Chicken cacciatore always brings back to mind a little story. Back in the day when I was in my late 20s (those were the days, my friend) I had my first garden ever. We lived on Puget Sound on an island on the water. Great fun. My neighbor was a character. He let his chickens run all over the place, and their favorite place was my garden. Clinton told us if we could trap them we could have them. So we made a rickety cage out of branches and fishing net propped up on a stick with a string. You know the kind, pull the string and the stick kicks out, dropping the cage and trapping the critter. We did catch all his chickens and added them to our little flock. We named our contraption, you guessed it. Chicken Catchatorium. Thank you for letting a nearly old lady ramble on. I will make this for sure. I made one batch months ago. It was pretty good. I like that you give us such variety and your cacciatore adds what mine was lacking. Good, great and better day all. Continued healing Jeni and family.
@@Jeni_Gough I'm watching this again today. I will be making this next week. You answered my question about no mushrooms :) but can I do this with cooked chicken? I have two whole chickens (small) that I want to cook up and take the meat off the bone. Thank you!
Jeni you give us a canuary every month all by yourself. Thank you for all you do for us. Honestly you prepare the best recipes. This looks delicious. Thank you.
My husband is a huge fan of yours, and he’s never even seen one of your videos. I always give you the credit for the delicious meal starters, and he always asks me to make more. BTW, you look lovely! Thank you for the wonderful ideas.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!! Raw pack with heated sauce! All I see is cooked meat and broth!! Confused me, thought you couldn't do it! True game changer!
I made chicken cacciatore when I was 24 and that is over 39 years. Made it for my ex father in law and they sure enjoyed it. I'll try your recipe..thank you
I love chicken cacciatore BUT my husband used to make it with a white sauce and for the life of me I can not remember how he did it, he added all the veggies and all like you did but no tomatoes, I have searched the internet for the recipe but can not find it anywhere. He was taught how to make it by his mother. I could kick myself for not paying more attention and for not writing it down. I really enjoyed this video, thank you so much and I am going to try to make this also.
Here's another great recipe that I'm going to be making. I love your recipes and have made several already. I won't be leaving anything out I like it as is.
I just made this recipe and it is so good. I canned 7 quarts and we had the left overs for dinner. I made enough to give to my friends and it will definitely be a recipe I will make again and again. Thank you so much.
These starters are so awesome. This is how I want to fill my pantry. Yes, I do want some ingredients, some veggies, BUT, this is what I know we will be eating on a regular basis. Yum. Get better soon😍
Yep, you’ve sold me on the prep a day, can a day thing..I prepped 6 heads of cabbage this evening down to chow-chow/sauerkraut size bits, and tomorrow, I will turn it into cans of both of those things-If there’s any cabbage left over, its going to be coleslaw for a dinner side. This sounds amazing, especially with the cream added after you open it. I’m saving this for my next chicken canning session, thanks!
I may be making this , real soon, but in pint jars.thank you , cooking friend ! I got my cuban blk beans in now, almost done, they sure smell really good!
Hi Jeni, I made this recipe as written. I didn't have any red wine so as you suggested I used chicken broth. I did 7 quarts. I ran a tad short on the sauce so I just topped off with a little more broth. I can't wait to serve this to my family. It smells sooo good. Thank you!
Made 14 pints today! had a little left over that was just enough for lunch. This is so delicious that I was hoping I'd have at least one that didn't seal to eat tomorrow. lol
Bet that would be good with pork. I like to take sauces I like and try with different types of meat and tweak it just a little for each one by spices. Love the color in that jar!
I come back to your channel because your tutorials feel pretty straight forward. I hear over and over on other channels, used tested and approved recipes. What does that mean in the canning world and how do I know if I am doing it safely. I would love a do and don’t do for beginner canners. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. For instance, is there a reason not to add black olives for safety reasons or is that just a preference.
@@Jeni_Gough , thank you, but by bit I am gaining confidence.I am slowly learning to pressure can with my electric presto pressure canner. So far just a few pints of meals in a jar from the Ball book. I only had chicken cacciatore once as a child and I loved it!! I definitely will get brave enough to do this recipe!!!
I love how you said you don’t have to put items in your jars. My hubby really doesn’t like peppers so I will leave them out and substitute more garlic and onions
You have so many great canning recipes. I’m so happy that I found your site. I’m a retired RN and a quilter. Can’t wait to try this recipe!

I love cacciatori. It's also called hunter's stew. Yes most fowl or game bird tastes so great in this. Reminds me I have some pheasant to do.
Cacciatore is hunters stew so whatever meat the hunter brings home is fair game. No pun intended!🤣
Yep!! It used to be more rabbit, chicken was for the wealthy! 😁
Jeni, you are looking like you again. Happy to see you back to canning.
Thank you! 😊
I love the meal starting canning sessions - I get some great ideas. Need more plz.

@@Akforgetmenot black olives have oil, I don’t want to take a chance they spoil in the middle of my jar and crate botulism.
