishing thankyou chap . Hopefully I might see u on the bank some time and I will grasp some pointers off u if that ok .
@@andyrichards3349 of course! Thanks for the support!
yes i got my first zander , not massive 3lb 2oz , caught on a minnow crank bait , was a epic fish , i now cant wait till the next one
@@andyrichards3349 amazing 🙌 well done
Good job 👌💪🤩 Greetings From Poland ✋👊
Thank you!
great video mate good tips thank you
Thank you!
Great video mate, subbed 👍🏻
Thank you! Appreciate it!
I fish the grand union the arm that goes to market harborough loads of fish there.i have fished the canal near wigston to kilby bridge
It's honestly such a good canal if you have the time to find the fish, never fished there I'll have to give it a go 👍
Zander do like seafish, i catch huge zanders while static deadbaiting for pike.
Definitely something I need to try more then! I've just had little success on seabaits in the past
Alright mate quite a old vid now but how’s the fishing there now any idea have to reduced the number of Zander in that stretch?
Hey mate, so I know they've electro fished this stretch a few times since I filmed this, but I also know people still catch here they never come close to getting time all so it's always worth trying 🤞
Great vid Dan, I'm from the Midlands and yet to get my first Z, any pointers on where to get em from
Thank you! I fish on the Grand Union Canal a lot basically the further south you go the more Zander you will find! They are also all throughout the rivers such as the Avon! They can be tricky to find but well worth it hope this helps 👍
@@DanGoesFishing thanks bud I'd heard there in the GU canal and hope to give it a crack soon, there are some in the Trent and Mersey canal which is around the areas I normally fish so I'm going to try around there first if no good try the GU.
@@adriancartwright3294 good to hear it! Best of luck! 🎣
@@adriancartwright3294 did you find any on the Trent and Mersey?
I’ve video man, liked and subscribed! Always wanted to catch a zander but there aren’t any in the canals near me. If you fancied taking me out one day after a few I’d be happy to make a video with you, might help your channel!
*Nice
Thank you appreciate that! 🙌 Yeah definitely try to catch one if you ever get the chance, yeah that could be good! Definitely start looking into that sort of thing soon! 🙌
Cracking video. Thanks 🙏
Thank you! ☺️
Why would they try to get rid of the Zander? Awesome fish.
They are amazing, but they're not native to the UK so officially they shouldn't be here. But they're so well established now they won't be going anywhere 🙌
The Zander also isn't native to the Netherlands but it represents an great economic value. It's a popular fish to eat and one of the most popular sporting fish overhere. It also does not really have an negative influence on the eco system. In some of the lakes it's disappearing because of he water quality getting to good. Zander don't like sunlight and some of the lakes are getting to clear. Pike on the other hand are booming on those lakes. But I rather catch Zander!
Hi bro awsome video 😁 Could you tell me the location of zander?
Hey mate! I catch them out of the grand union canal & and the river severn 👍 most canal networks have them in now you just have to find them!
@@DanGoesFishing Thanks for the answer👊👊👊
Great upload 👍 I’ve only caught up to 4.11 but they really are something else aren’t they
Thank you! They really are! Become a slight obsession of mine over the recent years 😂 definitely a change of pace from the pike!
@@DanGoesFishing I’ll be after them again soon. Look forward to your next upload
@@BlackCountryPiker yeah same! Thank you!
You are really underated bro
Thank you appreciate this!
@@DanGoesFishing no problem mate Ur channel will grow I'm telling you there is no way u only have 40subs good luck bro
@@danielmcguire2789 🙌🙌

Great spot, that’s where I caught my first ever Zander.
Awesome! There are plenty if you know where to find them!
@@DanGoesFishing Where's the spot? Love to be able to catch my first zander. My canal just has pike and perch!
@@sepnowrouz8870 Grand Union Canal, Warwick area 👍
@@DanGoesFishing is that the LACC water mate?
@@johnc79 no that's mostly Hatton locks area I was above there here! I would recommend all LACC water though as it's a Zander protected zone and they're having some big fish coming out now!
Really nice video
Thank you mate!
What are the Daiwa reels that you are using?
The reels are daiwa black widow 4000. I would recommend👍
what are deep in these channel?
Would a float rig or float ledger work
Yeah they both work really well I use them both especially when I'm trying to cover more water!
How have you only got 25 subscribers? 😮
Haha not really sure what to say to this one! But thank you for the support 👍
Which rod and reel you are using?
These are wychwood 9ft extractor rods 2.75lb and the reels are daiwa black widow 4000. I would recommend both especially the rods 👍
lavely stuff
