High Time - Jerry Garcia (solo acoustic studio)

- Jerry Garcia solo in studio. Working on some tunes for the album "workingman's dead" in 1970. Very stripped down, informal sound. Almost like he was playing for you in your living room.
Note: This demo is audio that did not have any accompanying video. I edited snippet of Jerry playing "cold jordan" of roughly the same period and inserted some still photos to make the video portion.
"You told me goodbye. How was I to know? You didn't mean goodye. You meant please, don't let me go." Some of the most powerful lyrics written... I always well up with tears at that when I'm really into this song. Love it.
me too.
Robert Hunter was a Genius
Amazing how when Jerry sings all my troubles just melt away.
yes, and it goes surprisingly well accompanied by some nice grass as well!
Amen..don't they tho.❤

This is really nice. Does sound like he's just sitting in my living room, singing it straight to me. Thanks for posting it.
Jerry saved me
Listened to High Time a lot when "Workingman's Dead" was released, Great music! and Those lyrics always told me something Do not to cross the line! May jerry rest in peace.
Right around 4 minutes he goes into falsetto. So damn good
Opts for the high harmony on the bridge!
We can only imagine the orchestra and fireworks going off in his head!
When I listen to working man’s dead… this tune is my treat
That was ....so beautiful and raw.
We miss you Jerry
THANKS FOR ALL THE MEMORIES... THE MUSIC...THE SHOWS..R.I.P JERRY

Jerry was just so sweet and even nicer as a friend
I know that this was posted 4 years ago, but thanks for posting!
+Michael Nussbaum - Thanks, glad you enjoyed.
Pure Jer...nothing more sincere
Some people say his voice was terrible when he was older but I think he made these songs better with age and his raspy voice.
god damn i miss jerry as if i knew him. and i wasnt even around in that time..
Very cool post, thanks! I love raw tracks like this and Jerry uncut and raw is awesome!
What a hidden gem. A new facet on this old favorite with little polish, but the finished jewel is apparent.
what an amazing song! GREAT acoustic version!!
The voice of a generation.
Beautiful as always Brother. Love you. 💜
Marvelous video! Thanks for putting it together...brings Jerry right to your heart. Cheers from a forever hippie girl...

This is an excerpt from the film "Festival Express". They are on a train. She is Sylvia Tyson. She wrote "You Were on My Mind" in 1962.
Good bless him
Today is August 1st, 2012....Jerry's 70th birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CAPTAIN TRIPS! Still miss you every day.....
Very cool...
Very nice Willy !
It's so funny how technical everyone is trying to be with the source of this video, yet not technical enough to read the description by the poster of the same video. Anyway it sounds really good, I love this song thanks for posting.
Thanks.
I fucking love this video!! Real or not. Don't take it so serious. It is an amazing compilation of Jerry at his finest.
Beautiful! Jerry's 'unclean' voice fits so well with this song... or vice-versa. Either way, it's so nice to hear!
Lovely
Loved
Happy birthday Captain Trips
Dang, that was goood!
miss you jer
Only Jerry could make an out of tune guitar sound good
Kurt Cobain
wowforreeel You sir, win the internet! funny comment

NICE AND RARE PERFORMANCE...
TODAY, 20 YEARS AGO
when
JERRY GARCIA
(August 9th, 1995)
was dead
I guess people don't read the description of the video. Love the song and the video
Oh my fkng God Jer
do you have any other solo acoustic songs from jerry? or better yet, where did you find them?
RIP Jerry
I think I heard the trip was actually notable for its LACK of chemicals, and that they stopped along the way somewhere, took up a collection and cleaned out a liquor store near the track!
Does it get any more beautiful?
tnx
I like it!! Like it!! Yes i do!
I was going to ask if this was from festival express but I read further and saw it was.
If anybody reading this hasn't seen that movie and likes any kind of music that's ever been made I highly recommend seeking this film out and watching it over and over. That's all I'll say I don't want to give any more away.
Gota Love This :) QC
genius! ;)
Ya, best just to scroll down, although i love seeing Jerry, the sound is what is more important, I keep hitting repeat...
Hard to pic 1 Jerry song as the best..this one is definitely in this category as 1 of best. Wish it was 1 of the songs live I heard...always b that empty spot maybe Dark Star Orchestra can fill that hole halfway
saw Furthur play it on their last new years run, it's wasn't Jerry, but it was great
🙏

aint nothin for certain, esp tix to fare ye well tour
he is singing Cold Jordan in the video ..
Damn, Sylvia, Damn!
He's just trying to figure it out for the album. The chord changes are a little different. Jerry said "I failed on the song (High Time)" He felt it needed a "better singer" and it was out of Bob's range. I think he sounds great on it. But I would love for that vision to be heard.
I could be wrong but I believe this is an outtake from Festival Express, not a studio, it's a train!
Damn
He is playing Cold Jordan in the video lol
sing it bro sing it
@slipnutt This vid clip is from the Fest Ex. I believe he's play Cold Jordan on the footage but he's not playing High Time on this train ride. Might As Well lyrics are from his experience from this train ride in CA. " One long party from front to end.. Choo Choo goes the whistle around the bend "
Janis and Danko crack me up singing "Ain't No Cane On The Brazos" during this same segment. A very young Kenny Gradney (from his Delaney & Bonnie days) is in the earlier part of the movie.
Jerry WAS the Grateful Dead! Died in rehab because couldn't kick Circe's Isle if the lotus eaters.
This is a hard one to play.
28 people are having a hard time living the good life...
Whoever it is she is under his spell ;)
Jerry singing Cold Jordon :)

No matter how much you might love Festival Express, and I do, we got gyped cause imagine just how much music and footage was recorded. They probably taped every performance at every stop en route. There should be a boxed set to represent at least every band and artist that came on board that train. Where is it? Probably sitting on someone's shelf never to be seen by the people who need to see it, like me!
Seriously. I want the raw and uncut version of that movie. How do we get I'm contact with the person to make it happen
Well thank god they been releasing a shit ton of those recordings lately
Dear Lord, just tell me that Jerry got a piece of that..... cause you know what I'm sayin'!
pretty sure the video doesn't match the song. the vid is from Festival Express - he's singing Cold Jordan. It can be easily watched on the youtubes. As for the audio, sounds like studio but not sure of the source.
this songs like the story of my life..
😢😢
Aren't we all ;)
Interesting jerr sings “listen here baby, what else can I say,” instead of “cause I mean what I say.”
Now there was a man
Yep Todd. This guy worked and he worked. (And after that he worked) They took him to Hawaii to try to save his *ass. He died 6 months later.
Does anyone know who the woman sitting with Jerry is? Just wondering.
Sylvia Tyson, of Ian & Sylvia who were also on the Festival Express train.
First time seeing this video and was wondering the same
Every Cloud , Hey I live in vancouver Meanie LOL
what was this filmed with??? a potato???
Joey Powers listen
He slowed down the video an the song he is playing is actually Cold Jordan. Not High Time. Its from Festival Express
Not out of tune! I've seen a lot of people say that. I loved the song so much I REWROTE IT using different chords! And no I didn't use a capo. Jerry was a genius! I did the same for many other songs over the years. I rewrote a John Denver song 2 times over. Jerry Garcia was a genius and my other recent favorite theirs is BLACK PETER. Just like this, a lot of people don't understand the song write, but it is genius.
Pigpen was the best. Most only know Jerry lol
The sound is not from the actual video playing...wtf
WALSTIB✌Beautiful ❤⚡💙💀🌹
different key than the studio version
I little high for him
Did you catch the amile he commanded out of the girl next to him
