No offense but the Distaff and Spindle fell out of use centuries before Wicca was invented by Gerald Gardner in the 1950s, so no wonder they'd be using it the wrong way.
Hello, I absolutely love your spindles on etsy! I was wondering if these spiral/notched spindles would work equally well for wool. I have never spun flax before and I don't even know where to get it! However, I have about a pound of wool that needs spinning! Would the wool spin alright on a spindle like this? It would certainly be nice to have a spindle that could spin both wool and maybe someday. flax.
+Blacklilly22 sure you can spin whatever you like on them. for example, i'm currently working though some cotton for hand towels and the spiral catches them nicely. i just wouldn't try to spin anything really bulky with it. all spindles i make are tested with wool first, as it's the most common fiber spun.
Hi there, I'm left handed, and I prefer to spin my flax counterclockwise. The terms s and z twist tend to confuse me, but if by so you mean counterclockwise, then yes
just a helpful tip, turn your phone side ways, vertical videos ahould be avoided at almost all costs. you can get an inexpensive cell phone tripod so that you can film horizontal videos.
The spinning is happening as the spindle turns. She is drafting the fibres with her right hand, and moistening them as she does so. Her left hand is twirling the spindle, so that the spinning takes place along the length between the spindle and her drafting hand.
I can see why you'd be confused, since at 3:38 she says "add a little spin," and her left hand is not moving while her right hand is. Then she says "roll it a little with your fingers," referring to her right hand holding the flax. Later you can see her flicking the spindle to spin it.
It is fabulous to find a left handed spinner. Thank you for sharing.
This is the step I was looking for! Thank you for this!
Gonna try it now. I have a lot of commercial flax and put it away when I could not find any videos of how to effectively spin it. Thanks!
Well done video. You are an excellent teacher
Thank you for posting--this was very helpful!
Very informative. I thought the distaff was also moving, since a maker posted a video of its use in Wiccan ceremony.

I've been looking for a video like this! Everyone else uses a hook and I couldn't figure out exactly how the grooves worked just from images.
How do you make the spindle, great job thanks
ОБОЖАЮ!!! I LOVE IT!!!🌷💖🌷🦙🦙🦙🦙🦙🦙🦙🦙🦙🦙🦙🦙I’m spinning Alpaka and llama!!!
Thank you for this video! I was wondering will the flaxseed goo work on singles from wool as well? And how do I make it?
Will you ply this to weave towels? If so how many plies?

Your spindle is exactly what I am looking to find for a class on drop spinning. Where should I look to purchase them?
Does the wet flax damage the spindle?
7Your spindle looks like it would be ideal for spinning silk hankies. Have you done that with your spindle?
Hi Caroline, are you left or right handed? And do you always spin your flax singles "S" ? Really great video and your spindles are beautiful. Thanks!

how does the stone stay on the end of the spindle?

I cannot tell what your left hand was doing from this video. Where is the spinning hapening? Is it with the left hand?
