No other country could stage an unforgettable, unmatched, and unbeatable Opening Ceremony than its Original Birth Country in Greece. The artistic section reminded us that Greece gave birth to human knowledge such as Math, Sciences, Sculpture, and the beauty of the human body.
This should had been Athens 1996 instead of Atlanta 1996, which is totally forgettable despite being the Centennial Games.

That said, it's clear that Athens were trying a legitimate artistic response to Sydney, which had in turn been responding to Atlanta 1996 in terms of scale and popular showmanship. Beijing 2008 returned to large scale (following complaints from spectators in the Athens stadium that performances by two playful lovers, one pregnant woman etc., were almost invisible from the upper rows of seating) but maintained the Athens approach of artistic beauty and ambition.

These 10 minutes were meant to be 10 minutes of fascinating, beautiful television. But did you know that, after the pregnant woman stepped down to the floor at the end, all performers stopped and the procession lighting was turned off, so most paying spectators in the stadium saw the procession only on television?
