Truly enjoyed your video and your team work. The RR Classic with coils and solid axles performance makes one question why they stopped building it. I'm still puzzled why you chose "Snow" mode when lower gearing is what you really wanted? As Eric showed us, 2nd gear, low range and go as slow as possible and as fast as necessary. Thanks again!
Yeah, I forced it down manually, is just starts in third when you have it in auto. 👍 But you can see me keep forgetting after being out of the car so I have to change down a bunch of times. The throttle response is cut in half when using snow mode so on these rocky sections on the entrytrack it’s perfect. Changed into rock crawl to get full lockup on the center diff when I started up the tricky part. And mostly first gear. 😊 That’s why you can hear the car revs juggle up the rocky sections. 😊 Glad you liked the video and we do have a lot of fun when we head out, and we do know each other well so the communication is effortless. 👍😊
Well they did build it through 25 years. And basicly a bit longer as wheelbase, chassis/suspension and engine is the same on the original Discovery that ended production in 1998. 👍😊

Cool tracks and great video guys. I have driven RR classics in offroad in both manual and auto V8 and a 200Tdi manual. Nothing beats the V8 auto offroad is my experience 👍🏻
@@LandRoverDrive I totally agree. I have a 1989 3.5ltr V8 auto and the "creamy" torque delivery of the old V8 makes it far better off road than a turbo diesel.
I thought it was the right thing to do as it was so much work to get it fixed and I wanted to be out overlanding and not stuck in the garage welding rust. 😅 I wouldn’t have sold it today, would have kept it and waited for when I got the time I think. But the positive side is that I’m open to get a different old car, almost bought one some days ago. If you see the community page you can see which one. 😊
Before going off-road: detach the plow :D And try to be more patient and insistent, as you stated yourself. More steady on the gas, let the TC kick it more often and do its job. Nevertheless, wet/muddy rocks are the worst besides (wet) grass. But isn't it wonderful to do all that stuff and have the most comfortable drive home of all of them? I love my LR3.
Hehehe, I need to address the plow, wouldn’t feel so much as a tractor though. 😂😂 I was a bit rusty when it came to driving off-road and looking back while editing I can only guess I was a bit impatient. 😊 Need to get out and test it more, will try and do a winter test this winter. 👍 And I couldn’t agree more, in Norway we got so much tarmac so doing the transport stages is a dream in the D3. 👌 It will never be sold, only scrapped. 🤙
Hey and thank you! 👍😊 Don’t remember at the moment but will come back to you. If you watch the episode before this one it is shown on screen in the video. 😉 Maybe Erik will see and answer too. 👍
Thank you@@erikiversen4497 I really like the height and tyres on your classic. I want to do the same on my 84 classic. I appreciate you sharing your measurements.
I realy enjoyed the video. Your enthusiasm is inspiring. Btw. are there any modification on the Erics RRC like hight or diferential lockers and what tires is he driving on at what dimensions. I hope that you will make more videos like this one. Wish you all the best.
@aleksandaradler3194 Hey and thank you so much! Erik's RRC is not modified that I know of, I think he put on new springs but don't think there was a lift set, but I do think it raised it a bit just because the springs were a bit stiffer. Other than that it's stock as can be, no lockers or nothing. He has been driving offroad with his Cooper Tire STT PRO, mud-terrains that has proven them selfs in both in deep snow and mud. If you check out the older winter videos you can see how that went. 👍 The tires are 215/85R16 - We don't recommend them for winter use, only in deep snow off-road. 😉 Do you have an RRC your self or just very interested in them? Best, Simon
Excellent video and excellent team work. Really made me smile all the way around and so good to see how the vehicles need to operate differently with the D3 needing a little power to let the traction control system know it needs to kick in and the classic springs clicking like a mechanical monster around the track. Love the sympathetic approach to the track too. It's easy to just gun it and take your chances but you both did a great job and earned that cold beer for sure 😄👍😁 I need to come there one day😁
You definitely need to come and test it out! What could possible go wrong. 😂 Glad the video was entertaining, trying to up the entertainment level as I make more videos forward so good that it's noticed. 👍 We always drive like we love our cars, and taking some extra time and driving slow is what we have found works for us. That's why we like this track so much, it's very challenging but in a technical way and not in a deep muddy way. 😊 Thanks for a great comment Simon, appreciate it. Yours, the other Simon. 😉
@@LandRoverDrive Yup, Rock Crawl also has the most aggressive traction control too. It's very prominent on my Defender too even though I have the active rear locking diff. 👍
@@hege750 Okay, didn’t know that it also affected the TC, learned something new today as well, thanks. But that’s logical, but haven’t really thought about it the way. 🤓 I would love a rear locking diff for this kind of driving but I’m mostly going overlanding so can’t really justify the cost.
I would like to visit that place . But only with army boots and a water bottle . Too hard for me . Did you know there is a track near RUDSKOGEN racingtrack ?
Hey Jostein and that sounds like a great day to me.! There is a lot of other cars driving around so good fun to watch. I know there is a track there and other places and they are on the "todrive" list. 😊 Just need to get around to driving them all. Have you been to Rudskogen, is it a good track?
A couple of questions. what is the factory engine torque specs. peak, and at what rpm. of both the discovery, and the classic? would be keen to see how each is using the power at low speed. My guess is the classic has more low speed torque and also a lower final drive ratio. Also can you tell us what the min. and max elevation at the park is? Thank you. Great video. looks like you guys had a lot of fun. and gained knowledge of what each vehicle is capable of.
That would be very interesting, will get back to you on that. 👍😊 Max elevation is nothing to mention, just a small park. We had a lot of fun and we will have to go back again soon. 👍😊
Traction control is there purely to make up for less suspension travel AND LR reluctance to fit axle locks. The latest cars, optimised for road use, would be abysmal without TC. Off road, old school make continuous progress, whereas the current cars, spin wheels, stop, think about it, apply TC, move a bit, spin, repeat. I prefer old school, not the modern Luxobarge stuff which need so many computers to do an inferior job off road
I also prefer the old school off-road but I find the Discovery being a perfect middle way, good off-road and amazing for overlanding and as a family car. 👍😊 You got a rear locker on the D3, but it’s an optional extra. Mine is sadly without, but since I primarily go overlanding it will do without. 👍 But I will be looking into a old school 4x4, and a old Classic is high on the list. 😉
Do I see a custom centre console / cubby box in Erik's range rover? neat solution! Would he be open to sharing any pictures/diagrams in exchange for coffee/beer money? 😉
That is much correct, not sure if Erik has some drawings but I will get him on here, he usually very happy to share anything he knows about LR’s and builds. 👍😊 Simon

Hey and sorry for that, we don’t do it on purpose and there is no meaning in it from our part. I think it’s just a lack of English vocabulary and nothing else. 😊 I thought about cutting it out from the video but felt it took away from the feeling that were had during the drive. Great video really enjoy this content 😎👍 liked and subscribed!
Thanks man! 👍😊 You just made my day. Getting comments like this is what gets me going on making more videos. 🤙
@@LandRoverDrive same here buddy we’re all in the 4x4 community from a creator like me to you your doing good!! I love having a mix up of vehicles on my vids too!! 😎👍
Cool tracks and great video guys. I have driven RR classics in offroad in both manual and auto V8 and a 200Tdi manual. Nothing beats the V8 auto offroad is my experience 👍🏻
Okay, V8 auto you say, so that’s what I need to get, a 4-door auto 🤔 Thanks for sharing your experiences Robert! 👍
@@LandRoverDrive I totally agree. I have a 1989 3.5ltr V8 auto and the "creamy" torque delivery of the old V8 makes it far better off road than a turbo diesel.
I almost bought and V8 auto last year, but I was just minutes to late...
Why did you sell the Land Rover Defender?
I thought it was the right thing to do as it was so much work to get it fixed and I wanted to be out overlanding and not stuck in the garage welding rust. 😅 I wouldn’t have sold it today, would have kept it and waited for when I got the time I think. But the positive side is that I’m open to get a different old car, almost bought one some days ago. If you see the community page you can see which one. 😊
Great overlanding !
Is it front diff or the central differential clunking on the Erik's Range ? I have the same noise on mine :)
Not sure, I think it’s the whole driveline. 😂 And the sum of it al makes it a bit loose. 😅 But Erik maybe knows better.
@@LandRoverDrive Thanks !
RR Classic did an amazing job given the fact it has none of that fancy tech like air suspension or traction control.
Yeah, and it’s from the 10ths 😊😊 I still get amazed by how good it is and one of the reasons why I really want one for my self. 👌😊
Before going off-road: detach the plow :D
And try to be more patient and insistent, as you stated yourself.
I was a bit rusty when it came to driving off-road and looking back while editing I can only guess I was a bit impatient. 😊 Need to get out and test it more, will try and do a winter test this winter. 👍
And I couldn’t agree more, in Norway we got so much tarmac so doing the transport stages is a dream in the D3. 👌 It will never be sold, only scrapped. 🤙
Great video, very funny and interesting, great cars and drivers!!! the range rover's tires are non original? what kind of mesure are?
Hey and thank you! 👍😊 Don’t remember at the moment but will come back to you. If you watch the episode before this one it is shown on screen in the video. 😉 Maybe Erik will see and answer too. 👍
@@LandRoverDrive215/85R16. About a 31 inch tire. Cooper STT PRO 👍😊
Thank you@@erikiversen4497 I really like the height and tyres on your classic. I want to do the same on my 84 classic. I appreciate you sharing your measurements.
@@gabrielfalzon best looking tire size ever 😊👍

Hmm was the Disco in Rock Crawl mode during the tricky parts?
Yeah, was using rock crawl at some stages to get the center diff to keep the lockup. 👍😊
👍💯
That's my next 55 mins sorted 😊
🤙😊 Hope you enjoy them.
👍😊 Simon
Not just the darian gap but chaple gate stanage edge hollingsclough tenterhill gatsgarth pass wal na scar road and others in my mind and what I've driven its unbeatable is the range rover classic with the auto box
Would love to do Iceland in my own RRC at some point.
And I would like to see you do iceland also hopefully soon I will start getting vids up 3 a wk for 3 yrs of uk including norweigns I tuck over chaple gate and stanage edge
Thanks, UK is also on the top of the list. It may look like next year will be the year. 😊
You should take your tow hook off mate.
I know and I joke about it being my rear off-road protection but in reality it’s stuck on there. 😅 It’s on the todo list. 😊 Was going to take of the rear mudflaps as well but forgot and one broke. Another thing on the todo’s. 👌
If I can get 2 more extra free weeks this summer I’m coming to Norway and hopefully will do some tracks together.
Norway is worth two weeks and more. 🏔️🇳🇴😊 Just don’t go when the common Norwegian vacation is. So many people on the popular spots. 😊
Likes the content but really dislikes the blasphemy
Hey and sorry for that, we don’t do it on purpose and there is no meaning in it from our part. I think it’s just a lack of English vocabulary and nothing else. 😊 I thought about cutting it out from the video but felt it took away from the feeling that were had during the drive. Again, sorry, and we will do our best to not do it again. 😊 Simon
Hi Simon, thanks for the reply. I really appretiate it. Have a lovely day further!@@LandRoverDrive
@@retiefstrydom257 Thank you and thank you letting us know. 👍 Wish you the best, Simon
Fin video, men ta av hengerfeste på D3’n neste gang 😂
Hahah, det er jo off-road-beskyttelsen min bak. 😂 Spare plastikken. Også sitter den godt fast. 😅
Ya just as I thought the classic definitely won hands down and a auto is even better
I heard about the auto from Robert, I almost bought one, but it got sold minutes after it was published. 1985 4-door auto. 👌
You say your thinking about heading to the uk i would not bother chaple gate shut rouch clough shut stanage edge shut tenterhill holingsclough shut plus 20 000 other lanes in the uk ( we do have some very boting green lanes its not worth the transportation here at all
Okay, are they cracking down on off-roading over there?
We call it greenlaning i was glass rep and we drive what are badly maintaited highways all them 2 parts only of uk worth going to northumberland and wales and its borders (glass website )
👍😊
That 2.5 tonn of discovery is far too heavy and its agile at all
It's heavy, for comp like events, but for overlanding it is one of the best options out there. 👌
My driveway is rougher than that
😂😂 Do you need to get up extra early to get to work then?
