The music you using is fun.
Most people don't know about culantro. They used to be a Puerto Rican store down the highway but the little folks retired and that was it. I like that culantro better because it doesn't seem to lose its punch in the cooking process.

I grew up eating from a pot of beans on the stove. Canned beans work for me and reminds me of being a kid every time I open home canned beans.

Oh..boy kudos to you!!! I just tried the beans with some seasoned rice..wowzers..I'm in love..I put a bit of lime in them as well. I'm gonna put some smoked sausages with it and wrap it in the Naan bread for the hubby..hog heaven...❤🤪

Sounds delicious! Well, except for the cilantro lol. I have the dreaded "tastes like soap" gene. I'm going to try but substitute parsley. And possibly poblano for the cubanelle because I already have some frozen from my garden. Thanks for sharing!
I have family members that have that same gene so I use flat Italian parsley. It has a stronger flavor than curly parsley.

Yes they are. Just opened a jar I canned in 2019, pinto beans. They still tasted as if I'd made them all day today.

I speak food too LOL. This looks so delicious. It has all the flavors I love in one jar. Before canning it I would have to make a small batch just to see if my family would like them. I believe the peppers you are referring are Cachucha peppers, they are not spicy and they do have a particular taste. You can cut them up and put in a jar with vinegar and put it on the fridge. At least that is what we use to make Cuban black beans. I make Cuban black beans, which is similar to the puertorican and I can it . I love it because it’s ready to eat, just warm them up and pour over rice.

I don’t use any chiles hot peppers in my Puerto Rican sofrito. The small peppers are called aji dulce- sweet peppers

I always grow basil and have lots of it 9 months out of the year. Never thought of using it in sofrito. I always use cilantro, I think when my basil gets growing again I will make sofrito half and half cilantro and Basil. Thanks for the knowledge.
