Magic is easy enough to get into because after you learn the basic rules (which have remained essentially the same for the last 15 or so years), everything else becomes easy, and if you're just wanting to play and not learn the lore, then you won't have to really worry about too much info.

@HometownTcg yeah that's the best. Or when they know the references in the cards related to the movies and shows. My daughter calls those out when she watches wrecked Ralph.
Shimmering Skies is a great high powered set with decent value in the pulls. I do think they need to tighten print runs a bit and maybe sprinkle a little more spice in the boxes for collectors. The game is great to play, I see it sticking around for a while
Might be a dumb question but I just have to ask:) When do you think they will stop printing the older sets. Take for example floodborne. They have to at some point stop printing, but when in youre opinion might that be?:) good vid btw👯
Lorcana either needs a news banger set, to implement rotation, or to implement a banlist to encourage people to get off their current staples. I mean, most of the major decks use the same staples from the first 2 - 3 sets, leaving players little reason to continue buying product. Edit: also it’s insane how none of these comments seem to be addressing the purpose of this video lol
I have experience with dead tcgs, many times the company prints too much, then they fall face first. So many stores order the first 3 sets, the game falls off set 4-5, most store stop ordering that game set 6, the game continues sets 7-8 with the few stores that still supports them, then dies. All those boxes go online, and the market looks something like this : Boxes upon boxes of sets 1-3 they sell them for 25$, sets 4-5 35$, set 6 retail price (because the low print begun), set 7-8 500$ (impossible to find relics basically). There are still some players playing, they feel nostalgia, they want to sets 7-8. Even though there is only 2000 world wide players still playing that dead tcg, there is only 10 sealed sets 7-8 left, prices go up. Supply and demand. Im not saying this translates for lorcana, but be wary, nothing is guranted.
I quit playing magic years ago got busy with life wanted to play FaB but hasn’t grown in my area. Finished my masters degree in May now I’ve got more time for card games again. I like lorcana but it’s just almost too simple. Started playing the Star Wars TCG it’s really good have been really surprised.
I agree and have been doing the same all year. Also Ilumineer's Troves are the rarest product SKU in all sets. Value of packs alone will not make sense but as merely a collectors item they will stay highly desirable IMO.
Here’s my issue as a millennial growing up in the 90’s and why I feel like Lorcana will be capped lower than other popular TCGs. If we compare Pokemon to Lorcana, Lorcana is Disney but Pokemon is Pokemon (yes it’s owned by three companies, Nintendo being the most known) but it is its own brand in many ways. Lorcana will always just be Disney. I don’t see it as a brand. If Lorcana had its own characters separate from the common Disney characters I think (though higher risk) it would perform better in the long run. More thoughts on that… In addition, the excitement about Pokemon is the release of new generations with new packs, a new video game and new show with the new generation. Lorcana will be launching things that have already existed that people have to wait and hope for. One reason why Shimmering Skies flopped is probably related to Wreck it Ralph not being the most ideal to launch this early. However, Big Hero 6 might be better. On this note, what if Lorcana goes the direction of Marvel and Star Wars and the demand for classic Disney characters falls away? I think there are a lot of questions but I don’t think it will fail. I just don’t see it reaching the likes of other popular TCGs even 10-20 years from now. How’s Lorcana going to branch out from just a card game but establish itself as its own brand that is a branch of Disney?
I have not decided if I want to fully get on the Lorcana train yet. I was really, REALLY, R-E-A-L-L-Y, put off by the unavailability and scalper pricing of the 1st Chapter and Rise of the Floodborn to the point of I never got any cards from those sets at all. I did buy a few starter decks from Shimmering Skies and Ursala's Return as well as a few boosters from Inklands, but I'm less $100 into the game and I don't know anybody actually playing it. I just don't know if I'm going to continue to pursue it or not yet at this point. I am not a TCG/CCG fan in general because of the bottomless money pit they can become, I got out of MTG in the mid '90s because I could already see that it was becoming VERY expensive, and quite frankly I'd rather buy a hobby board game and stick it on the shelf instead.
My girl did the exact same thing. He smiled and joy of doing cards exact the same..gold mined.i told my girl same thing..love the dad vibes ❤u did the same
Just bought my second case of shimmering skies. Love it. I sell on TCGPlayer and I will say something... the release of Shimmering skies I had so many single sales I couldn't even keep up with it. So, I wonder if people realize the product will come down after the first couple of weeks, already have a lot of product and cards, and just want to buy the singles on the whole from now on.
I find myself buying less and less Lorcana mostly because at the beginning you were making decks... now we go for incremental improvements, it starts to feel like standard. I'm not buying starters anymore. I got a Trove once. No need to get more. And yes, I do play it with my daughter too.
My biggest problem with the TCG is the barrier to entry, in terms of getting a deck that can compete in a normal LGS night. It can cost hundreds just for a few play sets of core singles 💀. Having the same card in multiple rarities (like pokemon TCG) would most likely help at least a little bit
But this is true for most TCGs that aren’t Pokémon. Magic and YGO decks are far more expensive to be competitive, many Lorcana players are usually very willing to trade and help you build for much cheaper than just buying TCG singles
Before at my LGS people played competitive decks starting out, but as time has gone on and more available cards come out, people have been making less competitive theme decks to mess around with until tournament time. Someone the other day made a Flotsam Jetsam deck and another did a Mickey and friends only deck.
This game is the cheapest TCG out of the big ones. The most expensive deck will run you close to $400 and that’s if you’re heavily invested into that color combination you don’t need to play that. Like others in here are saying you can build something under $100 and do decent with it at locals or even at Set Champs. I play red purple which is a meta deck and I got everything for about $200 which is fairly cheap when it comes to tcg standards. Yugioh you need playsets of cards that are $50+ each.
I play lorcana, I also collect but I haven't bought one pack of Shimerring skys, why? I don't need any of the cards, my decks work great and are very competitive with the first 4 sets, ill buy a few singles from each set moving forward to improve decks but im done with boxes
I agree if you’re not interested in the commons / uncommons or otherwise have an open outlook to building a new deck, don’t buy a box. I buy boxes when I have decks but want to build another one so based on my pulls, I let the wind take me in that direction to whatever I can build
Same if you’ve been playing since set 1 or two you have all the cards you need to build competitive decks of any color combo . Singles are it for me . I’ll buy six packs for sealed but that’s it
I was happy with the announcement because it keeps scalpers away and that they want this game to stay kid friendly. This game is really fun and a great way to get none tcg players in. The tcg landscape as a whole, will grow from lorcana.
Y’all are gonna take a nap and sleep on the game before it even gets interesting. The game description describes part of the game play is our imagination. If you think for a second they won’t expand the games mode both relaxed and competitive then keep sleeping. This game has potential to actually go somewhere and its players like me that will have to bring what I’m saying into fruition 😅❤
The major issue with Lorcana is that unlike other tcgs that can create new cards every set, Lorcana has to rely heavily on ip, something that isn't sustainable. You can only make so many Mickey, Belle, Elsa, Hercules, etc. cards before they all just appear the same and become void of any differences to make them valuable in their own right. Only way for Lorcana's survival is to start moving towards implementing non ip characters so that it can stand a chance of surviving longer than 5 years.
Thanks for showing us why you don't design games lmao or even play apparently lmao mtg, pokemon, one piece all do exactly what you said lorcana can't do 😂😂😂
Don't forget there going a mirrorverse route so there could be so many different variations as well as bring in different gimmicks it's not like they'd shy away from cross overs either so it's possible they could bring in marvels big hero 6 so many different routes they could take from here
I randomly searched Lorcana today on UA-cam and came to this video. I am from Germany, i play Yu Gi Oh and collect Pokemon for years now and today was the first time I opened the site of tcgplayer. What i want to say is, yes this video has valuable points but for example with the Gamescom in Germany taken place two weeks ago I am 100% sure the numbers look different in other countries and sites.
I think the game will survive but....... unlike pokemon, magic, yugioh etc many people are stockpiling sealed product which was definitely not the case in the 90s-00s. Average people simply have more capital whether cash or access to credit not to mention knowledge based on predecessor tcgs to hold sealed product. Looks like in 20 years there will be a bunch of sealed/graded product to not warrant high values. Just my opinion. (I'm sitting on a case of each set indefinitely)
I mean there’s stacks and stack of product just sitting in shops and big box stores. I think Lorcana really has grabbed everyone it can. The game also isn’t evolving.
Shimmering Isles isn’t available locally where I live so I have to buy it online. I imagine local stores will catch up with stock soon but it definitely effects momentum here…
If they don’t rush out a digital game it’s over they will never recover. Magic and Yugioh got away with it for years because of when they released but there is no way Lorcana can survive off collectors alone.
Pixelborn was actually very damaging to the game. Yes it's nice to play it for free. But that's the problem, there were a lot of people who only played on Pixelborn and immediately left when they could no longer play it for free online.
only first set has any speculative value or nostalgia, it was heavily frontloaded with bomb legendaries. You can get an entire floodborn set for about $60 with only Beast and Mim Fox being the only cards above $4. Inklands is cheaper now ursula and diablo came down . Overall, I don't see any trend that will lead me to believe anything other than first chapter will ever hold any future weight.
Yeah for sure - they were making the boxes cost so much and really hard to come by in recent sets - hopefully the prices of everything can come down a bit without flippers and scalpers
@HometownTcg I met two new couples in open play at the LGS. Just started playing. One of the husbands plays Magic and now Lorcana because his wife plays. See how that happened. Wife plays he plays.
All those boxes go online, and the market looks something like this :
Boxes upon boxes of sets 1-3 they sell them for 25$, sets 4-5 35$, set 6 retail price (because the low print begun), set 7-8 500$ (impossible to find relics basically).
More thoughts on that…
In addition, the excitement about Pokemon is the release of new generations with new packs, a new video game and new show with the new generation.
Just want to say I believe in the dream. I only really started looking into it today, but lorcana really does look promising.
I am getting them as a way to introduce my kids to TCGs. I think the game is easy to play and the cards are characters they love.
@@akebo92 wish the players at mine were that chill lol 😆 I want to run brooms for fun
You can have a competive deck for less than $60.
Buying singles is a totally good way to interact with the hobby!
I’ll buy six packs for sealed but that’s it
Great video. Enjoyed the analysis and the personal stories. Keep it up!
I love collecting but just played for the first time with a friend who saw me enjoying it and it a ablast!
2026 will be HUGE for Lorcana.
does this mean i should sell my whole collection before it loses all value? Ive been hearing that Lorcana is dying.
Thinking of collecting Lorcana for a collection
I got a good feeling about Lorcana. Let see how it goes it years to come
The game is expanding, and buyers are getting it from another places as availability increases.
you can easily pre-order the shimmering skies that says its not selling the many.
Is George aware of your new opinions on the goat?
you meander a lot in your thoughts. only like 2 mins was about lorcana
I didn't pre order shimmering skies because they're releasing too fast imo. Just can't justify spending that much money
I was happy with the announcement because it keeps scalpers away and that they want this game to stay kid friendly. This game is really fun and a great way to get none tcg players in. The tcg landscape as a whole, will grow from lorcana.
Recently moved over to this game due to pokemon being very power crept and nobody playing digimon
5th set sag is a thing. People who realize cards cost a lot over time shakes off new buyers.
Pikachu and Charizard would disagree, I feel like there are plenty of versions of both
Thanks for showing us why you don't design games lmao or even play apparently lmao mtg, pokemon, one piece all do exactly what you said lorcana can't do 😂😂😂
Disney has over 100 years worth of animation/ips and that’s not including everything they’re gonna make they won’t run out of ideas any times soon
Don't forget there going a mirrorverse route so there could be so many different variations as well as bring in different gimmicks it's not like they'd shy away from cross overs either so it's possible they could bring in marvels big hero 6 so many different routes they could take from here
You can't use one website after a policy change - to make any reliable conclusions. It's extremely unprofessional to make such conclusions
Lorcana will be huge
I mean there’s stacks and stack of product just sitting in shops and big box stores. I think Lorcana really has grabbed everyone it can. The game also isn’t evolving.
I only buy local. Most everyone by me buys local.
Shimmering Isles isn’t available locally where I live so I have to buy it online. I imagine local stores will catch up with stock soon but it definitely effects momentum here…
You should take a look at Altered TCG. I would watch your review, discussion
You. Are. Awesome.
Feels like too many sets too quickly, but love the game!
Love the shirt! 🤙
I got two cases of skies coming in… don’t tell me this sh**
Love this
Thanks for watching!
Good riddance to the flippers and scalpers. Go back to pump and dumping the games that nobody plays instead.
Yeah for sure - they were making the boxes cost so much and really hard to come by in recent sets - hopefully the prices of everything can come down a bit without flippers and scalpers
So lorcana?
@@Rayquaza894 sure, you can live in that fantasy land if it makes you feel better.
Thought you were having a Lorcana clearance sale because of your thumbnail, nvm.dislike.
I see a lot more people playing. Especially women and couples.
My wife will play Lorcana with me from time to time.
@HometownTcg I met two new couples in open play at the LGS. Just started playing. One of the husbands plays Magic and now Lorcana because his wife plays. See how that happened. Wife plays he plays. Men are like puppy dogs. Easily walked and trained. I'm a guy just older and chuckle every time I see it. Women are amazing.
@@lerak8452 not everything is about being a dog or trained (or bottom), it is about respecting each other and spending time together. If there is communication, then both agreed to play together
You look like Seth Rogan.....awhhuhhhhuhhhhhuhhhhh
I'm only 10 seconds into this video and the fact that I'm surrounded by nothing but magic the gathering in the background makes me think this comes from a bias, and there's a reason why he chose to make it that way instead of a flat background, it's almost as if it was as the coast is tapping him on the shoulder saying that hey they're getting hyped and we need y'all to calm down
Well you’re in for a bit of a twist it seems 🤣
He thinks early boxes will be valuable down the road and will collect them. I saved you ten minutes
