I only played Cyberpunk 2077 for the first time after the Edgerunner finished so it was fixed by that time and it's my favorite game as of this moment, just as Phantom Liberty is my favorite DLC ever. Seeing how broken this game used to be is like seeing my child murdered in front of me. Dear god.

man I really wish game developers were allowed to fully finish their games and then go on leave after it releases instead of having to work beyond their stamina and enjoyment of the art up to the release only to be criticized for the execs' decisions and subsequently forced back into the office immediately to patch the game they knew should not have been shipped yet. Maybe once the shareholders aren't given priority. HAHAHHAAHAHAHAHAHA
Thinking about it, releasing the game too soon was the best call the company made with cyberpunk. It’s not really the devs being “forced back to work” since they would’ve been there working on it anyway if the company gave them time to finish it. If anything it just stops them from making any major overhauls so now the game finally HAS to get finished. Releasing it early just gave them a bunch of extra money to fund the development. Sure it tanked their reputation but now they’ve earned all that money and goodwill back, just for doing the same work any company that released a finish product would’ve done. If the current build was the day 1 release, I think it’d be a general meh, disappointing compared to the trailers but warmed up to over time, but now it looks like a huge redemption story because they showed us how bad a game can look without quality standards. Between that and segmenting content out as DLC you’d be crazy to release your game actually finished in 2024, fully finished games are NEVER coming back
@firewaffle222 we really don't need to be shown "how bad a game can look without quality standards", my brother in christ we have Starfield. Releasing half a product so you can give them the other half eventually after they paid for it at full price is usually super illegal and would be grounds for giving a sizeable amount of that money back. That doesn't happen because governments don't do anything to protect consumers anymore, but thanks for explaining in great detail the exact points venture capitalists who own controlling shares in game companies will use to justify unethical business decisions. Your post also leaves out horrible development working conditions, which lets be real who even cares about those amirite lmfao
since edgerunners my reaction to people going “wait 2077 is good? has been “it always was. well, sort of. kind of. to an extent”. my day 1 experience was pretty tame compared to most others which really let me get a feel of what this game could be if it got polished. the base of something good was always there (world, characters, story) it was just overshadowed by the rushed release and the lying about the game working on previous gen consoles. god wtf were they thinking saying that?

Just wanted to comment and let everyone know that this game is fully fixed now and its the best game I've ever played, I'm 60 hours into my first playthrough and I haven't had a single game breaking bug, and the 2 bugs I have had in my entire playthrough are likely due to mods and fixed themselves within seconds, one was a minor graphical bug with an NPC's clothing and the other was me falling through the map in a modded car with almost 2x the normal top speed lol.

I think a game where the most satisfying ending is the one where you blow your brains out is at least worth discussing. Not many games have the balls to just do that specifically. Maybe some have more satisfying bad endings but idk if I've ever seen a game treat that kind of option with such sincerity. Like yes you can just do that and it's a valid ending with credits and post game characters talking about how this affected them, not just black screen game over you can't do that.
You can tell by watching how Joe played this game that because he was likely already aware of the problems he went into this with a poisoned mindset. He went in expecting to hate it, actively looking for bugs or things to criticise. Was the game buggy and glitchy on launch? Definitely. It obviously needed a lot more time in the oven. But generally, if you played the game normally you weren't likely to experience game breaking bugs. I love watching Joe play games wrong, but you can just tell that he went into this with a bias.
