This is why Tommy is one of the greatest shows on Earth! Loved his album with Chet Atkins and there will never be another, but Tommy is always awesome!
ya know, we need to give the ladies on the strings props for hanging in there and having fun with it as well. As a musician friend once told me, "We play for free, we get paid for traveling, setting up and tearing down."
A masterful showman and one incredible axe man. Tens of thousands of hours of sheer practice and innovation from one of the genius's of our time. Thanks Tommy for showing us what the other side of life looks like.
I saw Tommy live years ago - got a standing ovation after a 3 hour show with just an acoustic guitar. Never forgot that. This is absolutely masterful. hats off to the string section, stunning collaboration.
God bless Tommy...he seems to totally enjoy playing...he makes people happy from beginning to end. He belongs to the world and he does not mind. Beautiful.
It happens rarely... ...but, occasionally, highly-trained, virtuosic, "legit" talents are successfully encouraged by a virtuoso of a different sort to leave the Conservatory behind them, throw caution to the winds, and just blow. It happens here: As far as I can put it together, the Endless Road String Quartet has been hired to back Tommy Emmanuel up on a great arrangement of one of his signature pieces, "Classical Gas;" Tommy, ebulliently virtuosic entertainer that he is, can't let them get off that easy, so he goes into a multi-musical-quote extended intro (with a couple of false starts for the intended piece), to get their full attention and get them fully engaged; by the time he gets to "Johnny B. Goode," the string quartet is playin' the Blues. And so, at around 7:23, they begin to play the arrangement on their stands (which they were hired to play in the first place) and they are so warmed up, they chew it up in an incendiary manner. The only gift Tommy Emmanuel can ever give us that equals his stunning musicianship is the gift of getting to watch him enjoy himself in front of a crowd, as he bestows that musicianship upon them: Both of those gifts are on full display, here.
I LOVED this!! It was truly a joy to see and listen!!! For me, Classical Gas has spoken to my heart n soul for 50 years, since I first heard it when I was 6. Thanks for sharing! Much love to all!!💞
Wow this man is a GENIUS. This has to be one of the best things I’ve seen on UA-cam ever. I have played or should I say , tried to play the guitar for 25 years. AMAZING 👍👍👍👍
This is pure pleasure. I'm laughing, tapping my foot - just overjoyed. We are awaiting tickets for one of his shows. It's 400 miles away, but I'm determined.
A masterclass in entertainment! I love how the string section stay reserved for the first minute then gradually warms up to the "hell" he's putting them through. Brilliant!
+crasowl I'm with you on this one. Tommy obviously is a talented individual, but he's gotten to where he is through sheer hard work and dedication. He's an amazing inspiration to many.
Tommy talks over and over about the importance of practising EVERY DAY! There is no mystery to it...Hours and hours of practice..Learning the fundamentals and then expanding upon them ...every single day!!! Show me a SINGLE person who has been "blessed" with the ability to play guitar at this level without needing any practise!
I feel the same way , I'm better than most people in this neighborhood but he puts famous people to shame , set a side all that silly as joking , I'd like to hear Classical gas just from start to finish , its too good of a song to break up and joke around with and I want hear that James Bond from start to finish. I don't think he's human or he's from the future.
Mason Williams, Great composer and I love it when he plays his own song Classical Gas. Comparing the two of them is like comparing a vintage Model T Ford with a T-Bucket street rod. I love them both and one would be selfish and somewhat demented to believe there is not room on the road for both. Love your talent, work and energy Tommy. Will see you April 2020.
Strings "Should be an easy gig - just sit, play classical gas, all good..." ....... Yeah? No! Have you met Tommy? .......he finally got them all to laugh - I knew he would....:-)
he is having more fun ,,," playing". I guess you reach a stage in your chosen craft where you are soooooo amazing at it,,,,,it is just play,,,I can't wrap my head around his talent,,,wow,,,he just flows along ,,,so gifted ,,,
Crunchy ??? I'm not sure that would be the word ,maybe ? healthy ? anyway they are damn good to be up there with that cocky as dude ,I doubt he's really human , he is unbelievably good he can play ANYTHING better than the writer , he makes Steve Vai look regular , he has a right to be even cockier if he so pleases.Unreal !!
kinda sad note but a laugh on me. I love music, and Tommy OMG I listen to him for hours week after week. I can't play guitar or anything else... save the stereo. I do so love reading knowledgeable peoples comments though. Sadly I haven't a clue what an acoustic sweep pick is, yet your comment added color and joy to my listening experience. LOL, Thank you! now I need to look it up :)

One hell of a musical genius. Is he from another world ?
Flat picking by the way! Saw him a few days ago, he is a master.
Ren Yant yeah it’s called Australia

Totally agree. It is one thing to read music but another to be able to "Jam"! They did very well.
What a load of crap. So sad that you felt the need to "contribute."
@@servicarrider Not sure who that was aimed at, but Go Kiss A Duck.
The way he engages audience is absolute gem!!
Shredding taken to a new (and lofty) level.
Can't believe I was almost crying, watching this pure moment of happiness
me too. such joy.
One of the best finger picking guitarist in the world 😏😎🎸😍😍😍🤘🤘🤙🤙
Outstanding! I could watch and listen to him all day. He really enjoys playing and entertaining.
8:47 - just throws in a little BLAZING fast lick for a little added spice...
I truly Love this guy he is a great musician...One of a kind....
His brother Phil is also no slouch on the guitar.

Greatness doesn't express how good Tommy is! I have chills after hearing that! I have heard some awesome stuff but this... this, just wow!
I LOVED this!! It was truly a joy to see and listen!!! For me, Classical Gas has spoken to my heart n soul for 50 years, since I first heard it when I was 6.
Thanks for sharing! Much love to all!!💞
The man is an absolute phenom! Amazing!
The Endless Strings were amazingly good natured about the whole thing!
the important thing is that Tommy didn't spoil this special moment by hamming it up too much!
Wow this man is a GENIUS. This has to be one of the best things I’ve seen on UA-cam ever. I have played or should I say , tried to play the guitar for 25 years. AMAZING 👍👍👍👍
You cannot compare yourself to Tommy’s guitar playing - he has made more mistakes than you have made attempts.
he's got superb stage presence.
This is pure pleasure. I'm laughing, tapping my foot - just overjoyed. We are awaiting tickets for one of his shows. It's 400 miles away, but I'm determined.
didn't al of you know that tommy is in the happines business, and boy does he deliver !
something about watching musicians enjoying what the do can help but make you smile imo😄
We're not worthy. This is an example of how a music is played by a master.
God bless this man....sweet Jesus....
Well spent 11 and so minutes of my life... :) Very inspirational...
Tommy Emmanuel = the Jimmy Hendrix of acoustic guitar.
What a Deadly Medley!
This piece is EPIC !!!
Such a pleasure to have heard and seen that, thank you soooo much !
9 years late to the party, but idc, this guy is seriously talented. The power of the violins along with that guitar is brilliant.
From about 7:00 and onwards i just sat there, frozen, in my chair, with a stupid grin on my face, clenching my belly. That's how good it was!
I know EXACTLY what what you mean.
A masterclass in entertainment! I love how the string section stay reserved for the first minute then gradually warms up to the "hell" he's putting them through. Brilliant!
One of the best guitar player in the world, hands down.
Unfathomable to be so gifted.
I hope you're not trying to imply that this display is anything below 50+ years of hardwork and dedication to this instrument.
John Buffaloe You don't have to be aggressive or resort to name-calling. You're saying Tommy is gifted, are you not?
+crasowl I'm with you on this one. Tommy obviously is a talented individual, but he's gotten to where he is through sheer hard work and dedication. He's an amazing inspiration to many.

I have played guitar for 40 years, and this? I have no other words.
I feel the same way , I'm better than most people in this neighborhood but he puts famous people to shame , set a side all that silly as joking , I'd like to hear Classical gas just from start to finish , its too good of a song to break up and joke around with and I want hear that James Bond from start to finish. This shows his pure awesomeness and love for improvisation. And I am going to see him in March. :D
So clever - but as importantly, he's also a perfect darling. Full of fun.
Oh, that was so enjoyable! It's great to see a guitar run away from bowed strings!
I may not be a woman, nor a lady, but damn, I've been wooed.
I thought he was good, now I know he is brilliant and the best alive today.
Makes my heart sing. Thank you for a fine live version of the Classical Gas. The strings were fine!!
Funny, entertaining, beautiful and awe inspiring.
'Awesome' is typically an overworked adjective, often assigned to the merely remarkable or outstanding. This...is...awesome!!!!
SWEET!!! What an awesome guitarist AND a wonderful person!!!
Can't imagine how many hours he has under his belt...amazing artist!!!
Utter brilliance from start to finish 💕

Will see you April 2020.

Strings "Should be an easy gig - just sit, play classical gas, all good..." ....... Yeah? No! Have you met Tommy? .......he finally got them all to laugh - I knew he would....:-)

I'm glad to have at least 1 thing in common with Tommy. He sings out of tune just like me. This is one of the best show I've ever seen.
WOW! Pisses me off that I can't give this 2 thumbs up.
Sensational..!!! The tone from his guitar when playing James Bond was amazing.
tommy has an amazing music culture
Thank you so much for sharing this! You did well, considering he deliberately made it tough for you guys to keep up. I really love this. THANK YOU!
Go Tommy.

Wow amazing he even played he actual song with a plectrum pick this time!
Tommy certainly doesn't NEED to add the clowning, but it makes it even better.
Respect, finally someone who can play the guitar with crunchy girls on the strings...;-)

Please pray for Tommy Emmanuel........Due to all the unnecessary head bopping he is in extreme pain! Get well Tommy...we love you!
In a word, "WOW!"
Amazing
such a bloody showoff
! Brilliant!
@10:42 The God is doing acoustic sweep pick and the camera is panned to the quartet. What an irony!
The onstage camera guy may have gotten it, but we're not seeing it...
kinda sad note but a laugh on me. I love music, and Tommy OMG I listen to him for hours week after week.
