Since they stopped printing the operating calendar on the back of the park map and guide, I've come to understand that "dates and times subject to change" pretty much means they WILL. Now they seemed to have moved to a virtual park map and guide known as an app. It's so fluid that it can change while you're looking at it! Some seem to like it, while others find themselves more and more alienated.
I extremely appreciate this podcast You guys do an amazing job, and i learn so much about the industry and especially Kings Island. Thank you for taking your time to share your thoughts, im a very grateful listener.
I'll absolutely take the extra weekend of Haunt! The ride lineup for Haunt versus Winterfest is MUCH larger, the weather will still be mostly decent, (I do have to believe from a profitability perspective, this change was an easy decision for the park to make) ...and from my own scheduling perspective, the week before Thanksgiving was going to be a little hard to get over to the park, which I imagine is the case for others as well. I am pretty excited that I will now actually be able to make it to opening night for Winterfest!
Haunt = more rides! I only go to winter 1 or maybe 2 times. I saw Don last week in his mystery machine shirt. I should have said hello since I won’t see him again for a while. Although, I also want to squeeze in a Holiday World visit!
Definitely haunt - all the rides and fast lane - we go to Winterfest once per year - not enough rides, lines too long, no fast lane, can’t stand looking at Orion and Diamondback and not riding. Plus haunt is the only time to get a lot of night rides since they close at 10 or 8 the rest of the year. Miss the old days when they were open until 11 or even sometimes midnight on Saturdays.
Had a cool idea for Haunt. With having the DC license, have a walkthrough of the Injustice version of DC and trying to avoid the destruction of Evil Superman and others. We think that would drive a lot of interest.
The former International Restaurant location is very underutilized. I never had a chance to dine up there back when they had a restaurant up there in the 70's/80's and when I was going to finally go there it was gone. If and when Kings Island decides to rebuild the entrance they could design it to fit in with International Street and incorporate a new restaurant above the entrance.
I think Grand Pavilion is pretty comparable to Grain and Grill as far as the food served and small portions, so i am not sure that it would make sense for Kings Island to add another place like that.
When comparing food at Cedar Point and Kings Island I prefer Cedar Point. Probably because I go to Cedar Point for 2 trips per year and hit Kings Island weekly to CP is rare. I disagree that Coney BBQ is equal to Farmhouse and Brewhouse is equal to Grand Pavilion. I would put Conney BBQ on par with Backbeat BBQ. So much that I never eat at Backbeat BBQ because I know I can get it at Kings Island next week when I go. Grand Pavilion is more on par with Festhaus. Lots of food options, and lot of indoor seating. But Festhause is more like Harmony Hall at Carowinds (that is a different argument) Farmhouse and Brewhouse are both exclusive to their respective parks. I prefer Farmhouse because of the chili. That chili is awesome probably the best food in all of Cedar Fair/Six Flags. Hugo is a great value their portion size is great for a family on a budget. So far this year as a family of 4 we have eaten 221 meals in the parks.
I honestly didn't even realize they said winterfest was supposed to start the 22nd. I'm so used to it starting the Friday after Thanksgiving so I assumed that was the start this year.
Halloween haunt was the😅 best entertainment at ki since the 70s and 80s but the cuts to the show the last 8 years has ruined haunt. Will see if the addition of ghouls gone wild brings some of the entertainment back and they need to improve the bandstand show and bring something to the theatre. And the Christmas shows were cut last year so it was not as immersive as in the passed. I liked the Charlie brown Christmas in the😮 theatre the trolley show if the trolley is not available bring a traveling show I liked the idea of the added choir between shows at the bandstand. Two years ago they had some of the greats of the past entertainment come back in jingle jazz to roam . And the farm house is not the best barbeque at cedarpoint the barbeque place on the right side of the top fuel two is the best with entertainment during periods of the day. I missed the grand pavilion. I hate the Saturday sellout the first haunt day that is a tragic day at kings island along with the bag policy during haunt.
According to the current web site, they will be open Friday (11/1) and Saturday(11/2), from 11-midnight. But as we learned in this episode, double check before you go!
😂😂 say the Miami River brewhouse is even in the same galaxy as what you get at Cedar Point just shows your obvious Bias... It's not even close the Miami River brew house is disgusting there's nothing there that's appetizing there is nothing at Kings Island other than some pizza that's even worth eating it's a Six Flags culinary experience that's for sure and to call anything especially that barbecue place at Kings Island hello Dan I'm sure you've been to BackBeat barbecue at Cedar Point and we both know there's absolutely no comparison whatsoever

Actually Cedar Point is only open November 1st and 2nd (Friday and Saturday).
Park was always rented out on those weekends between Labor Day and Haunt.. P and G / Toyota
Glad to hear Don give his candid reason for bowing out of KI for the remainder of 2024.

The point as it own a barbecue house besides the farmhouse.
I would rather have an extra weekend of haunt because haunt has more rides and coasters running than Winterfest
How many people out there still think that Mr. Helbig "runs" Kings Island?
I love new years eve at KI. We have done the buffet the last 2 years and it's amazing.
Summer of Don!!

Cedar Point closes the week BEFORE Halloween Sunday 10/27 is the final operating day 😂😂😂

Chef Major does a great job at the Coney BBQ
