Magic the Gathering Pokémon, and Disney Lorcana are going to have to become about more than just money, finances, EV and investments for the games to continue to succeed.

or they could just stop telling shareholders that they're going to try to double their earnings every year..... and give more realistic expectations.
That's not how this all works... that is way too rational and normal!
Uhhh excuse me? I was not informed about that information. (Shareholder here)
WoTC: We understand that there are under priviledged people who wanted to be addicted to cardboard. Therefore, we have developed a product just for you.
"You know what are really awesome? Dollar General! We should adopt their non-exploitative business model for our card game." - WotC, probably
Idk if these work in Dollar General - theres not a connection to characters like Pokemon so opening an extra small pack seems even less fun for a younger audience
@@HometownTcg true, but I’m just talking about giving even less value to the people lower on the socioeconomic ladder. People thing dollar stores are cheap because of psychology but they’re actually more expensive in the middle to long term.
They got rid of draft boosters to come out with these which is a way to sell packs that have half the cost of draft ones. Its idiotic unless those are $2 or $3
I am hoping for $2.50!
They are Impulse buys for superstore checkout lines. Everyone complaining about them is bad at business. Pokemon has been doing this for years.
Juicing the bundle? You mean the bundle that used to come with 10 packs, a novel, poster, a full color set checklist book, and a way sturdier deck box with an inner card holder? Now we're excited because they went from 8 set boosters to 9 play boosters? They've skimped so much on the bundle for no reason. Why remove that inner box? It's like 2 cents in production costs but it makes the bundle a million times worse as a deck box.
So they went to play boosters to "streamline" the product line knowing they would add a new box type later in the year. 💯 Makes sense
don't you question the logic of "less SKU's to make room to print more SKU's!"
;-)
You're also forgetting wizards is not in the market of dollar stores. Like pokemon has the 3 cart pack she could get at the dollar stores. This pack is perfect to put in those markets.
I agree they aren't in that market but MTG cards don't stick like Pokemon cards. There isn't the attachment to the characters that you have with Pokemon, so I am not sure that these would do as well.
I'll never forget opening a box of Return to Ravnica and getting a foil sphinx's revelation. The most valuable card at the time from a regular old pack...
That was a SICK pull!
Value pack with no guaranteed R/M, these are a big gamble which means the house usually wins.
Pokemon tcg has always a rare foil in each boosters. Mtg charge prenium for every products
I love it! I wish Pokémon would bring back the $1 mimi boosters.
I think boosters like that THRIVE in a game like Pokemon where there's real connection to the characters
I'm just enough of a sucker to buy these in the supermarket checkout next to the bubblegum, but that's about it.
While I will not be purchasing these Boosters, I can see these being impulse purchases for some.
Keeping drafr boosters was too expensive btw
Aren't these just gravity packs with an extra card? This is probably targeting the grandparents who shop at Target who remember their grandkid plays that funky Magic game and pick them up as a stocking stuffer or something, diversification of their revenue with minimal cost to product and market. If they end up being $1-$2 I think they're fine, but anyone watching your channel is not the target audience for this at all, heck they won't even be sold in LGSes (sold "At select retailers") so I don't see too much of an issue with these.
I think they will def be in things like Dollar Tree etc
@@HometownTcg if these really do end up being a dollar then IMHO that'd be a win :) But...then again this is Wizards, I can see them botching this and trying to charge $4 because it's close to half of a Play Booster.
MH3 is holding value enough that I'm gonna skip Bloomburrow entirely and go from MH3 to Duskmourn
I always thought pre-release kits filled that need for a good, fun lower priced product to get a taste of a new product
I would agree but MOST of the time they are not sought after post pre-release. Probably some untapped potential there if you ask me!
It seems like a worse "value" than the theme booster and jumpstart packs. A concern of mine is that these will mostly be used as a repack product.
I like jumpstart because people can sit down and play the games!
@@HometownTcg the set based jumpstart was more interesting as a chaos draft than playing the same set.
I dropped that sub my guy. Those value boosters are a joke. I remember my brother hitting up dollar tree and family dollars with a digital scale. He would weigh each Pokémon value booster pack. Every pack that weighed a certain amount of grams or over, he took home. The packs with special foiled cards weighed more. They were a dollar per pack
Thanks for subbing and sharing! Sounds like your brother was ahead of the game!
@@HometownTcg sure no problem! My brother was coming up on good cards. Of course the store employees caught onto his plan and was told to never do that again or else he would get trespassed 😂
They really can’t help themselves do they. like they removed the extra booster only to add another
Less SKU's just to add some SKU's!
I've been trying to think of a price point where I'd buy these. I'm not sure it's there. I mean maybe if you want to do a low power draft, but only 6 cards means you need a lot of packs for that.
I buy bulk sometimes for a chaotic cube experience, this doesn't scratch that itch.
I think to work they can't be more than $2.50 and even at that price I'm a bit skeptical...
I stand by my assessment that the masterpiece era was the best era when it came to keeping everyone satisfied because we had a cheap standard due to the lottery hunt. With WOTC tilting towards premium product it has led to a certain amount of disengagement just look at Karlov Manor which would have sold more if the boxes weren't $130. I support Collector Boosters but the march toward higher prices are leaving would be participants on the sidelines.
God that was a good era for MTG...
Wow. I bet this won’t math out. You will get hosed buying this booster for sure.
Agreed, there's no chance the EV of this is positive
They are adding more than 9 packs now?
MOAR PACKS BABY!
unless these are like 1-2 bucks its not worth it. Even if they are 2 bucks, it would just be more worth it to spend that 3 extra dollars and get a guaranteed rare and possibly more.
Yeah I don't see what need these fill but maybe in a dollar tree?
I don’t see the issue. These aren’t products designed for game stores. Just cheap little gimmick packs for Walmart type places.
And yet with the way distribution is the stores are probably going to end up holding the bulk of these. My locals have so much theme boosters taking up space that they had to buy to get allocated the good stuff.
If it was for all retailers maybe but selected retail probably means Walmart and dollar stores. Biggest thing is going to be the price.
There's no "issue" per say, I just don't think these will be impactful
So theyre essentially taking a dump in a box and selling it to us as we continue to buy their overpriced product and they laugh.
BULK-ONLY PRODUCT LOL
Exactly
It's a wild move by WotC! LMAO!
Not being a 6 year old I am not interested in Commander Furries...I mean...Bloomburrow. I don t even think my 3 year old would prefer it to Katuri :)
Seriously I m not interested in that set whatsoever. The horror/scary one on the other hand I am slowly digging it.
The back half of this year in MTG is going to be WILD!
I don't like opening pack, I prefert single, this way I know what I am getting. Anyways most of rare worth 0,35$
Thats def a better way to get more bang for your buck most of the time
normal packs are gambling, these are just a scam
Ther's a fun/excitement factor to pack crackin' too!
What a trash pack idea. I guess Amazon dumps are going to be back on the menu. Why would anyone want to save money on a pack that doesn't even have a for certain rare/mythic?
I actually don't think they are going to go the way of Amazon dumps. IMO WotC knows the damage it did to their brand with fans and more importantly stores - I think they have pivoted
🙏
wizards is the worst
idk about the "worst"!
