I previously used a Pebble, so I'm not used to the usual smartwatch features like voice reply/assistant and touch screen. But I learned to appreciate full button control and reflective screens (yes, no AMOLED for me), and long battery life. That's why I went for a Garmin fenix as a replacement when my Pebble was beginning to fall apart. And I have to say, I'm very happy with my choice! Almost everything works very similar to the way my old Pebble used to work. I miss some apps, that's not Garmin's strength, I totally agree with you there. The fitness/sports features are a nice addition, but they're not my main use case. So I might be a very unusual Garmin user.
Went from a Galaxy watch 4 classic to the epic 2... Never going back, Garmin is an outstanding fitness tracker.
Absolutely love my garmin epix gen 2
how do you like the thickness?

I just left garmin after 10 years :(
I'm getting one purely for the topo maps. I hike a lot and like to keep track of where I am and what is around me. The silver color looks great, everyone always reviews the darker colored one
I really like this silver and white color.
helpful video, thanks. zero chance Garmin will adopt Wear OS for their watches IMO. They just don't need to and aren't in that market. And are serious enough competitors to wear OS watches. Agree it's too bad Garmin doesn't have a little more smart watch features such as place / answer call, or for me absolute killer would be LTE even if it impacts battery life (for my use). They are so focused on being the leaders in sports fitness watches that LTE and other smart features get left behind. Yes it can't be all things to all people but I would buy one if it were a bit 'smarter'.
It has the ABC sensors where the missing button is on the right side (at least on the Fenix 7x I’m wearing). Definitely miss the smart watch features and the battery life is half of what they state (with always display on etc.) - but still a heck lot compared to anything else (~10days). Ability to download maps and navigate without any wireless connection is the best survival/emergency/remote location feature in my book. Navigation is excellent on it.
Battery life is what they state if you change some settings, for example having pulse ox enabled chews through batterylife and the obvious stuff like always on display. I have my epix on gesture mode and pulse ox off which gives good battery life.
I was surprised how much battery that pulse ox chews through. I have the always on screen on but still get solid battery life.
As I can see you use AOD. Aren't you worried about Display Burn-in?
The golf is the whole reason i got a garmin fenix. Excellent tracking and yardage reading

@@joshdavis2836 doesnt bother me i sleep with it on and everything. I have the tactix model should be the same size as the x varient so its 51mm. I had a 47mm a while back and it does feel "better" on the wrist.
I do understand the switch to that Garmin watch (regular vs heavy fitness user) but.. having such a difference in the price tag, are they really comparable? (Samsung to Garmin, ofc it makes sense to compare with the Apple Watch Ultra).
Anyways, thanks for the review, keep up the good work ! :D
Samsung is practically useless for anything outside a casual run on gym work. So yes, the price is worth it if you ever do ski, snowboarding, hiking, trail run or even biking. For the Apple one you need a subscription for anything more serious, so yes I would better give it to Garmin to give me the full package.
ive owned a bunch of Garmin watches and a couple Galaxy Watches. still quite undecided whether to go for A) Epix Pro 2 or B) Galaxy Watch 6 Classic or C) Galaxy Watch 5 Pro
very tough decision
Do you have any pictures or a video of this and the GW 5 Pro on your wrist together? I have the Samsung currently and it's just too small. I prefer bigger size watches, but still want to get the AMOLED screen. May just end up going for the Fenix 7x if it's small.
I don't. I thought there was a quick spot in this video that has them side by side. Have you thought about getting a case for your Samsung? Beefs it up pretty good.
@@GottoGetitDone I might do that. I see you've tried some, which is your favorite?
So the Fenix 7X is a 51mm case, whereas the Epic (Gen 2) is a 47 mm case.
Whereas the Fenix 7 is a 47mm case (for any of the standard, solar or sapphire options).. although it is not amoled.
The Epix have a Dnd it's in the settings . I have mine on my shortcuts because I turn it on every night
Few questions...have you worn this watch for some time now? Does the white get discoloured at all or noticeably dirty? I love the look but feel that black might be the better choice.
It does get a little dirty but have only had to clean it up a few times which is easy. For some reason I really like the white, personal preference I guess.
I went from an AW ultra to an epix 2 pro. at first I thought I’d miss the notifications from the ultra, but after a few weeks of usage I’ was good. Next up transition from an iPhone to an android phone 😮
You won't miss the iphone. I just went from iphone 14 pm to the s23 regular. 100% worth it
have epix 2 sapphire and tactix 7 pro. Had multiple galaxy watches etc. Mo comparison to garmin. Garmin is not really a smart watch. Its a active lifestyle tracking tool that is also a watch. Its not to be confused with normal apple watch stuff. its not it. Its more sport, outdoor life style, military and navigation based than sitting and texting on snapchatr.
Why would anyone want Google's WearOS in a Garmin? Seriously, given all we know now that they do with our data, would you really want a data predator like Google, to have all your health details and stats? If Garmin went that way I'd drop it in a heartbeat.
I hear ya but I was thinking a different product. Leave the current products as is and just put in a Wear OS version of the Epix. Kind of like how Suunto did but better since it is Garmin and the platform has got much better.
Does the Epix 2 have body composition measurement capabilities?
It does not. One of the few fitness metrics it doesn't have.
@Got to Get it Done thanks for the quick reply. I am tempted by garmin watches, i just wish they could measure vody fat.
Always wanted an epix 2 but i can't justify the price.
Epix 2 retails for $1500AUD which if not mistaken is around $950USD.
When the galaxy watch does pretty much all the epix does and in many cases even better (obviously not in the battery department), it's hard for me to pay double what the 5 pro retails for.
Absolutely uncomparable watch for sports and fitness. Galaxy don’t even close to garmin. Maybe you just don’t need to go that far for your personal use . Galaxy watch are very good in their hood.
My galaxy watch doesn't silence my phone either. Have to set them individually.
Buy Suunto 7 it’s with Wear OS
If they update that watch with the new W5 chip and wear os 3 and they will take my money.
I just wish Samsung would add ANT+ to their watches.
That would be useful.
Samsung just does not do Sports or fitness tracking. Their health app is poor.
I don't feel i get enough from the samsung but Garmin does not have enough smart features either.
I still dont know why this watch costs so much.
It is a conundrum. Hopefully the upcoming Health update will get us some more info. I still track all my runs with my Garmin... it is just better at that.
??? You want wearos, then buy that. How is that better? Do you have google stock or what? Thumb down.
Iv'e never understood why they haven't added answer call from your wrist on Garmin. If the Epix 2 had that I'd be all over it.
Check out the Garmin Venu 2 Plus, it has a speaker you can make or take phone calls and send texts, when paired with your phone.
Only if you have an android phone though which alot of people have ios
@@rafestone123 No only the Venu 43mm no thanks.
@@HotGates i think you misunderstood what i said lol
I said that the replying only works for android phone on the venu series, personally i have an epix as i tend to have my phone with me when i exercise anyway 🤷🏼♂️
@@rafestone123 Yes reply ok but you can't talk like you can with other smart watches.
garmin is a true outdoor/fitness/ machine. the other two are just toy
A bit Extreme are we 😆
$1004.00 is absurd for what that watch can do. I'll take my galaxy watch 5 pro anyday over that
Yeah, I'm a city guy 95 percent of the time and I feel you. I've had mine for 5 days and its great. 👍
I had a Garmin and sold it and got a Watch 5 Pro lte. I'm into keeping fit, but don't need the extras Garmin offer such as recovery metrics and body battery etc as I just listen to my body and how I feel. On top of that the heart rate monitoring isn't the best on Garmins and the Galaxy Watch has real world use such as body composition, blood pressure monitoring, Google map's and I'm able to leave my phone home and still stay in touch via the lte, which comes in handy when training outdoors.
If it only it looked better and was made from better materials and had dual-band GPS with better battery life.
Love your video. Look up the definition of "per se". it will help you sound more intelligent.
