  • 2022 Orbea Oiz H30. Best Budget XC Race Mountain Bike?
    Today, we are going back to one of my favorite bikes on the market. That is none other than Orbea's beautiful aluminium Oiz. I weigh the bike as well and discuss whether or not I still think the Orbea Oiz H series is still one of the best budget friendly mountain bikes to get you started in your local XC races.

    I just bought that bike today. I have a cannondale habit 5 that I have ridden for 2 years now.
    I was a little concerned that the orbea would be squirrely by comparison. That is not the case at all.
    The orbea is very confidence inspiring and I wouldn't be scared to hit a little gnar with it.
    Thanks for s great review. You helped me decide to grab one.

    Excellent review... Also for 2022, BH is releasing a budget version lynx race carbon rc 7.0. Its a full xt 12 spd set-up, with fox performance 34 sc fork 100mm and fox performance rear shock, and rest is decked out with BH components. It's has a sweet looking frame. Hope u are able to get ur hands on it.

    Have a 2020 H30 and love it. First full squish bike and didn’t see the value in going carbon. With a dropper and came in Klixx wheels it’s right under 30lbs. Could probably scrub so weight but it’s not my bike fault I’m heavy hahaha.

    Hey, so there are Orbea OIZes in both XC and TR versions, and this one has the XC geometry, no matter the 120mm of fork travel, right? I'm a bit confused because they say on their website that TR versions have 120mm of travel, but then some of the bikes have the TR in their name, and some don't

    The problem with having to upgrade the wheels is that you'll be paying almost as much for the wheel upgrade as you paid for the bike. You pay $3300 for a bike and have to upgrade the wheels right off the top, you're adding another $2k or so. So now you have a bike that you paid $5300 for with an alloy frame and Deore parts. Deal breaker for me.

    • @MysticMac000

  • @mariopejovic

    So, XC is going 120mm front and rear now? Guess Scott Spark isn't outsider anymore :) that is one nice looking bike. But it would be better if it had 34 fork. I know they are heavier but with increasing travel and more demanding courses, forks should be stiffer, IMHO. Regarding the price, recently I read Orbea announced 8 or 10% price increase. Not sure is that calculated into this model or we can expect to be pricier in next months. And I doubt prices will go down anytime soon... Great first impression Mossie and good luck with the weather and upcoming race

    • @MossieRidesBikes
      @MossieRidesBikes  2 роки тому +2

      I definitely see 120 being the new norm for XC bikes in the next few years. I do agree with you on the 34s but I also think Orbea stuck with the 32s because of the a availability and cost. I recently installed a 130 Fox 34 on my Oiz and extended the rear end to prepare for some harder races this year 🤗

      @@MossieRidesBikes so downcountry bikes of the future will be 150mm + bikes? 😁 But jokes aside, for most of the people bikes like Giant Trance are just fine. 130-120, or even 115 rear on previous models. My next bike (who knows when) will probably be some kind of (current) DC, so I can climb well without being too nervous on steep or rougher descent. I love to pedal uphill anyway, not really into enduro type of riding

    The bike came with all the tools needed to assemble ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L and the included instructional video made assembly a breeze. I bought the 20" bike for my child and it looks very nice and rides well. The 6-speed shifter is a little tight on the ends for the little hand but operates well between gears 2-5.While the paint is of good color, it seems to be very thin. I peeled off the white barcode sticker and it took off a big piece of paint with it. Now I need to find some touch-up paint to seal off the steel from the environment before it rusts...

    That's not a "little heavy." it's a LOT heavy. Why not build up a Chinese carbon full suspension frame instead and use the big savings (read thousands of dollars actually) to buy top or near top tier level components and end up with a very light and capable xc racing bike for almost halfthe price you would if you bought a "name brand" ? No, I'm not talking off the top of my head.. I've done this very thing myself and know how much more capable for xc my bike build is than a lower level name brand bike. I've podiumed in nearly EVERY race I've entered on my Chinese build frame with a Chinese open mould. Chinese manufacturers offer frames only a few hundred grams hevier for a fraction of the price that work just fine. And yes, I do know what I'm talking about after living in Thailand and racing a chinese frame for more than five seasons with virtually NO problems in 46 xc races and NO failures of carbon on that hardtail, along with a new full sus chinese carbon build that has one 3rd and two 1st place finishes on it out of 3 races. No bad eh? BTW, my 7 year old 27.5 hardtail frame that has 49 actual races on it is still going strong and weighed only 1200 grams withthe complete build coming in at 9.79 kilograms which was plenty light enough to be very competitive along with a geometry that performed wonderfully in climbing and through tight winding North Thailand jungle. My new full sus chinese xc carbon frame build comes in right at 10.0 kilos on the money, and with an entire investment of less than $4500 USD. Any name brand coming in at 10.6 kilos or less will set you back $8,000 USD at the very least.. (check out their websites and find me one xc full sus bike that weighs less than 10.6 kg and costs lessthan $7900). There aint any. and yes mine is tough enough to do real xc racing, as I have raced it in Colorado ( a 3rd place in my age group )as well as Thailand ( two wins so far.) Still wanna believe that Chinese carbon is inferior and weaker than name brand big bike carbon? Well, you can lead a horse to water, but can't make it drink. Up to you. I'm just say'n.

    • @jpm408
      @jpm408 Рік тому +2

      He said that frame has a lifetime warranty. Just change out the wheels to carbon. For someone on a budget, that's a great deal. With Chinese carbon, you take a risk. I will take the bike made in Spain with a winning track record to boot.
