    She might not know but Canadians value nature over the amusement parks. If anything, the amusement parks can be dangerous if you are not always watching them and if they are not familiar with the country which is why many avoid them. When I had visitors from foreign countries, the only time I took them to amusement parks was when I was with them 100% of the time.
    It's why hiking, skiing, biking, camping, etc. in Canada is so popular and why we have so much place to use it. It's safer than in Japan but as is always the case, there are some places where it is safe in the country and other places that are best avoided.

    • @kwj_nekko_6320
      @kwj_nekko_6320 3 роки тому +7

      I don't think hiking in Canada is safer than in Japan. Japan is a much smaller country than Canada, and Big cities are far away from large mountains, so the most popular hiking spots (near from big metros) are overcrowded and overdeveloped, taking away the risk of being stranded or getting hurt.
      FYI, Mt. Takao, located in the west of Tokyo metro is often cited as the most visited single mountain in the world, and its height is only some 600m! The forest is relatively wider than to be expected from such a low mountain, but it is certainly overdeveloped and overcrowded.
      Surely there are also many dangerous mountains in Japan, notably the 'Japan Alps' region, Mt. Fuji (the highest in the country), and many other live/dead volcanoes, but those are quite far from big metros and the people usually prepare heavily for them.

    • @kidn00b1
      @kidn00b1 3 роки тому +8

      @@kwj_nekko_6320 Well it depends, because of how big Canada is there are thousands of trails that are very easy for anyone to traverse and are typically all over the place, through towns, residential areas, shopping districts and cities so it's not all that different. Although, without question, the countryside is a completely different story. Outside of how massive and easy it is to get lost like you implied, there's tons of predators and the climate is much harsher.

    • @TalesOfGod
      @TalesOfGod 3 роки тому +4

      @@kwj_nekko_6320 There happens to be both in Canada. Some of them happen to be very close to cities for people who want to take a stroll with family and friends which is always nice, there are others that are more in the rural areas which would be going into what you are talking about.
      I feel that overcrowding is an issue for safety in these areas, particularly in these times of the pandemic. Either way, I am no expert about this so just take it as an opinion of a random guy on UA-cam.

As for the forest, they probably were trying to be different and instead of showing her less tourist-y attractions like amusement parks, were trying to show off Canada's natural parks. I can totally see that as coming off as creepy though.

Though this is still a somewhat cringy thing to do in front of outsiders in Japanese culture, recently quite a lot of young couples do that also in open spaces. I think the awkwardness comes from the fact that there were only a few people (possibly only the host couple and Subaru) in the room (possibly livingroom) in a very late time.

      If it was around fall or spring time, then yeah, that makes perfect sense. Assuming she came around springtime, which is when foreign exchange students typically show up, there should be rain still, but we'd be getting warm and people might start to get into an early summer mood and bust out the grill. It's also possible that the new husband wanted to show Shuba some hospitality by busting out his grill early in the season before she leaves.
      It's unfortunate that she felt awkward in her trip, I'm sure it wasn't intentional on the host family's part, and they wanted to try showing her some of our specialty rather than just more city life. If you're in BC, our nature parks are a must see.

  • @Drocell_

    This sounds a lot like a high school exchange program. My neighbor's family hosted Korean students for many years and the pre-move stuff sounds exactly the same. I wonder if she stayed with a family in Vancouver, based on the rain and BBQ, or maybe Toronto? My family out in the Vancouver area, and my friends much further north BBQ year round, rain or shine (or snow).
    In the Greater Vancouver Area there are tons of protected forests with hiking paths, I imagine the host mother thought it would be a fun bonding experience, and something she'd remember much more than going to say a movie or fancy restaurant. Absolutely not biased, but we have some beautiful forests here.
