Omg I actually am IN this video at 17:18 lol, that was when we went to the kbd on the last day of RSC. My username then was Presty but now it's Prestie (I never abused bugs or botted in RSC at all, legit player since 03) I also have an extensive knowledge of RSC if you ever have any questions at all for any future vids like this. Wish I saw this sooner!
I call bullshit that he never took ONE screenshot of his bank at some point, especially if he made a video of himself to prove that it happened. He sold that shit for real cash. Props to these dudes.
Software Engineer here. Just wanted to say PID is actually process ID. It is very common on most systems. It is used to keep track of all the programs. scripts, and processes running on your computer.
Watching this video is a trip, I played rsc for a couple months before it closed and actually met both Zephyr and Kristof ingame on separate occasions and they were both cool guys
I was a big trader of rares in varrock castle back in RSC. Inside the castle on the second floor, I once seen someone who had no clipped into the black abyss on the outside of the walls. He told me to go to the prayer guild upstairs and we would be able to trade through the window. He was absolutely right. I left varrock castle and walked to monastery, went upstairs and he was waiting there in the black abyss outside the walls. We were able to trade and he told me how to no clip but it was only ever able to work on the second floor of the entire world map. It cost me a santa hat. True story. Got loads more, wish i had my screenshots still smh.
I started playing Rs In May of 2001 and played off and on until It was shut down. I was one of only a handful of people with 99 smithing, mining and mage on classic. I never botted.
I applaud these men. I have been playing for almost 20 years now and NOTHING is more despicable than botting, much less showing off your botting with pride. Bots are the exact reason i didn't enjoy RSC.
I remember reading an article saying they where allowed to work/matence on classic on their off time. You've got to remember that it was a very old game and very old code that most of the team probably had no idea how it worked without sitting there for days going over it. I've also read that the community submitted ways to fix bugs but Jagex did nothing.
@@GrumpyIan Rsc is an example of a company intentionally sabotaging their own product to get people to play the new game. You see this on console games too. Cheaters allowed to play rampantly so regular people will buy the new games.
Great video, I think the longer format is better imo. This video was very informative and fun to watch. I knew nothing about classic but this video did a great job telling be all about it so I could better understand the importance of this bug.
I maybe missed it I get how it exploits the PID but did they have to monitor the bot logging in and out to time it? That seems like it takes a bit of skill God dang
The rsc botting clients go to a point where you could see another plays PID. People would make scripts to login and out for hours until they had a low PID. If you had a PID of 5, only 5 others would have catch on you in the wild (PID 0,1,2,3,4)
Spectrek is a very nice guy, he hooked me up with full rune and a dragon battle axe on RSC just because he knew I was a legit player. That type of generosity is far too rare.
he botted and RWT'ed so much that those items were useless to him. if you want to know more about who he really was, just ask around the rsc community about Jared.
Interesting stuff, I think this may be the same Zephyr I have on my friends list. I don’t add many randoms so he must of been a nice/helpful guy for me to add him.
Mod Ash said that on RSC jmods couldn't even figure out how to work the mod tools, and the games integrity was at check. This was really probably the reason why, bugs like this come out. I miss RSC I used to play it all the time, but things like this are the reason why it had to close.
There were some of us in the community that had fixes for the code, and submitted them to JamFlex, and they didn't spend 5 minutes to even review it. I think it came down to the same thing that happened with DarkScape, they didn't want to pay someone to keep developing it.
Grumpy Ian nope they genuinely couldn't work on it. Like the guy above said, I knew guys who could fix it who wrote code and everything, Jagex dismissed it like they had no idea what they were doing. It's a shame classic was an actual decent game
I always love these videos from you. It is amazing to find out different approach to the game. In my opinion, abusing bots felt like robin hood to me. Although they are doing something that is considered wrong, it could also be said that they did that for the goods. I'd consider them as heroes who fought bots scripting in their good faith of the game.
The last several years of classic were insane. You could literally bot 24/7. There was no having to re-log back in every 6 hours or whatever. I was so confident I wouldnt get banned I even botted on my main account. I remember one time turning the bot on and going to the beach for a week. I came back and it was still going strong lol. Had a red phat on it too which I thought was pretty cool
I was an oldschool RSC player from 2002 onwards, again took a break after mass ban, When i came back the game was so heavily botted the only way to match players was to bot also, But an amazing game i have so many fond memories of, rip RSC forever
This is not a contributing factor to the reason RSC was closed. Jagex mods did not know about this bug. They couldn't even figure out their own broken mod tools. If they knew about it, they would have banned zephyr. They closed it for purely financial reasons.
I don't think he is saying that this bug specifically was a reason, but that bug abuse in general made the game unplayable. And when there is no point to grind in a game like RSC, people stop playing. So yes, financial because too few players were playing, and it cost too much to support the game.

Mr. Rider is my hero
If Jagex host a broken game and don't want to deal with it. If only bots are targeted. Then all to the clever people for making money off it. I hope they made stacks of money because they were moral about it and considering the fact that Jagex abandoned the game while still hosting it. It kinda makes it seem like go for it, you are not doing anything illegal since the game is abandoned. Clever people
