Casting with the current and retrieving against the current is actually wrong - you will be dragging the lure. The drift chute is meant to create drag to slow down the boat. Hence, you need to cast opposite of the chute/with the wind. This way you are catching up to the lure while its fluttering down naturally.
Very informative, I used this technique down near the chelsea sugar works, had very good success, definitely need a handbrake chute tho in the fast currents.
THIS WAS SO HELPFULL THANK YOU, THE BEST GUIDE IVE SEEN, I'm a young kayak fisherman (15) and I was wondering if there were any different techniques to soft baiting when on a kayak? Cheers mate!
AMAIZING to hear! Softbaiting is so much fun & we're pretty pumped to be able to help. Same technique except you have the advantage of being way more stealthy so you won't disturb the fish as much as if you where in a boat. Best of luck!
I'm not sure if that was just a random cast they showed on the video . If you cast in the direction of the drogue the soft bait will want to rise to the surface. By casting in the opposite direction it's going to flutter down naturally. Another technique is to cast forward at about 30 degrees and let the soft bait work around in an arc so it has longer on the bottom. It's important to keep touch with a soft bait. Once it starts going out the back in the direction of the drogue I let a little bit of line out trying to keep it on the bottom and staying in touch. I pick up a lot of fish when it's about level with the boat and just driting behind the boat.Once there's too much line out the back its matter of casting forward again.
We're using about 1.5m but at the moment we're actually experimenting with a shorter leader so the braid to fluro knot doesn't have to pass through the guides as much.
The only thing, is that you SHOULD reel all the way up to the boat. The fish could be chasing your bait down and then you shoot it away from it when you reel it back in too early.
Yes, sometimes bigger fish won’t come up to the boat, but I have seen multiple videos of people having their bait almost out of the water when a fish is seen chasing it, And then the fisherman almost swirls the bait around in the water for a few seconds and if the fish is very aggressive I have seen it have another go at the bait with the bait right next to the boat. Now this is very rare, but it happens.
Thank you for watching this Soft-Baiting tutorial! Would have preferred it of we made each segment a separate video or do like it the way it is?
Best tutorial I hv seen about softbait fishing ! Thanks guys !

Hi mate great video, what weight jig heads?

Cheers for the vid, great insight for a newbie like me. What weights do you prefer for the short and long jigheads?

Thanks for the feedback RJ! Yeah they definitely made a big difference

I have a shimano kaos 702 4-7kg rod for soft baiting. I fish in auckland generally, am I better to use this or a 6-10kg or a 6-8kg rod?
Great video thnks. can soft baits be used at night?
This video is outstanding, just wondering what video editor you use?
Really appreciate that! I shot & edited it (Ross Adams) I also manage the channel:)
How long does that tube of sauce last slapping it on like that? Not long is my guess and I can only imagine how much it costs.
Awesome video, but shouldn't the drift chute be on the other side?
Paul Puranam doesnt matter.what side your shoot is on ..the wind is obviously blowing the boat the opposite direction of the current that is all
Hey Paul. Yeah what Dixon said is spot on.
Datsa Beg Fesh aye!
One tutorial is great
Great soft-baiting tutorial, lots of good information ,what knot are you using between braid to leader and the knot to jig heads that loop knot?cheers

Thanks a lot!
Thank you for the tutorial ... in Indonesia where we can get it
Johan Syah hi you can buy from our website www.oceanangler.co.nz
@@OceanAnglerTV thank you sir ... 👍👍👍
Which place for biggners to fishing at beach. We don't have boat.
Off a point or rocks, a jetti. All work well with softbaits
Bit confused here. Your drogue is out the same way you're casting, yet you says you want to catch up to the softbait? What have I missed?
The drogue will the opposite way to where you cast. The drogue lets you see the direction you're drifting. It's acting like a handbrake.

@@MegaRobbo72 thanks. Great info!
How long do you have the leader?
I usually use about a 6 ft of leader.

Pls, your gel is using?
Zman bloody tuna
What rod are you using

True that Joe. Paul does like to target the bigger fish that are generally a bit away from the boat
