Very good overview, Ron. I'm lucky to have most of these as early presses which sound pretty good to me (and were very inexpensive). Having said that, any represses I've gotten I've been pretty pleased with as well (Sundazed issues, for example).
Pebktc sorry No from what I can quickly read I don't see anywhere who remaster them or if they are from the original master tapes and when they are they are proud to tell you
how does the yes fragile (acoustech) sound quality compare with 'the yes album' (rhino)? on par? better? almost? Since I have the fragile acoustech version, I'll have a reference point. thanks. *friday music soon to release 'the yes album' on 45rpm
Have not seen anything from you on the Beatles. I was wondering which White Album to buy? There are so many different mixes of this album, any thoughts? BTW, have you heard the new Sgt Pepper?
oh, and those Rhino Van Morrisons are wonderful, but not sure they best the OG US pressings, espeically HB&TSC which was cut by RL. They also have a different presentation than the original release, but they are wonderful in their own right. Check out their reissue of Blowin' Your Mind, it is awesome!
Ron - bought a bunch of the Rhino reissues. Most of them sounded real good ( the Van Morrison ones, Deguello etc.). However, I found both Tres Hombres and CSNY muffled and booming esp. certain tracks. Is that how its supposed to be as i know it was mastered from the original tapes? I've only listened to CDs previously. I've heard others say the same about these records...perhaps I got a bad copy!
crosby Stills and Nash is much better than the classic records reissue it does have a slightly muted sound overall but still sound good compared to others the Tres Hombres ZZ Top my copy sounds fantastic I compared it to an original black London label Canadian pressing and it was much much better but I do have a first edition they I know on there second pressing if it's that noticeable I would purchase another copy and compare them
Many thanks for your response Ron! I am beginning to like the Tres Hombres reissue, a lot. It's got that, as you say, "the back of the couch" punch! But I am having to increase the volume considerably compared to other records. Appreciate your videos a lot, some really great music in there and now I've got at least 6 new bands that I had not listened to before, so thank you (although you're costing me a lot of money)!! I am surprised you've not talked about any Italian prog rock bands. Bands like PFM, Orme, Banco etc.....some great music in that early 70s movement......
Ron, maybe a bit offtopic, but I have a question about a Doors Rhino reissue. As far as I know Rhino released two versions of 'Morrison Hotel' (US (RTI) and EU) just a few years ago. The pressings and covers are made in different record plants. I allready found out that the US edition has the cover and artwork like the original one, with a thick quality sleeve. However, here in The Netherlands (at a low price) they only offer a EU pressing and I'm not ordering it if it really differs from the US version. Hopefully you know more of someone who reads this. I also posted this question on Discogs (with no succes). Thanks in advance.
+M. Groningen Rhinos are digital if you want the best get the Quality records reissues. Rhino stopped using RTI a few years back when RTI started to get busy with the increase in record sales. Rhino switched to Pallas of Germany because Rhino got tired of waiting in line. Most folks Agree Pallas pressings are Very good. The Rhino Pallas records that I have purchased the covers are thin not like the Rhino USA pressings thick covers
+Ron Beaudry (Rockinroni) Ok, I had contact with Rhino and they said both editions are the same, but manufactured somewhere else. I think I'm going for the RTI pressing of Morrison Hotel or the Quality Records reissue, without taking the risk of receiving a thin copy instead of the thick sleeve.
Lots of great pressings there Ron. Do you think those ZZ Tops are better than the 1st US pressings? I love those. I think the Pro-Use Dark Side Of The Moon is a great pressing but the UHQR is by far the best, hands down. Grab one if you ever see one, the bass will crush you. nice series here. cheers :)
DoctorDeadwax yes the Rhino zz tops are cut above most any record, Now I had a 1st issue black london Canadian tres hombres and a Deguello get those 2 awesome both you will love them UHQR ok will keep a eye out but they are way pricy I will have to wait for a sale lol
Hey Frank That one is the Japan Pro use series it absolutely will destroy all other comers. it is a Japan 1/2 speed master really really good. they are pricey all depends how bad you want it
Like your videos Ron. Have you done a video on the reissues to avoid? Ones that are poorly done and are inferior to originals. I'd find that of even more value.
It is definitely better than the emi anniversary release some years ago, I have heard the mofi and it is good. I think the original reprise is just very good, they are both good, I was lucky and found a pretty clean reprise. Sounds very analog.
The Classic Records If I could remember my name is the definitive version. Its killer. The best. You should find a copy. Mine is 180 gram so who knows if that makes a difference but what I have I will never sell.
You should watch my video where I compare that exact record to the Rhino reissue the Rhino reissue sounds so much better so don't tell me how great the Classic records is the definitive and all that yeah when it came out I had read that it sounded fantastic so I bought it along with Crosby Stills and Nash that came out at the same time and they said that was great too but years later when Rhino reissued that record I thought what the heck those rhinos are so good maybe I should see how it sounds compared to their classic records and when I compared it to the Rhino the Rhino was amazingly better. So I have a lot more experience comparing these classic records to other versions sometimes to Classic one is great and sometimes it's not just because you want the record to sound better doesn't mean it will you have to let your ears do the judging and let the chips fall where they may. your mileage may vary I do enjoy your feedback and hope you are enjoying the videos thanks for watching
@@RocknRonni I wi have to try it. I have so many versions of this record. Not that one so I cannot say for sure but I have heard other Rhino reissues and although they do sound pretty good, sometimes they sound a bit overdone. Some Classic reissues exhibit this as well but in a different way. I guess they just sound more analog so to speak.
I have the Rhino 2010 reissue of the first CSN's first album. And I concur that it blows all past pressings away, right down to even the mid-70's George Piros cut that was done at the dawn of the "Warner Communications" era (and don't even get me started on how bad the 1841 B'way 1st pressing sounds compared to everything else). However, if you have not yet acquired the 2015 Geffen/UMe reissue of "Who Are You", I should say that you're not missing anything. It doesn't sound HORRIBLE, but is a bit on the muddy side (albeit with a very SOLID bottom end that does much to highlight Ox's amazing bass work) on several tracks, most ANNOYINGLY so on "I've Had Enough". Heck, the MCA 1st pressing with the brown band/off-white center label I gave up just to get the $ for the reissue sounded better overall, despite lacking punch in the bottom end. But whatever, I'm stuck with it for now, and I really don't feel like doing a ton of legwork or paying through the nose to get an OOP Classic reissue. So, guess I'd better learn to like this one! LOL! As for the 2015 of "Who's Next", it sounds good when you consider that the RECORDING itself was always a little below-par compared to other Who albums, a fact not disguise-able even on Decca or Track 1st pressings. Otherwise, another GREAT video, man!
Alan Elam thank you very much for your reply Gratz on the CSN Rhino a truly great record next if you shop on ebay and be patient like I was you can get classic records who are you for a reasonable price like i did I think I paid $30 and if you can find that MCA heavy vinyl of whos next it really does have audiophile quality sound thanks again for your great feedback Ron
New pressing of Fleetwood Mac Rumours is terrible! Sounds like tin. Old pressing from the late 70s sounds so good with a wide soundstage! Think some new reissued vinyls are coming from a digital source.
Yes the brand new reissues are mostly coming from digital sources if they're made by the big record companies they issue I'm talking about is from about 2012 pressed in Germany I used to have the nautilus super desk and I compared it to this version and it was actually better than the nattalis super disk but yes anything new just keep watching my videos on my channel that's my opinion of it the same as yours thanks for watching
I LIKE YOUR TEN YEARS AFTER, CROSBY REMEMEBER MY NAME, I LIKE VAN MORRISTONS ITS TOO LATE TO STOP NOW THE BEST OF VANS RECORDS, YOUR NIRVANA IS TUBE RECORDED
You do a great job, Ron. Thanks for sharing it.
Thank you very much
Very informative and a great resource. Thanks for posting. Your knowledge comes through in these videos.
Thank you for going out of the way and doing this for your subs. Great great great!!
Pebktc my pleasure,
I am now thinking of doing a video of reissues that failed.
Great information on what pressings to look for and in my opinion a great collection musically as well. Thank you !
thanks Kurt

very cool, well done mate
I like your posts. A true music lover like me
thanks Douglas glad you are enjoying the videos
Just watched this one again - have you had a chance to check out any of the new WHO reissues from 2015?
Pebktc sorry No from what I can quickly read I don't see anywhere who remaster them or if they are from the original master tapes and when they are they are proud to tell you

Where did that "Dark Side of the Moon" come from? It looks like a Japanese pressing, but I can't tell. Thanks Ron!
Cheers!

Who re issued the aqualung?
get the classic records reissue of Aqualung its the best by far its a little pricey but if you love the record its worth it
