For me, the biggest financial trap in life, is to buy liabilities, while you don't have assets to cover their cost. Securing them with your paycheck (that is not secure)

At least 65% of our GPD is driven by consumerism. The world is set up to encourage consumerism, borrowing, and working hard to make loan payments. The crucial strife is not between the haves and have-nots. It’s really between the sellers and buyers. It is important to have a product or service that you can sell. That way, a significant part of your energies are focused on selling instead of only buying.

Biggest trap someone can fall, is believing other's life on social media is perfect. You see everyone holidaying, partying and shopping. But in real life most people are under big credit card debts or depression. I fell for it, now I do not care.

Booze, drugs, or overweight trap! I have seen people close to me lose their joy and freedom in these traps years before they pass away too young. As the quote goes, the chains of this trap are too light to feel until they're too heavy to remove. Every inch deeper into this trap takes 10x the effort and desire to reverse it, so get out ASAP! As a person in my 60s, I am amazed how much I can still enjoy hiking, building, walking, marriage, and living because I am free from this horrible trap.

So the trap I would like to speak about I call the "Hoodrat trap". Anyone who grew up in a low income ghetto can tell you that ghetto culture is pervasive and omnipresent in low-income neighbourhoods. Many low-income earners see this skillset as a necessity, and for many that is the case, however over time these traits become a permanent fixture of one's personality. On a personal note when I left the ghetto I was shocked by how the other half lives and now one year later the exact opposite is true. While in the ghetto I was mocked for keeping two jobs, here I am praised for my long hours. While in the ghetto I was mocked for eating cheap foods, here I am praised for my frugality. Even romance is a polar opposite outside the ghetto: while in the ghetto women expect a man who is strong, violent and has lots of money at the same time he doesn't work, in the outside world (and I'm still trying to get used to this one) women like a hardworking, honest man who will stand the test of time. In summary if your are reading this and you think you may be trapped in the hood just remember only you can get yourself out of there. Make a plan, follow through, get out. I lost over $50k selling my house at a loss and the only thing I regret is not getting out of there sooner.

Death is better then no liberty. I started a project this a book titled "Ghetto Glacier"I hope you support at Barnes and Noble Amazon. I am so tired of the falsehood of our culture.

The denial of addiction trap. While it's easy to identify addictions like smoking or drinking, eating the wrong kind of food, consuming TV serials, or spending time talking too much ...things like that are not seen as addictions...I fell into one of these and had to make lifestyle changes when it caught up with me. Maybe it falls under the letting go of Cheap thrills trap :)

Great video on this very important topic. By following the masses, I would break the losing traps people fall into by the following areas:
    1. To do traps- going to concerts, sporting events, bars, clubs traveling, etc. While all of these sound good in name are they really that great of time? That concert of the singer past their prime where you overpay for bad seats, deal with rude crowds to hear music that will never be as the studio version does not seem like a good investment of time or money. In moderation all of these are reasonable but the frequency some people engage in these activities is insane.
    2. Time traps- social media, sports, video games, porn, binge watching, etc- Do these activities really make you happy.?
    3. Eating- are three large meals a day necessary after your teenage years?
    4. Drugs, drinking and smoking- Is damaging your mind/body, sucking away your energy and reducing years of quality life away worth it?

Like always - great video! As far as other traps go -- I definitely fell victim to these two traps before and see others fall for them often: The "Live by the Rules Trap" & the "Doing All Things in Order Trap".
There is no one set way to live life and there are no 100% rules to any of it. You can follow whatever standards you want to the letter and still end up unsuccessful (however you define that) and unhappy. So, have principles -- sure -- but don't be limited by them.
And when it comes to doing everything in order, what order are you modeling off of? What "normal" defines your order? Do you go to school, graduate, get married, buy a home, have kids, etc.? Or do you get the house when you see that it's a good time to buy on the market. Does pursuing your entrepreneurial dream come before or AFTER you find love? I don't have the answer to this because the point is that - in my eyes - there isn't one. If you wait until the timing is perfect for every little thing, you'll find that you miss a lot of life's golden opportunities and sweet surprises.

Confusion assets with liability. Like a house "you" own but have not paid off yet and live in is not asset. Also car's fall into this trap as well they can turn into currency pits quick witch also touch on your sunken cost.
Another big financial trap I see if people going thru life never gaining any skills. I see so much potential in gaining skills. It only takes about 6-9 months of doing a job to have that skill down. No one wants skills they just want a high end job. For me I did tech support for camera manufacturers then sales for door to door cell phones and over the phone sales for camera manufacturer. Then learn more and more about the installation of the cameras and then different between asset and liability. Also internet installation. Currently I'm working on other languages and accounting. Not to mention the other random skills I picked up from doing contact work wile I continue to build my business.

degrees are only valuable if they get you what you want. I began as a culinary student and after a semester got myself a TEFL certificate and switched to Political science. I love meeting foreign people and i like traveling to exotic lands. I also want to marry a foreign woman as I think they are more interesting. With a BA and a TEFL certificate, i can work in just about any nation that I want. It is much better to travel as a teacher than as a US soldier, business person, or government official seeing that I can choose what country I want to go to and no one will be shooting at me when I arrive. It is also nice to have that piece of mind that if the economy of the USA tanks I can always jump ship and find work elsewhere. This is a major reason why I do not want to marry an American woman as she is not likely to want to leave the USA and go live in a Cambodian farming village where there is no hot running water and the houses do not have windows or screen. Basically the best piece of advice is to know what you want and figure out the best way to get it and to always have a plan B. If i cant work in China than Vietnam would be a good alternative as it is basically the same country except they speak a different language

You can't make a decision without procrastinating first. It's stupid to make a decision without thinking it through. If, for example, you want to pursue a certain career, it's wise to start working in your field of choise for at least a year and then make a decision. Furthermore, you might want to prepare for your journey, which can take time.
Certain types of studies ( for example math, computer sience, engeeniering, chemistry, pharmacology) which are worth studying, can't be started without proper preparation. The same is true for any kind of entrepreneurship. You can't just get started. You have to be careful and you need a good financial backround as well as a mentor.
A neglected part of the ' just get started' idea is that you have to be healthy. Any sort of health problems can drain your energy, cost a fourtune and prevent you from succeeding. They have to be fixed first.

Degree's are important. I took a sales job to learn how to sell, started businesses and tried to get off the ground; never earning enough to have capital to build the business. If I had gotten a mortgage brokers license right out of high school I would have earned good money for 3 years before that market got weak, I'm not a realtor or car salesperson and the telemarketing jobs I took were crap. I now have a bachelors, I can get a job making $47k/yr easily and put that towards retirement, down payment on a house or starting a business (story of my life.) I'm working on an MBA in finance, if I use it I can be a financial analyst and start at $80k. Not going to college cost me time. I had my suspicions that the market would go bad that combined with not allowing someone to slap a mask on my face and tell me they're protecting me meant that I had to focus on studying. I wish I could have another few years; but I'll just hope Trump gets back in office and then 6 months later the economy will be shockingly better (look at 2020, it was like that scene in Bruce Almighty where the lights go out and he claps to force things better; of course that's where the comparison ends.) I have projects that may bear the fruit I've waited 20 years for, it would have been nice if I had it 20 years ago; but better now than never. I just have to convert assets to cash without taking too bad a hit and I'll be able to day trade and fund an advantage gambling team. My point is that I could have done this sooner if I had a degree at 20-24 rather than waiting and not knowing how some classes would slow me down. Worst part, the bachelors degree I got didn't exist until right before I enrolled; so I would have had to go into a more expensive program if I weren't in my early to mid 30's when I did it.

This trap is very very common and human culture very much encourages it: The TALKING TRAP. Have noticed that when you talk to someone, you completely lose FOCUS on what you're doing? I notice that so much. I've realized that PEOPLE ARE THERE TO DISTRACT YOU FROM YOUR FOCUS. LISTEN MORE, TALK LESS PEOPLE.

I can add that in VISUALIZATION I recently learned from my teach Ryuu Shinohara that you want to literally with ALL senses step into your FUTURE SELF! I have been doing in my meditation and it is INCREDIBLE!
I coproduced the largest 007 fan convention in 2003 - SpyFest - on the Queen Mary and I had never heard that about Ian Fleming! By the way video reminded me to get back and FINISH my first novel! 😂

It's painful to see 30-40 year old friends and family stuck living at home unemployed because timing isn't right and "I graduated when it was the financial crisis, and of course Covid, and I'm not lucky like you.., besides, men are in their prime at 50 so I have another 15 years..I can't tell if they're using these excuses to do nothing or it's a real anxiety.

I like the other quote from Coach Corry Wayne (on Utube) also: "What We fear the most We attract."

The vice trap. This is a big one, it could be alcohol, could be sex, or even drugs but anything that you run to for instant gratification or to feel good when a crisis or emergencies arise these things lead to an addiction of time and one becomes trap.
Living in the past due to a failure or mistake trap. We all have some form of regret but one must learn to move forward. You can't go back; so, learn from the past and move forward, if you don't you become trapped.

I have to disagree with the degree part. I got a hard time telling my kids not to go to college and get an education. I know it definitely depends on what field they want to go into, so I’m not against trade schools. But I’m one class away from my degree and I know for a fact that I’d be making more money if I actually had that degree. Once again, I’m not against other avenues but completely trashing a college education is something I can’t get behind.

I know that comment will not be popular, but it's still a fact: Getting married. Seriously, when you're a man, what do you get out of marriage? What does being married brings you, in terms or gain, or anything positive? Nothing! 50% of marriage ends in divorce, and 70% of these divorces are filed by women. And I don't have to tell you who loses the most $$$ after break-up. Even if you sign a pre-nup, if she claims she signed it because she felt pressured to, a smart lawyer can get that agreement annulled easily. Why would you spend your life working hard, building a successful life, making sure you have wealth to live comfortable for the rest of your days, and risk losing it all legally?

Free money can come in different forms. Example, I help people obtain a prescription discount card which pays up to 80% of a person's out of pocket costs on prescribed medication(AND IT'S a FREE resource). Society has to rethink the meaning of "FREE"; NO ONE HAS TO PAY FOR OXYGEN BEFORE HE OR SHE BREATHes IT IN(except a person on a ventilator in an emergency room). In times like these, we need a free resource that could be the breath of fresh air in our lives.
