      Eidrian111 Ferrari should be scared shitless, Shelby purposely ordered by Henry Ford II to beat Ferrari's ass and he did. Good old American iron V-8's proved that they could beat Ferrari's ass. Enzo never got over our B-17's leveling his Modena Factory. He was a facist who worshipped Mussolini, so he got back at the Americans by killing so many American drivers. Shelby went for an interview and didn't like Enzo's demeanor and didn't drive for him, Shelby was a real gentleman who wouldn't have put up with Enzo very long. When Bob Lutz and Lee Iococca came home after the attempt to buy Ferrari that's when Henry Ford II went after And beat Ferrari's ass.that is when Ferrari kissed up,to Chevrolet and became a rival to Ford. The thing that sealed it for Henry Ford II to end it's racing was when Ferrari pulled it is cars from racing, Henry Ford got what he wanted to beat Ferrari's ass. It was on a sign in the North American's (F-86) factory on LAX-Mines Field that say's," Beat Ferrari's Ass". It was an order to Shelby by Henry Ford II.

      +James Stewart Shelby and his boys had the 289 in race trim dynoing at over 425 HP in '65...the high numbers were all do to the headwork done at the famous head shop in south Cali (I forget the name now)...the race 289's were basically running 351 windsor heads that were reworked/ported....that's what I remember from the old days anywho.

    • @mjbachman3027
      @mjbachman3027 3 роки тому +1

      Yes, however the Cobra Daytona Coupe didn't have a Ford FE engine, it had a Ford 289 cubic inch small block. The Ford FE engine is easily distinguished by the thick lower intake manifold, which is actually part of the head. Also the Ford FE engine block has extremely deep side skirts, much deeper than a small black 289.

      There are subtle differences that can add up to a big difference in sound. Port shape and symmetry/asymmetry, cam grind, compression, firing order, intake manifold, carburetion or fuel injection, combustion chamber shape, exhaust system type: these all contribute. To me, the roadracing Ford Windsors are the ultimate in musical-sounding muscle V-8's.

    I don't understand how people would be surprised by this. I get that there are people who will spend this kind of a money as an investment and to have a piece of art, basically, they can show off to friends. While I get that they exist, I cannot begin to understand them. If I dropped 7.25 million on this car, you can bet your lily white ass I'm going to take it out and drive it hard at least once or twice a year like this. I'm the kind of guy that if I bought a Ferrari or Lambo, I'd drive that damn thing to get groceries and down to the corner store for cigarettes and beer on the weekend. I might not commute in it every day, but at least once every few weeks I'd be sure to drive it down to work when the weather was nice.

    The Mercedes is either CW311 or an Isdera Imperator with Mercedes badging. I couldn't tell if the Isdera's rear-view periscope was on the roof. About 30 of the Imperators were made, whilst a handful of the CW prototypes were constructed. Either way, a rare car.

    Technology may have moved on but modern race cars just don't give the aural stimulation of a big block engine and downshifts; pure joy.

    • @Loulovesspeed
      @Loulovesspeed 5 років тому

      @Malcolm Lane-Ley - Actually, the Daytonas were 289 cu in small blocks, pumped up to 390 hp and good for 195 mph! To a great extent, it's the headers and side pipes that make it sound more like a big block.

    • @malcolmlane-ley2044
      @malcolmlane-ley2044 5 років тому +1

      You're absolutely correct of course, when I said big block I inadvertently made a boo-boo by not giving recognition to the difference between big and small block american engines; the underlying intention was to berate the lack of aural drama from the small capacity, high revving, paddle shift turbo cars of today

    • @Loulovesspeed
      @Loulovesspeed 5 років тому +1

      I agree. I grew up as an American teenager in the '60s surrounded by muscle cars. American cars may not have had the overall quality of many foreign cars, but they produced the absolute best sounds from the classic American V8s. I sure miss those wonderful sounding engines that certainly commanded one's attention and admiration. It's a different world my friend, for better and for worse!
