As a 71 year old guitarist whose interests are old torch songs, progressive jazz, and nuevo flamenco, I love your channel for inspiration. My favorite of the four was the Minor 11th.
Love getting your emails with links to videos like this. It always sends me off on a new practice path for the week. Major 13 is a beauty! Which chords in a key signature would you typically sub these for? 1 and 4? Great work - Kevin (AllForUke)
I've been practicing these for a few days and it has almost been like learning a new language. I'm getting them under my fingers sooner than I thought I would. Could you follow this up with how to use them to do a reharm? This lesson has been quite a touchstone. Thanks!
As one comment already mentioned, that MAJ 9 is incredibly lush. I seem to hear it in more than a few Robert GLASPER songs. In any case, it'll make almost anything sound a lot better! As usual your tips are on point, simple & clear, with no fuss. Don't stop! 🙂
You are such a great teacher..getting to the point with practical examples. I'd love if you would do a Vol. 2 of your Ultimate Guide to Jazz Chords in your paid service!!
@@Piano_Pig Please make an announcement and I'll gladly rejoin. I'd love much more content on voicings (with demonstrations and explanation of your thought process) - you are really good at explaining concepts!!
They are all amazing but the maj9 one was pretty mind-blowing for me, just because of how great it sounds for how simple it is. My natural instinct if i had F and C in the left hand would be to play the G on the top of my right hand, but tucking it an octave down and removing the 5th gives the voicing some beautiful space
the last chord, the maj13 is definitely one of my favs haha, i use it all the time and i love it. The first time i saw it it was from a Gospel musician
Hi Simon, I did comment on the PianoPig Facebook page but not had a reply..I'm New to Piano and recently been watching a Lot of you videos on here and was contemplating joining the Academy, but I realised you page isn't that active on Facebook. Is it still worthwhile joining the Academy? I mean is content still being added, will I get feedback etc as a member? Oh, and can I join with No knowledge of piano? If not at what point would be a good time to join? Thanks in advance....Stu
I‘ve been at the PPacademy for a while and I would say that it‘s quite worth it, especially for a beginner. As Simon said…. Check out the free trial. Can’t go wrong

Still dropping the gems, with simplicity and no drama. 🙌🏽👍🏽
That is one of Simon's superpowers!! No fluff when he teaches..just practical teaching.
Thank you! I do my best to keep it simple 😊🙏
Couldn’t have said it better myself.. ✌🏽

This Theory is always gorgeous. Btw I liked the minor 9 best. Keep doing this God will bless you more and one day will be a well known virtuoso.
Thanks!

Thank you for the lesson, I think I like minor 11 👍
I wish I knew these chords 65 years ago. Damn.
😂😂😂 It's never too late!

Yeah it's used loads in gospel!
My fave is the minor 9 -- it sounds kinda spooky and mysterious.
Min 9 is my fav
Good job
Thanks! 🙏
way kewl !
I like Kenny Barron m11. 3 notes left hand, stacked fifths. Right hand another set stacked one half up from left hand thumb.
I was almost going to include that one! Absolute beast of a voicing
So that would be F-C-G left hand (fifth and ninth) and then Ab-Eb-Bb right hand (minor third, seventh and eleventh). Great sound!
Maestro
min 11 is my favorite
Fm11 is my fav, big in the thumb game (:
Is the Fm11 correct? Why is the 11 on the bB and no in the B? I don't understand please help D:
With regard to F Bb ist the 11, while B would be #11.

@chrismowag6919 Literally Just joined the Academy 🙂
1:29 - I'm not the only one hearing MJ's Human Nature here right?
MJ's Human nature was written by Jeff Porcaro of the band Toto another great songwriter and even better drummer.
The fm9 is fire
The last one sounds dry.
