A friend of mine (the late) Bob Verhaeghe's father Victor used to race tether boats at Belle Isle in the 1930's and 40's. Victor and Bob were both Tool and Die makers in Detroit. Victor built some of his own engines and even designed a miniature magneto for his boat engines. The design for the magneto was purchased by a well-known US small engine manufacturer.
Wow those are really works of art. To think of the ability of these projects in the day. Its a shame that we have lost all the trades in our country 😢.
I am a member if the model boat club where this started and we are still running tether boats. They have evolved a bit now and we race internationally. Look at my videos for one of the modern types we run. We also still run surface piercing hydro’s
