  • My water pump on the camper was running a long time to pressure up. Then just minimal flow and taking a long time to rebuild pressure. I was fearing a leak, but no water anywhere.
    This is quick check solved the problem. Make this part of your semi-annual maintenance, check the strainer/filter. Three GOOD videos below on various Shurflo issues.

    "Preventing backflow of water into the fresh water tank when connected to City Water"

    Here is a very good video too of low pressure issues with a Shurflo water pump I highly recommend. :)

    This was great & solved my much of my problem. THANKS. I also cleaned my aerators on each faucet to get like new flow. They had all worked great at the end of last season. I blew my lines to winterize and nothing worked when I filled my tank and the start of the season. This fall I'm going to clean my filter and aerators after I blow the lines. I believe I blew gunk into the aerators last time.

    If you have that much growth in your fresh water tank you're going to need to check it every time you fill your tank. It took me quite a while to get mine clean in addition to vinegaring the tank. It's clear now but it took a while to get it all out. I also drained my fresh water tank at the low point valves every time before refilling the tank. It got a lot of that debris out and kept it out of the filter and out of the faucet screens. Don't forget to do a twice yearly on your water heater. You're cooking that stuff onto the sides of your water heater every time you make hot water. Avoid using chlorine bleach in any of your tanks. It destroys plastic and rubber parts inside your pump and any fittings. Use just straight chlorine (like pool chlorine), not bleach.

    The mesh screen will come out of the clear plastic housing; it's just a matter of pulling straight up on the screen to take it out and pressing straight down to put it back.

      @@ImnotChuck. It works better (more pressure) than city water. The check valve has been sticking open more lately. So my tank fills up with water when connected to city water. I'm lazy, but some day I need to take the pump off and clean that diaphragm. Ugh. Or, what I do lately is just shut off the city water and use the pump. LOL But the pump works great.

    I had a problem with out Girard Water heater -2 model not coming on. It requires about 0.7 to a gallon a minute flow min with the pump to come on. I took a empty milk jug to test and was only getting about .6 gallons a minute. Turns out it was the Everpure water filter cartridge on the outbound flow side of the water pump that was restricting the flow. Changed the filter and Viola! Much better flow now. I thinks those filters only last less than a year if your water has lots of minerals. Hope that helps someone because I spent a couple of days+ scratching my head to figure this out......

    looks like you need a better filter for the water you are instilling in your tank.

    Do you put down any towels under it when you removed it? Is there a lot of water that comes out when you do? I suppose I turn off the water pump before I do this? Any precautions to take?

    Will that stop the Fresh Water tank from filling up when using City Shore Water? We bought a used 2015 Palomino Puma and first time I connected water to the city water connection from my house to the camper it filled and over filled our Fresh Water tank, which we do not want to use at all. We only go to RV parks with full hookups. Is the pump causing my fresh water tank to overfill cause we did not fill the fresh water tank. Only hooked up city water from my house to test the water system before going on our trip. How can I stop the fresh water tank from filling? Thank you.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  4 роки тому +1

      Check the line from the city water connection to the rest of the system. You may have a "backflow" valve that is not working correctly. The backflow valve should keep water from literally backing up into the rest of the system. Using the city water connection bypasses the water pump. With some water in the fresh water tank, shut off the city water connection so there is no water coming into the camper, no water pressure. Turn on the water pump, run some water through the lines from the fresh water tank, turn off the spigots inside and try running the water a few more times. The pump has a backflow valve, it may be stuck and using the pump to move water may dislodge any junk in the valve. The backflow valve is "inside" the Shurflow pump, not the filter I showed in the video. You can take it apart as there are videos on UA-cam to show you how to do that. Hope you get it fixed. Sounds like a backflow valve issue to me. Good luck and happy camping. :) Michael

      Thanks I will try that when weather is a little warmer outside. I already drained all my water out of the fresh tank with the line under the tank to release the water. So now I have to reconnect everything and see if it the Fresh water tank fills up again; then do as you say. I hope its the fix. Thanks for your time. Happy New Year!

    I'd be flushing out the fresh water tank. Also, when traveling around; I would get a filter to hook on your hose when filling up at unknown water supplys.

      I filter all water. When traveling, do I really know the water source? I lived near DC, the only time I heard about water alerts and the need to boil drinking water was when they were stopped. We all started buying drinking water or using water filters.

    Thanks Garland! We purchased a 2015 Mini Lite because of your videos and just returned from a two week maiden voyage. The pump seems noisier than when we first started our trip but noticed yours was noisy also. Hoping that is normal but checking the strainer strainer today. What’s your opinion on the pump noise?

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  5 років тому

      Woo Hoo! :) The pump will always be heard. I could tell mine was louder than usual before fixing the issue, not it is much quieter. I've seen ppl take the pump base screws out, lay down a small rubber mat material and remount the pump. Also some will watch the pump & have someone inside turn it on and run water to see if there are any hoses banging against the sides of the trailer. You could also wrap some material around the pump, even a thick towel to muffle the sound if it really bothers you. :) Thanks for watching and have a ball! Keep up on the maintenance and it will last a long time. Did you join up with "Forest River Rockwood Mini Lite fan club" in FaceBook? HUGE amount of information there and very friendly folks. The screen on mine came out easily. Is it not suppose to? I'm having trouble with my new pump cycling. Old pump cycled constantly and now the new one did not remove the problem. Don't find any leaks anywhere. I don't think my mobile guy wanted to take the time to figure out the problem. 😔

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  7 місяців тому

      I couldn't get my screen out easily, but it SHOULD come out without a problem. You are ok there. If your pump is cycling often you have an air pressure problem somewhere. Mine does cycle about every 10 minutes or so but it is just keeping up the pressure on the lines. Personally, I ONLY keep the pump switch turned on IF we need to use water when dry camping. Therefore, it presents no immediate issue. If you don't see any water leaks in the camper, it could be due to a clamp not tightly clamping to a line "somewhere" in the camper. That would take forever to find. So? No water leaks, I'd just turn on the pump when needed and not sweat it. There are MANY clamps all over a camper, it would be insane to try to find a pinhole leak that causes the pressure to drop. Hope it all comes out ok. Just PLEASE check for any water leaks. That is the most important of all. Happy camping. 😀

    That gunk is coming from those Walmart charcoal filters that you connect to the hosebib prior to connecting your water hose. Get a quality water filter.

    Pump won’t activate, used 12 v Battery, proved mtr. Runs. How to trace electricity from switches is question or what may be ....

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  3 роки тому

      You're on the right track checking electrical cords. Check for an inline fuse running from the pump to the switch. There could be an inline fuse behind your pump switch location in the panel, or a wire has come loose behind the pump rocker switch in the panel. If the "switch" doesn't turn blue (depending on your camper model) when you turn it on, then there is a break in the cord or there is an inline fuse that may be blown. Also, check the Fuse panel, depending on your model and configuration, there could be a blown fuse there as well.
