The people at the local charity shop probably think Bill is the worst father ever - "Can't he buy his children one new toy? Or at least one that's not broken and full of teeth marks?" "Maybe he's poor, like so poor he can't afford balsa wood even." "Pity. Maybe we should take a collection and get his children something?" "No, this isn't the Christmas episode." "I wonder if he has a cat?"
Just gonna list a few things I liked or noticed while watching: 00:56 that zipper-mouthed tree topper... who is he? 10:30 why do I even bother doing partial brick montages... bravo to your full load 16:17 I am deeply intrigued by gravy granules 17:30 tin foil timelapse 🏆 I enjoyed your biggest lore dump you've ever taken on screen, learning about inselbergs, and of course this visual feast of a build
🎶It is beginning to look a lot like Beadmas, Everywhere Bill goes If you are looking for two big beads, I hope they're not what you needs, 'cause Bill has stuck them up his nose 🎶 If you roll the silver foil over the EVA Foam before cutting it up, you might find it a bit easier. The build, the animation, the sound effects, the narration, the cat; they are all absolutely wonderful.
I teach a junior high/high school art class and i introduced them to your videos and they all loved them and we dance along to the music ☺️ can’t wait to see more of the awesome stuff you create!!
Bill's Story Time is the highlight of every episode for me and has inspired me to pick up a little sketchbook of my own. Also I love Respite but I gotta say I'm rooting for The Rusters in this one.
Wow! Another amazing build. The best thing about your channel is that every video is different and what you can create from household junk you have lying around.
This video makes me really grateful for being able to breath out my nose. Also never stop your montages, we love them! Fantastic video/build as always Bill, I really enjoyed the lore bit during the painting! I don't envy you gluing all those bricks on, but the end result was well worth it!
Thanks for making this one, Bill - sorry you have been under the weather. Around here, that cold lasted 3 weeks to a month, wasn't the 'worst' one, but it sure stuck around... extra "likes" awarded for using the word dilapidated (Today's word is "DEE-LAPIDATED"...) Your show has just become "educational" by doing so. NEAT building! Maybe you should craft up some Respite Ale, maybe an IPA...home brew... Wow, a possible second "holiday-time" episode? Exciting! :D Hi, Cat. xoxox -Volt
I'd call you creative. And because of that a creative tip for the corners of your cardboard builds: cladding. Just take your favorite cereal box or some other thin cardboard and glue a stripe around your corners. Voila! Every odd seam or corrugated corner is well hidden. PS: I LOVE Respite. These Buildings are on point!
"Now this thing is an old cartridge for some sort of firearm, sent to me by an American. Ah, bit of a cliche." As an American that seems oddly appropriate. Really enjoying the builds for this fictional little scarp town. Scatter terrain would be really cool, or some small huts left over from the Rusters that they lived in once. You should check out the game Forbidden Psalm: The Last War if you like some ramshackle post apocalyptic fun.
You can get XPS foam from B&Q or Wickes etc. 6mm foam is usually used for under floor insulation, and thicker foam is used for roofing insulation ("Kingspan" or "Celotex" is the branded kind with foil glued on - you just need to peel off the foil to use a hot wire). Just head out to the scary warehouse part of the big DIY store, you'll find it all in the racking in 4"x8" sheets - alternatively click and collect! If your local doesn't carry it, order in bulk online to maximise value on postage!
Man, I am working creating my own little channel and you are a huge inspiration. I am sure my production value will be far less, but I'll do my best. The thoughtfulness you put into the lore and the design combined with the snark and humor strikes an excellent balance. Thanks for letting us share in your creations!
I constenly find myself trying to upvote your videos after I've already upvoted it, due to your content, editing, and comments man. Pure gold Bill, love you stuff.
Have to say Bill you have been such an influence for me to get back into miniature gaming and making terrain and scenery. I like you am a fellow rust fan, IN RUST WE TRUST! I use to play Nurgle 40k, and every one of my little dudes was unique and individual, covered in rust,.pus, open sores.. As someone who has a healthy imaginaation that army was excellent to collect. Tonnes of kit bashing and green stuff. I became v good at painting rust. So I am kinda drawn to your channel. Thank you Bill, genuinely. Thank you for giving me back something I love.
This came out pretty bad ass! You're definitely a master of trash. The video too was really well put together and despite your hatred of painting the results are impressive. I always get ideas when I watch your videos. Very well done man. Sausages! : ) The lore is also so much fun.
FYI, kingspan is an insulation board sold in all builders' merchants. Comes in many different thickness, just peel the foil from the front and you have a very usable XPS foam.
This is such an epic build, I absolutely love it and love the lore that you did whilst doing such a superb paint job. I'm planning to become a patron just as soon as I get paid. One of my favourite YT channels.
A masterful build, sir. I am in the US and have access to the cheap, peelable dollar store (4.7mm) foam core board, which has become my go-to material for tabletop gaming structures, but I have recently turned to 100% trash builds for my terrain, using corrugated cardboard as a substrate for the buildings. I find that laminating two layers of corrugated cardboard together with the flutes PERPENDICULAR to one another using copious amounts of hot glue can create surprisingly sturdy walls, roofs, and floors for tabletop buildings. I then join the pieces together at right angles using more hot glue and butt joints with the layers connecting in a herringbone pattern for crisp corners and superior strength. They have a touch of flex without feeling wobbly or flimsy, and durability and warp resistance are good. Keep up the fine work, and merry Christmas…
Very inspiring build. Since watching this video this morning I have glued a toilet roll tube inside another toilet roll tube. I think the natural progressions will be to start my own YT channel now.
Looks fantastic Bill. I'd read any story or lore you'd write. Rustbite (or Rustbyte?) looks like a great setting for the beginning of a grand adventure!
Bill you're a legend to us all. I love seeing stuff you make! It's also kinda bonkers that you make a living putting trash together in your attic and we watch and Pau you to do it! Keep it up we love you!
Never apologize for bricks, rivets, or animation 😊 I love that Bill Making Stuff is more than just making the awesome builds, but also making the top notch videos, making a new world, a great story, and a fun community. The progression of the painting and story telling brought this Inn to life, so cool to watch!
I almost always forget to "like" good videos, but whenever those rivet or brick montages roll, I always remember "Oh yeah, a TON of work goes into these videos, better hit that 'like' button!" The high production value is greatly appreciated! :)
Gotta say this is the first video of yours I have seen and I just know that I’m gonna love all of your stuff. I love the silliness in the video and the build just has so much flavor. Gonna definitely have to pull inspiration for some terrain in my games.
SLAP ME IMPRESSED! That was worth the wait. Just brilliantly done, and filmed. I love the sketching bit at the beginning too. Would you consider making some people and robots to add to the buoldings. Postmaster, innkeeper etc. Thanks Bill for a wonderful video.😆
I always look forward to another awesome build & performance by cat, and I guess Bill helped a bit. Might be able to kill 2 stones with 1 bird with some "christmas" themed scatter terrain! Maybe the colonists have their own version of a holiday like "Rustmas" or something with a much better name than that, with metal trees decorated with even more metal bits, or wooden crates that say "Do not open until Rustmas" which would also make for good all-year pieces. Love ya, Bill! Keep it up man.
Beautiful stuff! Also have a rotten cold at the moment, so I feel your pain Bill, get well soon! Loved the plus sized lore dump and awesome to see you expanding Respite both in project and premise.
This build turned out awesome. I love to see the town of Respite grow and love to hear the expanded planetary lore. Great addition to a table that would be loads of fun to play Stargrave on.
I can watch your "Town of Respite" videos on a loop, they are that entertaining to me. Also provided some motivation towards my "Shantystacks" town project for This is Not a Test.
hey!! hello, i think ive never commented before but i would LOOOVE to see a sketchbook tour, i think all of your creations are fantastic and also i cant help but notice how cool are your drawings too!!! Btw, i love how you edit and also your work place, everything is just so artsy
If YT were just for hobby stuff and there was something like a video of a year poll --- yea, this would win. And you would win it every year in the future. If this was a good planet with reasonable people I mean.
I would love to play a DnD game set in your world accompanied by your scrap build tabletop sets! The lore definitely makes it stand out and it looks awesome!
You know I get the feeling that quite a few people would love to paint some of your stuff, but at the same time I think that you're actually proud to get everything done yourself from start to finish, painting included. In a related note, as you ostensibly dislike painting, I think you may like the guy from "cut, transform, glue"'s channel: he's made a simple but great looking method for paint chipping. Not quite as rusty and dilapidated, but still nice (and he makes insane builds, too). Cheers
I get a big fuzzy blanket, my bunny slippers, and a cup of cocoa and cozy down for Billy's Story Time. That's some dark lore there. Your world building is one of my favorite parts of the show :) Does Respite have other civil amenities? A firehouse? A YMCA? Some sus secret society clubhouse?
God I love your videos! This has got me thinking about ideas for Ruster terrain with buildings on wheels built entirely of scrap from the junk mountain.
The lore dump was awesome. Absolutely love the world building. And what a cool building. Amazing work. You're videos are the best. I dont care what they say.
Watching all your episodes you developing the story behind the junk planet is like watching a scifi crafting series. I already feel like a member of the Respire community, like a citizen of that junk town. It's feels comfy and peaceful like comming home after watching other crafting vids.

You should do more pet murder and taxidermy. I would pay so much to see that.
Bill: "..if you're into steampunk.. you weirdo."
Also Bill: "I make my own rivets."
Lol
FYI those were my best pair of underwear. Some people are so unappreciative 🤦🏻♀️
You know they were sent used up when he knows they were his best pair 😂

I always appreciate the world building that you do while painting.
Your stuff just oozes character, I love how much imagination you put into it before you build.
The ooze is unintentional, I think he has a leak somewhere
With the sound of his voice, more than his stuff might be oozing character.
Luv ya Bill, one of your bests.
That's not ooze, it's an oil wash.
The people at the local charity shop probably think Bill is the worst father ever -

"No, this isn't the Christmas episode."
"I wonder if he has a cat?"
HUGELY underrated comment. 👏👏👏
I bet if he has a cat, it’s poorly fed.
Just gonna list a few things I liked or noticed while watching:

I enjoyed your biggest lore dump you've ever taken on screen, learning about inselbergs, and of course this visual feast of a build
I'll bring you some gravy granules over. Thanks for taking the full load!
I am glad someone else noticed and was clueless about gravy granules
Love watching your creations come to life.
I could watch an infinite amount of videos of Bill just drawing and painting the drawings
For someone who's says he doesn't enjoy painting, your stuff certainly comes out looking boss. Cracking stuff.
Just as I'm looking for something to watch, up pop's Cat, watching his staff making stuff! Get well soon dude.

2:47 Bulldog clips to hold open your sketchbook? That's brilliant! I am going to start doing that too. Thanks for improving my life Bill. 🙂
Bill's Story Time is the highlight of every episode for me and has inspired me to pick up a little sketchbook of my own.
Also I love Respite but I gotta say I'm rooting for The Rusters in this one.

Fantastic build, When will you be writing and illustrating the RPG book for your setting?
Obsessed with the sound design in your videos! That brick montage rocked must’ve taken a while to do but so satisfying!
This is such an epic build, I absolutely love it and love the lore that you did whilst doing such a superb paint job. I'm planning to become a patron just as soon as I get paid. One of my favourite YT channels.

Those spiked wheel tracers are used in sewing to transfer patterns on to fabric too.

I’ve watched this video multiple times. Fantastic build. Love the lore. I really like the unfolding narrative. Very cool.
Get better soon!
Insane build + love the lore, we need bigger dumps of lore in the painting part
Big Bill's big build takes a big time.
Get well soon!
Brilliant

Best build yet
A residential building with interior would be cool. Put some mini inside and with a removable roof.
I always look forward to another awesome build & performance by cat, and I guess Bill helped a bit.

Bill, I was not ready for that story! 🤣😂 It was a nice backstory and fit in with the look of the inn perfectly!
Endlessly in love with your creations!!!
I loved the lore dump. Really drew me in!
Loved the lore dump, very cosy, it's nice how it gives context to the thing you made and the design decisions behind it.
This build turned out awesome. I love to see the town of Respite grow and love to hear the expanded planetary lore. Great addition to a table that would be loads of fun to play Stargrave on.
That sketchbook was awesome I'd love to see a flip through when it's full!
awesome build as always!
These long videos seem so short. I love your work
Thank you
I can watch your "Town of Respite" videos on a loop, they are that entertaining to me. Also provided some motivation towards my "Shantystacks" town project for This is Not a Test.
SO excited to watch this after I’m done with my studying! A perfect reward!
Love your builds and your Video Style in general. I could listen to you all day. You're somewhat of a Not-so-much-older-than-me story telling uncle
Gotta say, I loved your dump, keep em coming!
Brilliant👍👏👏
Really enjoyed that! Scatter terrain sounds like good fun too
Thumb up and kudos for brick and rivet montages.

I like how you did the intro sequence
This is amazing and I LOVED the lore dump.
I would love to play a DnD game set in your world accompanied by your scrap build tabletop sets! The lore definitely makes it stand out and it looks awesome!
Watching your videos reminds me of one of my favorite kids shows, Crashbox. I really appreciate the content here and the feelings it brings.

I get a big fuzzy blanket, my bunny slippers, and a cup of cocoa and cozy down for Billy's Story Time.
That's some dark lore there. Your world building is one of my favorite parts of the show :)
Does Respite have other civil amenities? A firehouse? A YMCA? Some sus secret society clubhouse?
Deck the halls with piles of cardboard, fa la la la laa la lallallaa~
Seriously though, the build looks epic, and I wish you quick recovery.
Wow! That looks fantastic mate!
God I love your videos! This has got me thinking about ideas for Ruster terrain with buildings on wheels built entirely of scrap from the junk mountain.
If you dont have eva foam, 3 sheets of construction paper mod podged on top of eachother works great for panels
The lore dump was awesome. Absolutely love the world building. And what a cool building. Amazing work. You're videos are the best. I dont care what they say.

Magnifique !!! Tres bonne fêtes de fin d'années 🍾🎉
"Yep here we go, here's a brick montage" Bill, you are a wondrous soul. Never change
Turned out amazing! I really like that parts reappear in the different buildings. Really brings everything together.
Spectacular work 🖤🩶🖤
