It looks like UA-cam has been blessing me with videos from small creators recently. It's great to see people taking care of their CDs and not abandoning their collection in favor of streaming services. One of my greatest achievements of the last few years is convincing my parents to buy a new amplifier-CD player combo + a turntable and cassette player, after years of having old equipment we couldn't even use because of a worn-out laser. We also took that opportunity to sort our collection of 200 CDs, 150 records and 40 tapes, though I haven't gotten around to finishing that sorting job yet. Hopefully I'll get to it soon enough...
I believe in you! Finishing it feels so great, and I know you can do it! And I'm so happy you got updated sound equipment, it's so fun to listen to stuff on really nice speakers. Thanks for watching! The algorithm seems to have picked this video up, so I'm glad you found it! :)

OMG! I love this. I'll never stop collecting CDs. I have over 8,700. I wish I could organize mine collection but there's not too much space. I would need two of those rooms. Can you organize my collection please? LOL. This was awesome.
I wish I could haha. Obviously 8700 is a lot but you can get creative with space as CDs stack so wonderfly. My advice is to just go one at a time and eventually you'll get to the end! I'm so glad you enjoyed and thanks for watching!

What a glorious collection and great organisation. I'm almost at this stage with my 10,000 or so collection (half of which is CDs). It's really satisfying to finally get rid of the random unsorted piles into fully sorted. The timelapse reminded me of a 90's computer degragging, watching the groups and items moves as more get added and sorted.
7:30 the reason why you don't have a broken link is probably because the browser can find the D:/extras.htm file on the cd. but the things it link to don't work anymore. if you press f12 on that page and then reload it should show the error(I expect it is trying to load a page in a page with a but can't check without the extras.html

How come I didn't see any big CD box collections? I have some of those, and I wouldn't know how to display them neatly with all the other regular jewel cases...
So it depends. A lot of our CD box sets are on a different shelf on display, but there are some on the shelves if you look closely! I know on the bottom of that rotating tower with the last few letters of the alphabet I put an Adam Ant box set, along with a Johnny Cash and a credence Clearwater revival box set. They fit there so perfectly I left them, but I probably could have fit them on the regular shelf in their respective letters if I tried. I would say take it on a case by case basis, but as long as it is the right height, it should fit alongside all the regular cases!
@@phoenixrose18 Some of my CD box sets are humongous!! Lol. Btw, lately, a lot of Japanese editions have been reissued in mini paper sleeves. They save sooo much space, and are beautiful to look at. And less plastic waste.
I wasn't sure if id see anything that I'd point out. but you have "20 Years of discord' box set. I'd recommend giving disk 2 a shot. it's a compilation of that labels bands disk 1 is mostl hardore punk but disk 2 goes into a lot of emo, punk, post-hardcore, indie rock, riot grrl. fugazi and ian mackaye. legends
i sort mine by the song artist and then with that in mind and then the release year just to see how the artist has progressed and evolved anytime when i can get them physical forever
Another way would be to organize by alphabet letter and then do a consecutive but that would require a sticker. For example A1 to A35 , keep that in an excel . That way if you add to a letter you won’t need to do AA AB etc anymore …and if you need to find anything just go to the excel and pull it out (eg D65 , P20 etc)
While I don't know if my brain would personally understand that system (that's the beauty of organizing, everyone has their own way), I have considered using an excel spreadsheet to help with keeping track of everything. I would totally do it if it wasn't for the fact that it would take so long 😅
I love this video Now because I’m a complete nutter - I do alphabetical order - with that for instance Black Sabbath say … I start from the earliest / first releases- to the latest So not only Is it easier to find an artist - also easier to find the album I want because that’s how my brain works …It’s chronological, makes sense to me I’ve did this with every artist lol Took hours So worth it Plus I did this with my Audio cassette collection Plus the various artists I’ve put in the bottom shelf - alphabetical ( of course 😅 ) I did want them meddling with all the correct things up top Fun fact- some of the members of Depeche mode went to my infants, junior and senior school 😃 great band too
Bro I am also that way with chronological order, and I def did that for the bands that I knew it for. Maybe I'll go back and sort everything chronologically now that it's all sorted...
I don't care about alphabetizing mine. I have mine in groups like of greatest hits, 80's, 90's, modern and soundtracks. With the 80's, 90's and modern i put all of the artists and groups cd's together and in order of their release (same with the lp's too).
I wish I could be that knowledgeable to sort that way! It just goes to show that you should have your collection the way it makes sense for your own brain
@@phoenixrose18 Whew. That had my OCD acting up. How did your family end up with multiple copies of the same CD? Was this a situation where each of your parents had the same CDs? Or did one parent keep buying the same CD, forgetting they already owned it?
I'm not exactly sure, I have a feeling it had something to do with my dad being in the music business for a minute and then our collection getting mixed up and then not realizing that we had multiples. Some of them are different editions though, which I kept both of for obvious reasons lol
@@phoenixrose18 How many CDs are there anyway? For example, a 50-minute Porcupine Tree CD takes 317 MB of space in FLAC so there goes the math. It definitely sounds like a home server solution. :-) Not mentioning having to actually rip them... hehe. I can't even imagine how you personally go through the whole thing and find new favorites. I have 90 GBs of mp3s I've amassed over 22 years, and those are all albums I'm willing to listen to this day.
You're going to need to go through each and every one of those CD's to check for mold damage and disc rot. Storing them in a damp unfinished basement area like that is probably the worst possible choice for storage.
@@phoenixrose18 I get it. I have absolutely no space for my almost 2000 count CD collection in my current place - not even a damp unfinished basement. 13 years ago, I put the vast majority of my collection into individual scratch-proof sleeves that sit like file folders in two large hard cases . I tossed most of the jewel cases (but I kept the artwork). Far from ideal but it cuts way down on space and the cases are very dry with tiny desiccant bags placed in both. In your case, I would look into getting a dehumidifier or getting some large desiccant bags to put in that space to cut down on the humidity. Edit: A beautiful, eclectic collection you have there, BTW.
We do have dehumidifiers going! I like the desiccant bag idea tho, maybe I'll get some. 2000 is a great number! We all have to work with the space we have and do what's best for us! Thank you for the compliment, it means a lot! Thanks for watching ❤️
Yeah it's definitely a thing where CDs don't last forever like records. But if you store them well they will last a pretty long time! Retro video gaming is super cool, I have an N64 and play Mario kart all the time on it

Do you have the chemical brothers/fc kahuna albums?
I wasn't sure if id see anything that I'd point out. but you have "20 Years of discord' box set. I'd recommend giving disk 2 a shot. it's a compilation of that labels bands disk 1 is mostl hardore punk but disk 2 goes into a lot of emo, punk, post-hardcore, indie rock, riot grrl. fugazi and ian mackaye. legends
I'll definitely give it a listen, thank you! It sounds cool
Like the CD format, disks could be brought back and have great capacity.
You are the queen of the transition
Thank you 🥰
Great job. Thanks for sharing. I Am currently working on My cd collection. 💿 😎👍❤️🔊🎶🎶🔊🎶🎶✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️💯💯
Thanks for watching! Good luck with your collection!
Where did you put the P Diddy CDs and the dungeon over by the baby oil
That's my dad's problem lol 😅
I didn't talk about it but the amount of disgraced artists I found in there made me laugh
This is interesting to me nice to meet you
i sort mine by the song artist and then with that in mind and then the release year just to see how the artist has progressed and evolved anytime when i can get them physical forever
If I know the order of release I like to do this as well
Super crazy that you have alot of the same stuff thats in my collection. The Black Heart Procession... like... what!?
The best thing about my parents is how broad their music taste is so I grew up with a lot of variety
7:36 THAT PS A GOOD ONE BUT I DONT KNOW IF IM GONNA LAUGH LMAO
Your comment is good enough for me 😂
damn that's a lot of frickin CDs
Mad props for the The Wake shirt. I wish I had that many KMFDM discs.
Dude i grew up listening to the wake; so good. It's all my parents fault 😂
I saw a Numero disc.
Get the cds out of the basement that floods.
I wish I could! Maybe one day there will be space somewhere else...a girl can dream
In grid down , you are the magic person to see.
i would love to just look and look for hours through this collection
It's been a minute since I went through it, and it's so fun to just look through it and rediscover things
Great video! 👍
Thank you!
No Outkast??
No O or Q? No Ozzy or Quiet Riot?
We have them in the collection! I just didn't have any extra to sort when I got all the piles onto the table
One last question how many albums do you have? My father has 3695 and around half of them are stoner rock.
Watch to the end, I did some math calculations :)
Mom, can I have Spotify?
No, we have Spotify at home!
Literally!
I would totally do it if it wasn't for the fact that it would take so long 😅
Wow! Well how many were there?
Watch till the end to find out 😉
You should archive everything on a hard drive!
It's quite the idea...maybe when I have a lot of time on my hands again I can archive everything
I love this video
Now because I’m a complete nutter - I do alphabetical order - with that for instance Black Sabbath say … I start from the earliest / first releases- to the latest
So not only
Is it easier to find an artist - also easier to find the album I want because that’s how my brain works …It’s chronological, makes sense to me
I’ve did this with every artist lol
Took hours
So worth it
Plus I did this with my Audio cassette collection
Plus the various artists I’ve put in the bottom shelf - alphabetical ( of course 😅 ) I did want them meddling with all the correct things up top
Fun fact- some of the members of Depeche mode went to my infants, junior and senior school
😃 great band too
Bro I am also that way with chronological order, and I def did that for the bands that I knew it for.
Wow, I expected way more views when I scrolled down after finishing the video
Haha thanks! Im just a teeny tiny youtuber here
When I saw this picture I thought it must be a late AOL subscriber
You should store the albums of each band also in alphabetical order. So Ultra by Depeche Mode would be last and Black Celebration would be first etc
You know I don't think I could personally navigate a collection set up like that (I prefer timeline order) BUT if that works for you, then go for it!
any skramz?
I don't think so :(
lol I have treble that taking up space in my garage
when that small channel makes better vids then the biggest channels on youtube
Omg thank you so much for the compliment 🥰
Looks like you have more than one copy of the same CD in several instances. Why not sell your duplicates to make space?
After I sorted everything, I did take them all out and do just that!
And now imagine going to rip all of them in FLAC. :-D
The amount of storage that would take....
@@phoenixrose18 How many CDs are there anyway? For example, a 50-minute Porcupine Tree CD takes 317 MB of space in FLAC so there goes the math. It definitely sounds like a home server solution. :-)
Not mentioning having to actually rip them...
I wish I could store them somewhere else!!! So far I haven't noticed anything on any of the CDs I've used, but yeah it's definitely not ideal 😅
The release of albums goes by the year.
I was just listening to Tool. What a strange coincidence
Omg wow!!!! That's fun
@phoenixrose18 nah, it looks like you were the one who was having fun. I can only imagine how cathartic it felt when you were done.
What's CDS?
CDS nuts lol
I'm so sorry that was very childish of me. Do you really wanna know?
@@phoenixrose18 no, I was giving you a hard time. And the Deez nuts joke was great 😉 I can dish it out I can take it too
Keep them whatever you do.... they'll be worth a lot of money in 10 to 20 years time.
Better than money in the bank.
Oh don't worry I'm making sure they're not going anywhere any time soon
You're like if Edd from Ed, Edd n Eddy was real.
(I mean that in a good way, I'm like that sometimes, too)
Haha thanks!!!
4000 plus cds, Dang that's Alot
BUT do you know how many songs you have in your collection 😆
No 😂
Given there's an average of 15 tracks on a CD, my estimate would be around 72000.
Create a "card catalog"
You thought you had problems -i have 30 000 vinyl albums!!
I don't see a problem with either number 😂
all good till they start rotting. my poison is retro video games. they will one day just stop working.
Yeah it's definitely a thing where CDs don't last forever like records. But if you store them well they will last a pretty long time! Retro video gaming is super cool, I have an N64 and play Mario kart all the time on it
Rip them to FLAC with an audio ripper PC
By released date
Nobody made a joke about how you should CDs nuts?
Hm.
No but I made it to someone in the comments a while ago, it's a missed opportunity I didn't make on in the video itself
