FYI - there is a button under the rear bumper, above the license plate to open the trunk. Also, the cup holders are removable and movable, didn't cover this.
+Everyman Driver There's also apparently hidden storage at the back of the seats. And when you're on the phone, the speakers are just behind your head on the headrest.
+Everyman Driver COMBINE THEM... dont do a first look. ONE video. if you need more than one hit on a video do another video called "spirited drive" where its you doing that and reving etc..
I have been waiting for your in depth review since your meet and greet video. Please don't stop making these or edit them down to 5 minutes or whatever. I find that some of my shorter easier math lessons, or videos that have nothing to do with math, get some of the most views as well. But it is the detailed review, or math lesson in my case, that has the most worth in my opinion. I love your car reviews:D
Hi Dave, imo more people watch Just Arrived video because its the first video of any car you're reviewing and that the short format means most people will be able to finish watching it (people have short attention span). By the time second video (detailed review) of the same car come around, interest has dipped. Detailed reviews are really for folks who are more than just curious about the cars, I always watch all the videos because I'm a car enthusiast and love the detailed reviews! Keep up the good work!
I think most people, that are new to your videos see "FIRST LOOK" or "JUST ARRIVED" videos believe they'll get the entire review in that video, so they check it out. Once they're satisfied with the short snippet of information, they forget to wait until the full review. As for me, I'm not satisfied enough with just two or four minutes of quick coverage, and genuinely love your detailed reviews! Keep it up Dave!
P.S. I just bought this car 2 days ago and I love IT. Reception from strangers on the road is mixed. A few give me a thumbs up, many turn green with envy. I dig it.
Probably because we just like a short look at _all_ the cars coming out, and then we take the time to watch the detailed reviews of the _specific_ cars that we are _personally more_ interested in. Either way, you're awesome and I appreciate your work.
My 2¢ on the Just Arrived videos is pretty simple... First, as others have said, its easy to digest, its a quick once over that gives a decent amount of information and quickly showcases key features, without going overboard. I think many people prefer that kind of quick information. Secondly, and this is my personal feeling on it, the just arrived videos come off as much more natural, and honest. There is a genuine sense of "Oh, that's cool!" to a neat feature. Like when you first popped the soft top on your Miata just arrived video, there was this "Ah-HA!" moment that generated a sense of excitement, and wonderment. Likewise, if a feature is a bit "uh...what were they thinking?" that comes across too. I think what happens, is that sometimes after reading all of the promotional materials, and all of the included media copy, it causes a sanitizing of the vehicle description, and glosses over shortcomings, and overhypes irrelevant features. OF course the manufacturer is only trying to present their vehicle in the best possible light. But I don't want to read that, I want to hear an honest opinion on a vehicles ergonomics, performance, feel, and comfort, which no amount of media copy is ever going to convince me of. I think you still need your in-depth reviews to really showcase the vehicle in an honest light, and to give more well rounded opinions after experiencing it for an extended amount of time. I found this review to be really enjoyable to watch, and informative. The answers came across as your personal opinion and feelings, and not a verbatim spewing of promotional copy. Please do more reviews like this one. :) Hope the feedback helps.
Really depends on the viewer,Dave. While half of us got time to watch your longer videos, half of the people just wanna see a brief introduction regarding the car, but i dont think they hate it at all its just their preference for their short attention span/free-time. Decided to get the same color after watching this. Thanks!
I love the imperfections. It tells the world you are human, gives it character and style all your own. Keeps it from being just a boring, scripted and edited stuff. Plus we know that the emotions you have while driving are real and not acting. I like all your videos. This car looks like it could get me into a lot of trouble if I bought one. :)
Test drive this today and have to say, it is a blast! The electric steering feels a little strange but not a game changer. One negative is the cup holder where he has his water bottle. I kept hitting my arm on it when driving a bit spirited, but it is removable. Loves to rev. I kept hitting the rev limiter at around 6800 rpm. Trunk small, but deep and key is to use soft sided luggage to conform to shape of the trunk. All, in all, very cool and should have one in the garage in spring!
I actually find the detailed review very informative, especially since I am considering different types of vehicles to purchase in the next 6 months. I just don't know which vehicle I will end up with yet. Keep up the good reviews. Thumbs up on the backdrop!
I chose the color of my Miata based on your videos. Keep up the good work, just talk about your impresions on the car, the feel, the hands on experience that we dont have the time to experience in a regular test drive.
Hey Dave you make great videos and honestly I prefer your detailed reviews because they cover more details, I guess people watch your first look reviews because they just want to take a look at the interior, exterior and some features and they are not really that interested about the details such as engine choices, fuel economy and ride and handling. Thanks for all these great videos, I have been your subscriber for 2 years and I really like how you give exact figures and details like the engine names and the volume of trunk spaces, its something other car reviewers don't do and it makes you unique from other car reviewers, I really enjoy all your videos and I hope this channel will continue to grow.
Hey Dave, a thought on the viewership concerns. I think people who are generally interested in cars are checking out the first look videos since they are short but inforative. Your in depth reviews are really nice for people who are enthusiasts or are in the market for a new car. Please keep doing both, as they each fill a different niche.
I don't actually watch vehicle videos, except the Miata. I have watched your videos on the 2016 Miata. I enjoyed your 0-60. I have owned 97 NA (one of the numbered last ones made), a 2003 NB, a 97 M Edition with supercharger and now an 06 NC. I have driven each of them on long trips, I drove them as daily drivers, I drove them on business trips. I love driving the Miata and it is one of the easiest manuals to drive. When I had young kids it was a minivan - but as soon as my daughter was old enough to have a car, I bought a Miata. I am interested in the new version, but all the bells and whistles concern me. I have never had any use for keyless entry or the car telling me when to shift and similar things. I have not decided on whether I want one yet or not.
I like your just arrived videos because it gives me a teaser of your future reviews. It gives me something to look forward to throughout the days until you release the full detail reviews. They are great and keep them up! By the way, I think most people watch the just arrived videos more frequently to either go through the car reviews/overviews at a much faster rate of just because they lack the time to sit down and watch your 10-15+ min videos. I believe that it is great for you to keep pushing out the detailed reviews even though they have less views for the reason being that you give honest reviews and that your videos are a good reference for those wishing to buy the car that you review
I've been watching pretty much all your videos since subscribing a month or two ago except for the truck stuff because those don't interest me. I think you do great work, the videos and copy are professional quality and they're entertaining as well so please keep up the great work. In-depth is my preferred style but the Just In videos are just as cool. My one request would be to add a segment in your detailed videos that covers how infant seats would fit in the back row if it's at all possible. Rear and forward facing from all positions especially rear facing in the middle seat. Not everyone is going to remember to consider that feature when they're buying a vehicle a few years ahead of having kids but with that knowledge it might heavily influence what they purchase and save them the hassle of having to figure out a bad situation when they're down to the wire and have other more important things to stress about. Thanks!
+Everyman Driver There is a trunk release button on the back of the car down to the right of the license plate (it's placed on the underside of the license plate lip...a rubber button similar to the door entry
I drove one yesterday out of curiosity. I then ordered one afterwards. This car is very good and if you've got interest in it I'd say it's worth the purchase.
I got to drive this on a 1/2 track here in atlanta for Mazda's MX-5 Experiences, which was a free open to public event. Im 6'3, i JUST fit in it alright. Top down perfect, top up my head rubs, and if I wanted a perfect angle to see out the window i might have to lean down, but overall not bad. Clutch and brake are very veyr close together, size 14 shoes my foot got caught under the brake peddle a few times when I was shifting. Driving the car was great, its so light and so chuckable around corners its fantastic.
I think people and myself enjoy the just arrived videos because it displays your authenticity and love for the cars. It's like we are both enjoying the car at the same time. #everymandriver
In my opinion, short and sweet does the trick. And that's just what the Just Arrived videos are, they tell you a lot of info but in a quick, entertaining way.
I enjoy both of your reviews. I think the reason why less people watch your detailed videos is because they already seen snippets of that vehicle on your just arrived videos. I would suggest paying attention to when you release the just arrived videos in relation to your detailed videos.
Some don't have a real interest in a vehicle or a first look is enough that they know it's not for them. The people who might potentially buy a vehicle need the longer videos.
ive got the Gran Touring instead of your club package, its a great car and lots of fun! it loves to oversteer and give the back out. keep up the reviews!
I think the more detailed videos consume more time than most viewers want to spend watching. The brief walkarounds hit all the bullet points and highlight the main features. For most people, that's enough. Gearheads like me want more - but I'm in the minority - I think! Love your videos though - keep up the good work
Just a quick thought...I think that possibly after watching your first look videos, people may already decide that they're not interested in that particular vehicle...which may be a reason why your follow up videos aren't getting as much views. Personally, I really like all of your reviews...both your first look and detailed videos. Keep up the good work!
I don't know if someone mentioned this in the comments (and if you read it), but there is a smart key trunk release rubber button (like the one on the door handles) to the right of the license plate illumination bulbs.
I'll tell you why I finally got to watching this video after watching your first video with the selfie stick several weeks ago. It's because I saw that search result first, and didn't directly go to the detailed review, so I forgot about it. Then when I saw the thumbnail for the detailed review in one of my many daily searches (I want to buy this car), I thought that I might have seen it before and then move on to the next new result.
Really appreciated the review you have done going into some of the more everyday ownership details with the car. It's hard to get that information from other reviews, all they do is test drives and tell you how the car rides. But people would get caught out with things like no glovebox if they werent paying attention so things like that are good info.
Hi Dave. I rather enjoy your longer review the automobiles than some of the other ones. Your first look videos I enjoy the "the first look" videos especially if the vehicle catches my interest but overall, I enjoy the longer versions. I've been watching your channel for some time and I enjoy the backdrops (you live in some amazing beautiful country) and how you incorporate what your viewers are asking. I do have a question about the visibility with the top up? Did you feel enclosed and were the blind spots not really noticeable. Also, I did enjoy hearing that deep throttle voice. Keep up the great work!
I like your detailed reviews. I'll add that some of your reviews can sometimes come off as too analytic at times (kind of a salesman type feel.) It would be great to hear more of your subjective point of view on things since alot of people seem to choose vehicles on feel rather than practicality.
Is that ceramic metalic or white pearl? also noticed that you didn't said anything about the bose sound, does it make a big difference with the speakers on the seat?
Dave, a suggestion, talk about the specs in relation to what it can do i.e. hiw much it weights, weight distribution, what wheel drive then talk about what it does for handling and acceleration. How useful the quick operation of the top. Who and what it is meant for. The trim is obviously a Club but not everyone will know that so it would help if you point that out clearly. The stereo need some reviewing too, top up, top down, while driving. Walk around, start up, in depth operation, driving impressions in one video.
I assume that you are driving the Club edition not the GT? I like your detailed driving and views on the car also. Question, would you drive a automatic in this car? In Middle Tennessee, that seems like they are only selling autos if you can get one at all! Also did you know that there is two extra compartments, one behind each seat for storage. Kept up the good work, I love that part of the country, so the backdrop for great. PS: I am 6'2" and can fit in the car fine, a lot better than the NC.
@@thesadboxman Yes , its basically the Club model I bought in 2016. It also adds a Limited Slip Differential / a front sway bar / Bilstein shocks / those ground effect trim pieces. I bought the Brembo / BBS package too but didn't pay anywhere near MSRP ! Those BBS wheels are 2 pounds lighter / wheel. The Brembo brakes are really nice if your driving aggressively ... no fade like the stock ones.
The way I see it , your first impression vids gives people some info , so when you do the full detailed video , they probably figure you will be covering much of the same with only a little more content and don't want to bother watching something they've already seen... Just do the detailed vid and see if your audience increases... Hope I made some sense there ...lol :)
to answer your question: 1. just arrived is more likely to show up in a feed than the review 2. the just arrived videos give a preview of the car to see if someone is even interested in a detailed review.
I don't like really long reviews. Depending on the vehicle, a quick review like this is sufficient. If the vehicle has a lot of features, then additional videos make sense.
It's because when you post "Just Arrived" videos, you're one of the first to post about the car among others. And by the time you post an in-depth review, other youtubers have already done it.
Really appreciate the quality of your reviews. I was wondering on speciality auto's like the Miata, Wrangler, etc if you could provide some feedback on what a future owner will feel towards his/her purchase six months, etc down the road. For example, if you research Wrangler's on Auto Trader there are numerous 2015 with a 1000 miles or less. Which tells me certain cars/trucks have a higher buyers remorse rate. Thank you again!
Glad to know that my size would fit well with this car (I'm 5'11 -ish). However, how about when you're controlling the infotainment knob? If you have a water bottle in the cup holder behind your elbow, would it get in the way?
All honesty, stick to both! Do your just arrived reviews, as well as your detailed reviews. People like to have that option. It might be a little more work but in the end the fruit (number of subscribers) is so much sweeter. Besides, I like both. The shorter reviews give just enough info for people to get a quick look as well as get a pretty good idea of the car. For those who are more serious in buying a car would look at your in depth reviews to get more information and more video time to look at each vehicle. Well that's how I see this little conundrum.
I like the first arrived maybe a bit more in some ways because its your first impressions, its more flying by the seat of you pants. Much like how Matt Farah does his One Takes. I like detailed reviews but unscripted first experiences feel more genuine , and you get a better feel of how someone feels about a car cause they mention anything that they like or hate right off the bat.
For me I love Miatas/Vipers/Lotus's/Fr-s Brz, WRX. So if i see a new video on any of the cars that i love, i watch the video. I have been waiting on your detailed review on the miata. So if i love the car and someone has made a review I WATCH IT :)
I'm about 5 years late, I know. But I'm looking to buy this car when I turn about 17 ish, I'm almost 15 as of right now, and I plan on working until I can afford this car (And after of course). Do you recommend?
Why the 4th generation of miata's don't have dual exhaust? And why they still using antenna rod in the back? Can't they just integrate somewhere?? Is it so expensive to get rid of it??
yes, we need the detailed reviews. I think the less views might be as obviously they are coming later + sometimes people might be disregarding them as a repetition. they are obviously more useful! !
With the windshield moved back does it still feel open with the top down, or not so much as with previous generations? It looks like your head would be close to the top part of the windshield's frame not giving you that feeling of openness you would get with a windshield that is more vertical or placed furthest away from the driver.
Dave, have you ever considered taking a performance driving course or lessons? I think it might enhance your reviews of the sportier cars. Like some one else mentioned below, I think. I believe most people watch the "First Arrived" videos to see if they are interested in the car. And if they are they find the detailred review and watch that as well. I watch pretty much all of your videos, lol.
He doesn't skip leg day.
FYI - there is a button under the rear bumper, above the license plate to open the trunk. Also, the cup holders are removable and movable, didn't cover this.
+Joshua Ebersole Thank you for the added information! Now the review is complete :-)

+xAgent J did you take delivery? How do you rate the steering? Peddle placement?
+xAgent J so how you like it? i come from lineage of Honda S2000 and lotus exige...does the mx5 fit in this group besides lacking a bit in power?

I greatly enjoyed this in depth video! I also like how responsive you are and how you make your video around our requests. Great Job!
Good review. You answered almost all the essential questions that potential Miata buyers have.
I drove one yesterday out of curiosity. I then ordered one afterwards. This car is very good and if you've got interest in it I'd say it's worth the purchase.
Just saw one of these in person. Can't get one soon enough.
Love the full reviews.. They are the perfect accompaniment to the just-arrived videos. Keep up the great work!!

I think people and myself enjoy the just arrived videos because it displays your authenticity and love for the cars. It's like we are both enjoying the car at the same time. #everymandriver
In my opinion, short and sweet does the trick. And that's just what the Just Arrived videos are, they tell you a lot of info but in a quick, entertaining way.
if it can help you, the button to release the truck from the back, is located right above the license plate ligth ;)
I enjoy both of your reviews. I think the reason why less people watch your detailed videos is because they already seen snippets of that vehicle on your just arrived videos. I would suggest paying attention to when you release the just arrived videos in relation to your detailed videos.
Great work, I watch all your shows. Keep it going. Thumbs up.
Some don't have a real interest in a vehicle or a first look is enough that they know it's not for them. The people who might potentially buy a vehicle need the longer videos.

Good review. Very professional. I also like how you focus on the aspects that many reviewers overlook. You earned a new subscriber.

I enjoy your reviews and your first looks. Keep 'em coming!
I gave you a thumbs up for the backdrop. Cause you asked.
+MarMar88 Right on!
Spokane!! I live just on the other side of Rutter parkway!! Cool to see you driving that car around here!! Such a fun road to drive

I prefer your detailed review but only for those cars I'm gravitating to. For short review, I just watch them all when I have free time.
I'll tell you why I finally got to watching this video after watching your first video with the selfie stick several weeks ago.
Calf routine?
+thatfeel Soccer or cycling.
I like the more detailed information I watch all of your videos on your channel
You can pop the trunk open with the trunk button right under the bumper, above the license plate.
Btw, I'm subbed. I have always enjoyed your reviews.
+Michael Yarber Pretty sure it's the club version with the front splitter and cloth seats.
Great review, Dave! I was curious about the fit - I'm basically your size. You sealed the deal for me! Thanks
I like the Every Which Way But Loose reference. "Left turn Clyde".
Please continue your in-depth detailed videos. More detail the better.
Amazing energy you have sir!
Great review also!!
I really like your in-depth reviews! Maybe you should just do these instead of the "Just Arrived" videos?
Dave, you should combine the style of the new arrived and detailed review and get you own style. Easy.
to answer your question:
1. just arrived is more likely to show up in a feed than the review
2. the just arrived videos give a preview of the car to see if someone is even interested in a detailed review.
People can be so negative. I think your videos are great; Both the Reviews and First Look. Keep it up! :)
Such a good Review, with nice informations !
Greets from Austria :)
My vote is for the detailed review. Good job.
DAT CALF THO
Glad to know that my size would fit well with this car (I'm 5'11 -ish). However, how about when you're controlling the infotainment knob? If you have a water bottle in the cup holder behind your elbow, would it get in the way?
I watch every video! Keep up the good work!
I've always hated Mazda for not making a coupe version of this car!
I think you should do both the quick drive and the detailed reviews.
I'm about 5 years late, I know. But I'm looking to buy this car when I turn about 17 ish, I'm almost 15 as of right now, and I plan on working until I can afford this car (And after of course). Do you recommend?
good review got mine a few weeks ago its a sweet ride
I think longterm the detailed reviews will get more views, that's where the substance is
Hell yeah, more just arrived videos
How'd you like the Bose system? Seems weird having speakers in your head lol
Why the 4th generation of miata's don't have dual exhaust? And why they still using antenna rod in the back? Can't they just integrate somewhere?? Is it so expensive to get rid of it??
Dave, what's in your garage?
yes, we need the detailed reviews.
PS: I prefer full reviews over just arrived videos

Dave, have you ever considered taking a performance driving course or lessons? I think it might enhance your reviews of the sportier cars.
Like some one else mentioned below, I think. I believe most people watch the "First Arrived" videos to see if they are interested in the car. And if they are they find the detailred review and watch that as well. I watch pretty much all of your videos, lol.
i want to see the color of the engine oil and trans fluid. pull the dipstick out!!! also show us the brake pads after a hard run downhill...
To me it would seem like with the color the car is, it would always seem like it is a little dirty i would go with white. great review 👍
Can this car's trunk fit a full size golf bag with all the clubs and driver in it?
I like the detailed reviews.
