You shouldn't use cone wrenches (referred to as narrow 'head' in the video), on pedal axles, or anything else for that matter. Cone wrenches are delicate and should be dedicated to adjusting cones.
thanks for your honesty and insight. I am looking into purchasing tools to do most of the work myself and this came at the right time. good luck at the nationals! best, rob
Hey Danny! I really like your channel. It is informative, interesting and very diverse. Like you, some of us love XC mountain biking. So it is nice to see stuff that isn't all about crashing down a mountain on a F.S. bike at full speed. I like to watch those channels too, but I learn more from you as I live on the Prairies (flat part). Keep up the great work! Winnipeg, Canada
But add up the cost of the tools you want out the tool kit buying it separately. Cable cutters Shimano TL-CT12 - $50 Chain Whip Shimano TL-SR22 - $40 Chain Breaker Shimano TL-CN28 - $20 and that's online pricing for a tiny portion of all the tools. For beginners who are serious about starting to wrench on their own bikes buy a quality tool kit. Yes you'll get tools that you won't use very often but you'll pay less as you're buying 'in bulk.' Same for when you buy a toolkit for your garage, buy that 300-500 piece toolkit - buying piece by piece you'll pay MORE for LESS tools.
Well, I just bought an awesome package off Amazon from Demon United. $99 USD got me a portable tool kit plus a solid bike stand plus a shop apron !! The one tool ( calibrated torque wrench) i had to buy separately almost cost the same amount. I was amazed at how good the Demon stuff is....was expecting junk for the low price.
That's why I have a 270 set from Craftsman on sale, that ended up costing me $54 (was on sale and came with $25 in reward points). Comes with most tools to work on a car, bike, and motorcycle. All the specialty tools can be purchased PRN. I've got the chain whip, thin wrenches, spoke tool, and cassette lock tool, and I'm still under the cost of a tool kit like this.
Are you saying Durianrider is unfriendly? He is the nicest guy I know, he's helped me save thousands of dollars by staying awake and not falling for some new marketing BS. Yeah he is a little straightforward but that's his Aussie nature. You gotta love that man
love your un biased reviews mate , I have all the tools I need ( bought separately ) and I can re build a bike from scratch with them , I don't think it cost me 50 quid for everything ( I use hollow tech and square taper equally ) , you can get a decent set of torx keys from Tesco for £5.00 and allen keys are included in that too , although I do use torque wrenches to tighten everything up , great review mate , keep them coming ;)
In my country it was cheaper to buy the set than the individual tools that I needed. And the bottom bracket is the right one in the set that i bought, so it was worth it for me.
many thanks dear, but I coundn't found the set of Shimano Brand above website. Could we order one set of Shimano Pro and Park Tool bicycle tools directly (as video adv)?! . For fu rther infomation pls contact us by email address. saigonphototours@gmail.com, with thanks. Your urgent reply is highly appreciated.
Really appreciate your videos. Fairly unbiased and informative. You have thick skin brother...all the negativity would drive me ugga bugga. Keep up the good work.
I suspect it’s unavailable due to trademark conflict issues. There as US brand on Amazon called “Pro Bike Tools”. Shimano calls it clothing, equipment and tool brand simply as PRO.
I do not see the point in having the crankset removal tool, casette removal tool or bb removal tool attached to those handles. They could put a wrench in there that could fit those tools without extra handles in the kit. Instead of the wasted space (and resources), they could have added those tools that he showed in the end.
you said that we don't need a pedal wrench which is wrong, on modern pedals we do, or at least a tool that is the same thickness. the tools you need or don't need depend on the specific bike. many mountain bike pedals need a tool like this, and you can't use a Allen key on the pedals.
you can get a decent quality kit with all the stuff you need on ebay or amazon for just 50$ to 100$ ,i also got a bike stand for 50$ and it's prettying good
I will never buy a tool set,you might get tools you will never need or tools you already got plenty of,and many of the tool sets don't have tools I need for my bike, the best thing you can do is buy the tools you need for the uses you have, the bikes you have. Some times there are tools that are better by a different brand, so for me there is no point in getting a tool set. So I have been buying most of the tools separately. Some tool sets are extremely expensive, and have a lot of tools that I will never need. I have used a lot of time on research.
@@journey4109 buy the tools you need for your bike, often toolkits can include tools you will never use, unless you have spesific bottom bracket or some spesific part, like huge thin spanners, cone wrenches when you might not need it for a modern bike.
Two minor complaints. 1) shouldn't use a cone wrench to remove a pedal...use a pedal wrench. 2) listen to others. GET RID OF THE CAMERA LENSE. WE HATE IT

Check the Super T Handle Metric set, a compact new design that solves the rotational problem when torque is not needed (at Amazon).

$40 for chain whip? Why?
OhAiShare
Never paid anything more than 15, no idea where you are that you paid so much.
Great video! Fast paced and to the point 👌🏽 also honest and very informative

This is a top video letting people know you don't need shimano or park tool full sets unless your a factory mechanic
Whilst I agree in the most part, there is something satisfying about having a nice, clean set of tools in their own box!

This "normal narrow wrench" i called cone spanner and is not suitable for pedals (cone spanner - klucz do konusów)

Thank you for the honesty Sir. I was wondering if tool kit is totally useful. But the answer is no. Because some of the tools is not a must.
Ya but many times its still cheaper to get the kit versus sourcing them out one by one. Even if you're getting less tools than the kit

What basic bike tool set do you recomend? I am a beginner.
AShahKhan Allen key
AShahKhan as advised, get a multi tool set as starters.
where can you buy this kit from??

Yes where i live you need it... the bike shops here charge you even for putting air in tires :)) screw the mechanics here.

Finally someone agrees thanks
WHY DO YOU TAKE THE PEDLES OFF YOUR BIKE, THE ONES HANGING ON THE WALL NEVER UNDER STOOD WHY
parktool or higher is the way to go, if you do or want to do good work
u can buy this tool box for 50 EUR new on ebay and i wud recommend it :)
👍
It would have been much easier to say these are the only tools you'll really need.
Just don’t understand the price for stamped tools, anybody could make most of these tools themselves.
That's 10 things you don't need ! WTF no use for me to get one rather spend the $ I save on I don't use on the 10 things and I get what I need custom for my bike !
This BB tool is definitely too short.
