About Ed Sheeran:
Ed Sheeran may be the quintessential pop star of the 2010s: an internationally acclaimed, multi-award winning singer/songwriter who seems to acknowledge no boundaries between styles or eras with elements of folk, hip-hop, pop, dance, soul, and rock woven throughout his music.
His incredible catalogue includes the studio albums ‘+’ (plus), ‘x’ (multiply) and ‘÷’ (divide) which spawned hit singles such as ‘The A team’ , ’Lego House’, ‘Sing', ‘Thinking Out Loud’, ‘Photograph’, ‘Shape Of You’, ‘Castle on The Hill’ and ‘Perfect’.
In 2019, Ed Sheeran released the genre-spanning ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’ which featured a wide-range of artists including ‘Justin Bieber’, ‘Camilla’ Cabello’, ‘Travis Scott’, ‘Eminem’, ‘Cardi B, ‘Paulo Londra’, ‘Bruno Mars’ and ‘Stormzy’ amongst many others, producing hits such as ‘I Don’t Care’, ‘Beautiful People’, ‘South of The Border’ and ‘Take Me Back To London’.

The "And I know dark clouds" part... Goosebumps.. Every single time, even after almost 6 years..
I just got goosebumps thinking about that part lol
the "My wayyyyyyyyyyy is rough and steep" part gets me the most
Yup, I sang this song in a choir and looking back at recordings gives me chills! ❤👍😊
Truth!!
for real
I just came here after watching 1917 and this song is so beautiful especially during that scene
Ed can do a great remix but something bout keeping the song in its original hym style makes it more impactful. Even if you dont beleive in god song makes you at least question
Agreed
That’s why I’m here too! 😂
I did the same
same here
The song in the woods is hauntingly beautiful.
Definitely
An awesome movie to be true
Young men get a little taste of home before they enter hell
If he dies he’ll meet God at the gates and say “ Soldier reporting for duty Sir , I’ve served my time in Hell “
And entire generation of boys forced to be men in the fires of war knowing that they will be sent to die. The only solace they have is in eachother and the hope they get to see thier loved ones when the light comes to bring then home.
Hopefully 1917 wins several Oscars
I will never forget the concert I saw him sing this at. It was the beginning of his career and he was so excited to be singing at a decent sized place (it was the Nokia theatre). He sang the ending with no mic or music and just let his voice echo through the theatre. He was so excited the people in the back could hear him. It was one of my favorite musical moments I’ve witnessed
Same for me, back in 2013/2014. Most memorable musical moment I’ve experienced.
gotta respect a musician who can sound this good without auto-tune.
+Huehuehue Nobody sounds good WITH auto-tune.
+Castle1558 lol
+Huehuehue Everyone is auto-tuned (I'm a studio engineer), I'm sure this is too once it was actually mixed. The difference is that he really good and needs very little (and when it's done well, you can't tell that it's not natural). That being said, he is ridiculously talented.
ramenspawn
I say that because he sounds the same whether he sings in studios or talk shows. Normally when a singer comes on a talk show and sing, they sound so much worst than they do in the studios.
IFKR
it's starts the same way as it ends even the middle is too perfect Ed Sheeran is too perfect
I am a poor, wayfaring stranger
Traveling through this world alone
And there's no sickness, toil or danger
In that bright land to which I go
And I'm going there to see my mother
And I'm going there no more to roam
And I'm only going over Jordan
And I'm only going over home now
Hey ay ay yeah [12x]
And I know dark clouds will gather me
And I know my way is rough and steep
And the beautiful fields that lie just beyond me
And I know my needs are rough and steep
And I'm going there to see my mother
And I'm going there no more to roam
And I'm only going over Jordan
And I'm only going over home now
Cause I am a poor, wayfaring stranger
Traveling through this world alone
And there's no sickness, toil or danger
In that bright land to which I go
And I'm going there to see my mother
And I'm going there no more to roam
And I'm only going over Jordan
And I'm only going over home now
+I sell magic Hallo sir i would like to buy 1 gram of your finest magic
+I sell magic I would also like to procure some magic
I do hope there's some magic left? Be after at least a gram too
You like Casey, Ed and TIES. We should be friends mate. :)
+Marianne whoeps Haha, stalker :P . Alright, let's be friends ;).
What a beautiful version of this song. His voice is undoubtedly transcendent.
I remember stumbling upon this by accident 4 years ago and it had been the first time I've ever heard Ed Sheeran sing, and ever since then, I have been a huge fan!!!
Roilan Rosales Ditto. Just happened onto this video again- remember seeing it when it had only a few thousand views, and this unknown little red head kid was looping melodies...
Roilan Rosales I am right along side you! I saw this just after "You Need Me..." and I have been a fan ever since.
Roilan Rosales Same!!
Roilan Rosales Same. This is the song that introduced me to Ed Sheeran
Roilan Rosales I was just telling my girlfriend the same thing! I remember being floored when I heard him on the radio
This was what made me fall in love with Ed Sheeran's music in 2012.

Yeees!
Oh, but when it's me it's "Ow, it's not a button on a video game controller!" And I'm "bad in bed"
Damn I miss _this_ Ed
Woebegone Kenobi But there are stages. Many musicians have them. They refer to their musical path as a journey, when they're exploring, changing, searching. That's not bad! And Ed still loves these older songs - he sings them in his concerts.
@@JVictoria412 I know, I know. I just miss the sound his old songs used to have. Before they became mostly pop-y. Still like a number of his new songs, I just like _this_ era the best
Don't worry, he'll be back with subtract.
@@woebegone_kenobi i know rightttt!!! I miss this era so so so much, but it kinda soothes me whenever I see him laughing or making goofy faces-it's literally THE SAME as 2011 Ed and even younger too hehe He's still our same Ed🥰
Ikr I miss old school Ed. His stuff really hit home. I don’t care for his collaborations or divide album. To me it’s too poppy
THIS IS THE MOST PERFECT THING I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE I CANT HANDLE IT
BroadwayandLanaDelRey ME NEITHER
If u like this... give johnny cashs version a try
I'm speechless.
My mother died today, at the age of 46, she sang this song at my uncle's funeral, and it will play at hers. This song is very important to my family and I and you sang it beautifully. Thank you
Rest In Peace 🙌🏼
Jajajaja
Jude Roberts This is a soldier’s song for a memorial I think your family is built on lies
Maddox Sebastian bro that’s disrespectful don’t say that crap if his mom died
Maddox Sebastian that would hurt losing 2 people in your family and then people to say shit about them
I remember when my mum and dad went to see him in a tiny pop up show before he was famous. I was a massive fan of him back then but was just too young to go with them. I remember them coming back and telling me all about it, and how he asked everyone in the room to be completely silent so he could perform this song with the loop pedal. My mum even recorded my favourite song of his so I could watch a bit of the show. It’s still a very fond memory and I’m 16 now
It must be an honor witnessing him grow in music industry.
would be super nice if you could somehow post that little part of that show!, would love to see this live with audience
Sounds like your parents raised you right
That's so cool! 😊 That was great of her to record your favorite song while she was there, too!
You're 19 now 😁
His voice us so raw and emotional, amazing
Revisiting this 4 years later and it's still as beautiful as ever.
5*
+albe 4 for me :) I found this a bit late
+onedirectiongirl7 oh
I just found this last week.
albe mee
This was the first Ed Sheeran song I heard. Incredible.
I just LOVE watching him “build” the harmonies!! He is so so amazing!! I am always blown away by his lyrics but every thing he touches is magic. If you haven’t heard his cover of The Parting Glass you need to find it!!
Wow. His voice is heaven.
So talented
Look up Beardyman. Not tryna diss Ed Sheeran because he is pretty gosh darn talented, but I sorta think Beardyman is either a wizard or an alien.
EpixArtwork .
he's cool. thanks for lettin me know man. spread the love
The dude literally can make up any genre song live on the spot.
he's literally such a piece of perfection
Here after hearing this song in concert. This man is the most talented of today's artists. By far.
I know everyone has a different music taste…
But I will never understand how someone can dislike ed sheeran
Those people hate red heads.
I am one of those people and also a ginge haha so it's not the hair...He has a wonderful voice, it's just his depressing love songs that put me off...This cover though is amazing!!
This version is soul-less? have you ever written a song yourself? this is most definitely one of his most original work out there. Ed is a true artist and you'll find very few of it
agalloch666 You're entitled to your opinion. But I believe Ed puts a lot of soul and passion into this. Kind of a bummer that you can't.
Haaaa you sell them? Seems funny how you're not more successful than ed but seem to dispise his work? A bit of jealousy seeking through I feel
I was asked yesterday, if you could listen to one artist forever, who would it be? I showed them this video. Though I do not listen to him terribly often, he is a musical genius, he is an artist that simply CANNOT get sick of. There is nothing he can't do, his music can get me so hyped in a mater of seconds and that, to me, is the meaning of music. Whether you like his published music or not, you have to respect him as an artist. You have to respect the fact that he is able to completely make a song, using only his voice, in one take, in 4 minutes. That my friends, is extraordinary. -Robert/17
SimplyYT I totally agree there isn't many musicians like that in today's music I seriously can't get enough of him
Even when he takes a breath he sounds good, damn
Think we got a problem and I don care :))
AYE PURE UNREAL

“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams
this guy is a damn genius...well done ed..
Ed's like a diamond, so many facets.
Okay... This guy is mad talented. Love him.
I was sitting in a shit hole tent in Oklahoma doing field exercises for the Army when I discovered this song about 8 years ago. Felt like it was an appropriate time to hear it. Crazy how music magic like that works. Timing was impeccable. Also thought this kid is unbelievable and is gonna be huge. Yea I’d say he got big.
This sends literal chills down my spine... I love him...
Without a question this is one of the best male voices ever ;)
How can one person have so much talent? I am in complete awe of this man
all I can say is musical genius 💯 living legend
i love the way he says "Jordan"
i read this just when he said that
+Goku Uzumaki same
Me to...
I don't because it is just far too affected, and more to the point, incorrect!
And that's my name and I'm just like yaaaaasssss 🙌🙌🙌
Literally incredible .... I love the fact that he music doesn't change because of what people tell them .. He sticks to what he knows and I am glad because he is literally perfect .... His music is amazing and he is extremely talented ...
His voice is just amazing. I found a video of him doing the same thing at Madison Square Garden and it sounded even more beautiful. He's just so talented!

??
I really love that Ed Sheeran covers more traditional songs. I love his cover of The Parting Glass. He has a gorgeous voice for them.
Totally! that's pure perfection and awsomeness combined! This british ginger simply overwhelms me!
Still one of the best performances hes ever done.
Oh.. I'm listening in 2021 and all that.
I don't really care for Ed Sheeran, but imo always thought this was a pretty good version
This is his 2nd to first video.. I be live this is his best song
he fucking butchered the song
Douglas Bako did it better and Ed Sheeran is shit.
@@ultimatebigbrainhelth3161 keep crying
This was definitely uploaded on my birthday. Its a sign.
Happy birthday :)
I'm done. Ed is hands down the best artist I've ever known.
I've seen him do this live in concert and it's so amazing. All I could do is sit there in awe
Man, still brings it out of me. Wild rendition.
Ed Sheeran has the voice of an angel
Ed Sheeran has such a soulful sound. He really is a talented young man. He's coming to my city in June and I will definitely be getting a ticket to see/hear him live. I'm sure it will be a great show.
Oh I really like this! Lots of talent here. He's so haunting.
Just wanted to say for 8 years now this song/recording has never failed to pull me out of an anxiety spiral. The way it builds and ebbs/flows... every second of it is so pleasing to my ears. Thanks Ed or whoever moderates EDs YT page you’ve made some incredible music and I know you will continue to do so, know that it does make a difference in people’s lives ❤️
That's a fantastic idea! This song would be great to pull me from a panic spiral - thank you so much!
I will never not listening to him harmonize with himself. I love watching this video after not for a while.
I'm in love with him wtf
MEH too he's so pretty with the voice and the mind of an angel
I swear, this guy could sing me the ingredient list to my breakfast cereal and make it beautiful.
Ed Sheeran's energy in this video is just super-high and he still has same energy. That is why I am Ed Sheeran fan.
omg that growl though and then that falsetto gah
Saaaameeee 😍😍😍
i cried a bit
Hannah Szeto ikr
What the hell did I just watch?? That was insane! Such an incredible talent.
I wish this was on spotify
x2!
Me too
I love watching an artist at work, him doing the loops to add layers to the song...just amazing to watch. Love a singer who closes their eyes and just loses themself to a song, feeling every moment in his own mind.
way back when.... I never really gave Ed Sheeran the chance... I feel horrible about that now because he is hands down my favourite music artist. I love his acoustic sessions, like this. He's way up on the list with and above, "the Greats" in music.
when Ed Sheeran takes a breath I feel the chills don't you he sounds great without back up
Dude's got a fascinatingly unique voice. I think the progenitors of bluegrass would enjoy such a soulful and personal rendition!
I think you're right! 😊
I’ve listened to this song a million times over the years and it’s still as brilliant as ever
Good God thanks for creating Ed Sheeran, seriously, thank you
.-.

ll
Duru Ates If he is really a good god, then why he creates you?
Movgto For the same reason he created you. Suprised that you bothered to ask
I've been trying to find this song for months omfg
7 years later.......
He becomes one of the most successful artist of the world.
Ikr from the future
Only Eds' voice evokes feelings and emotions in me that are hard to describe 😍😍 it's a cross between a really low electrical current all over my body, my brain going into meltdown and a noise that sounds a bit like "whoaaahuuummmyeaah"
Love everything thing he sings...
Me too, Ellen Vickers, I love everything he sings, even the Nando's Skank.
"I know dark clouds" is the best part.
He isn't perfect. But guess what? He rocks. He nails the emotion. That's what counts. Simpletons notice the technicalities. But it's his musicianship which speaks to the soul.
This is nothing but the best rendition I’ve ever felt so Thank you mr. sheeren
When he said "I know dark clouds" he had a very talented strong voice almost sounded like Michael Jackson ! :o
ikr!!!
Treu. rt xdd
Yeah! Exactly what I thought. So much alike at that part, never heard him sing like that before.
yeah
2:28 :)
I love how he holds on to the mic just to keep himself from jumping all around. I wonder if they have trouble getting him to sit still when singing...
Dude, his songs are just pure perfection. Wish i could sing like him :/
I remember my choir director playing this for us. It was my introduction to Ed Sheeran.
Those high parts killed me holy shit I love Ed
thought I was the only one lol ....
It's so interesting to watch him work/sing
Type of music to be shared.. i feel so (me) so strong to this its unreal 2:30 (untouchable) Love u mum (Choke) ALWAYS LOVE YOU X
Hard to believe I was first listening to this eight years ago and he's since gone from some awesome musician I found on UA-cam to someone who's name is everywhere. Okay, maybe not hard to believe, since I could immediately see how insanely talented he was, but it's still nuts. Seriously, Ed, congratulations. Looking forward to seeing you live again next time you come my way.
He's so adorable omggggg 😭😭❤️❤️✨
what a voice
I remember being obsessed with this song in 2013 and learning the lyrics from memory even though i barely could speak English then. I had completely forgotten about that until i watched 1917 and i recognize the song in the movie, what a nostalgic moment I just had
When I went to a Taylor Swift concert and I heard him sing this song as an opening act for Taylor, I knew he IS going to be the next big thing.
lol bet you did
He's been the next big thing for 4 years now. Where have you been?
Mohamed Ihsan Most people never heard of him
Meanderthal17 most people = americans?
I didn't like him at all when I saw him open up for Taylor last April. I'd actually never heard of him before her tour announcement. I think the reason I didn't like him is because the acoustics in that arena were HORRIBLE (it was in Atlanta, Georgia) and with his accent I couldn't understand anything he said. And he drug his songs out too long. But since then I've fallen in love with Lego House, I See Fire, Give Me Love, and A team. And this..this is my new favorite thing.
Knocked it out of the park ! Still 24' loving it !
Best song he has in my opinion listened to this off the album and go back all the time makes me feel like it the first time every time

"bright land", not "bright line"
Thank you 👍🏼❤️
I wish he would do more in this style.
This will ALWAYS be my introduction to wayfaring stranger. I am supremely grateful for the journey to its roots that it took me. The original is haunting & deeply felt in my heart. Love to all. Peace to all. Unity to all

Stunning talent. Continue to be amazed by this artist.
My son James Lee sang this for my Mom when she was passing. Great comfort in these words. Thank you for giving an old melody new life❤
I still love watching this video. This young man knows how to sing. Love him
Before she passed away, my mom (in her late 60s) used to call me asking who this guy was and the name of the song so she could show it to her friends
2:32 daaaannggg! GO ED!
Remember listening to this 7 years ago, truly iconic rendition
He has an amazing voice 😍 I love him with all my heart 💙 he deserves all the best. With love from Russia (30.07.19) 🙋🇷🇺♥

Fun fact that's actually what happens 🤓
And now I check my pulse whenever I listen to music to see if it's true

The Lyrics were altered somewhat also, the version I first heard was "World of woe" not "world alone"
Also other versions say "going to see my father"
these lyrics are wrong
@@runeskfunk2496 Lyrics are significantly altered, and not very well. The final line of the Dark Clouds verse is actually "Where God's redeemed their vigils keep".
Altered lyrics because it's a Christian song. Fuck these secularists.
May God bless you and keep you and the people close to you, Ed 🙏🏼♥️
I consistently watch this... I think my repeat button is broken.
8 years later and I still love this video. ❤️
What a masterpiece
