Lovely choice! This is one of the most rewatchable films I have ever seen. So many details! Every line is either a set-up or a callback. It's delicious!
One of the greatest comedy films ever. The screenplay should have gotten an Oscar nomination. It's one of the greatest of the 21st century as far as I'm concerned.
@@noneofyourbeeswax01 Me too. It is like a reflex by now. Similarly I can't hear the word "snack" without saying "Snack, snack, have a snack with Brown and Black." Thank you Dr. Seuss.
It's the hidden little touches that make Edgar Wright movies so special. The "Fascist / Hag" joke is funny the first time when he arrives at the hotel. The callback is funny during the shooting scene. But did you spot the hidden crossword puzzle reference? When she shouts "Fascist" she starts shooting ACROSS the street. Then Angel shoots the flower basket that falls DOWN to hit her on the head before he replies with "Hag". Fascist was 7 ACROSS, Hag was 12 DOWN.
The Trolly boy for the supermarket that says “Yarp” is the actor who played The Hound, Sandor Clegane on Game of Thrones--Rory McCann. Hot Fuzz was one of McCann’s very first film roles ever!
I love this movie so much. Should be taught in every screenwriting class as an example of tying everything in your story together with zero loose threads and every moment having a payoff.
So happy to see y’all two enjoy this one. This has plenty of rewatch value, there’s so many jokes that I’m still discovering. I just got the Aaron A Aaronsen joke recently 😂
Lots of movie references here either via the script or casting, from John Woo's Hong Kong action films to cult Brit horrors from the 1970s like The Wicker Man (a cult in a remote village) which starred Edward Woodward (as a serious cop) who played the neighbourhood watch guy watching the CCTV in the police station. Tim Dalton (Skinner) was James Bond in the 80s. Billie Whitelaw (Joyce the crossword puzzler) was the first evil nanny in The Omen. And Peter Jackson was the Santa stabber.
Nice reaction! One thing most people don't spot is that in Simon Pegg's movies there are usually references to Old Skool hip hop. So the "Neighbourhood Watch Association" has a sign on the door saying "NWA". The final line, "Bring the Noise" is the title of a Public Enemy track. Another joke that non-Brits might not get is the title, and you did wonder about that... "Fuzz" has two meanings in Britian. The police ("the fuzz"). So "Hot Fuzz" would mean like action-packed police. "Fuzz" also used to mean "pubic hair". You can work out for yourselves what THAT title might mean... Anyway, if you liked this then "Shaun of the Dead" is an excellent next watch! Same two lead actors, but instead of a tribute to action movies, it's a tribute to zombie flicks!
Crusty Jugglers.... Swans are quite vicious and will attack relentlessly. Part of this is satirical about English villages because many of them refuse to change and "Tidiest Town" or some other accolade is a real badge of honour. 14:22, I think you missed the gag when he said "Decaffeinated?", what the person calling meant was "decapitated". You should watch the series Spaced if you get the chance. Has the two leads in it and the same director.
That was ace fun watching that with you, I'm subscribing. You're funny and smart and there's this look you give each other when you're on the same wavelength about something. I'm looking forward to what we're watching next. Big love from the UK❤
Not a 'Drumstick', the ice cream treats are 'Cornetto'. Thus the three films with Simon Peg and Nick Frost directed by Edgar Wright are called 'The Cornetto Trilogy'. Even though the films tie in in no other way than they eat one at some point in the film.
Great stuff. Fortunately, the Point Break clip doesn't give too much away - and it's an awesome movie, you should totally watch that one sometime. Virtual hug
There are some serious actors in this movie. The supermarket owner Mr Skinner is Timothy Dalton who played James Bond. The policewoman Doris is Oscar winner Olivia Coleman. The forensic expert, former girlfriend is Cate Blanchett....and heaps more.
Jyn: "So they're able to kill so many people, but they couldn't hit a swan?" Me: "Well they're not monsters." 🤪 If it helps to understand the title, "The Fuzz" is a slang term for "The Police."
When you said it was a love story, in the original script, Sgt Angel's partner in the village police was a female officer but they dropped her but kept a lot of the dialogue.
@@noneofyourbeeswax01 no they do not own them , They are protected by them by law . sadly they do not protect the peoples law which is higher . The problem here is the whitehall that controls parliament we have no say as the labor party tried to destroy brexit but could not stop the tories from leaving . and we have become a minority and religion is at the top of the list.
I think you missed the reason for those murders. The reason was: They wanted to clean up the criminal statistics of that village. So the village can become "The Village of the Year" every year. That was behind the people with the note blocks at the end. Those were the people from outside of the village, who had to judge, which village is becoming the village of the year. And behind all that is the police chief, who did that all for his dead wife. That's why nobody was officially punished for anything and the "cult" punished the offenders secretly by themselves with their own punishment methods. All was done to keep the official statistics and the surface impression of the whole village in an excellent condition...and over time the "cult" was becoming ever more insane with their "cleaning up" of unwanted people with their unwanted habits (like an annoying laughter etc). I'm only explaining that, because I think you missed the structure of the story behind the whole movie.
There is a reason they won't harm the swan. In the UK, all swans (also all whales and some other things) are property of the king. So they would have to answer to the palace officials about it if they did hit it. Also, I would assume that they would be motivated by patriotism to demonstrate respect for the king's property.
Sensational film with great actors. This crazy mix of US action and black Brit humor begins as a bland provincial farce in which serving alcohol to minors seems to be the biggest problem. But then people start dying - and in a gory way that is usually only seen in splatter films. The production obviously has fun throwing us for a loop. 😁 And Jim Broadbent, Cate Blanchett and director Peter Jackson (all in guest roles) seem to have enjoyed it too.
People in the UK think the swans belong to the monarchy, could be why they were avoiding it and nearly crashing instead. Really its just some swans that the monarchy owns, but who knows enough about swans to know which is which.
JYN X RYL. Have you ever considered (1953) The War of the Worlds. This movie to me is better than the Tom Cruise remake. It scared me to death as a 5 year old. Watched it with my Brothers who were teens.
38:12.......... "Why not just hit the swan?" It's illegal to kill swans in England and you can go to jail for 6 months. Also the swan has links to the Royal Family as they can claim ownership of any swan on open waters in the UK but they only exercise this right to the swans around Windsor.
38:18 ... Wild unmarked mute swans belong to the Crown. The Crown has held the right to claim ownership of all unmarked mute swans swimming in open waters throughout the country from as far back as the twelfth century. As such this means that taking a swan could amount to theft. Killing or injuring a swan could also amount to criminal damage or a wildlife related offence. Offences committed against swans have been successfully prosecuted in recent years.

The Zombie character in the fuel station is a callback to the previous movie 'Shaun of the Dead'. Great reaction ladies
He's also the director, Edgar Wright

So yeah, it was a great reaction - to a very overrated movie..

It's one of the tightest scripts in cinema. That's not a single wasted line, and almost everything is either a setup or a call back.

The Fuzz, is an old nickname for the police.
It is also an old slang word for "public hair". "Hot Fuzz" has two VERY different meanings...
@oldmangaming9259 And "being picked up by the Fuzz", is a whole other level.
