when at longer range a full scan only does 2 ticks and doesnt show you anything but ship name and em signature, is that good enough for subtargeting? because its a lot faster in that case, and i could see it being viable to use solo then.

actually makes a lot of sense they made this change espcially if they want to make Scout ships useful, if they do what i predict It means Party combat is going to have HUGE advantages not just multi crew ships but i'd assume Hive mind linking ship computers to share data in real time to give faster overlay construction of the area so the more ships hived the faster and more detailed the ships shared Nav Com data will get.
@@BuzzCutPsycho with the star map changes i wouldn't even doubt they could include a overwatch system where a ship with a cartography deck could place Markers and space out colored zones for your pilots to navigate safly
Thanks for explaining, I was wondering what happened to the sub targeting :) How about when you are in a turret, does the pilot need to do the scan, or every turret operator on their own? (I rarely fly with someone)
Seems like they only want you to scan large ships with single seater ships. I am assuming this scan gameplay will be an amazing benefit for multi crew game play. I hope they add someone’s scan to all units in your party, or org share so your org mates don’t have to be in your party to see a scanned ship. (Large scale battles for example).
Woah that’s interesting. Kinda a pain to scan but a thought popped in my head Pulling up in a stealth fighter shield off em low. Getting a scan off then blasting a ship component with ballistics sounds hype! Might take a loot at Sabre or something if that’s possible
I won't argue that scanning needs some work but at the moment being given a pip to target components in an f8 which can already shred most evading non fighters should take some work, cant block it but not the others even if it does have Terrapin level shields, travel at 1300 and put out 2 seater dps. Applies to being in an Arrow and targeting larger ships that cant even get a pip on them as well. At least we have a skill/knowledge curve since cycling to the thrusters on a Cutty or weak zones of alien ships for example or ships like the Vanguard or Corsair with weak wings that are already easy enough to focus on. A distortion fury can drop an Inferno in 2 jousts as it is lol or a ballistic build can prune several ships wings in seconds.
You're not wrong. This system is seemingly incomplete and far from fair and practice. My only hope is that it gives a spot for scanner ships to fulfill an awacs role and work as a team to provide info and lock information
I hope they make it so that once one person successfully scans the target anyone in the party will receive the scan data and be able to sub-target as well. This is a massive nerf, not looking forward to trying to scan while pulling 8+ Gs
Agreed, wish we had a vehicle with a dedicated scanner seat, small size, highly maneuverable, with plenty of armor, like the terrapin, capable of sharing scan details to the fleet
@BuzzCutPsycho yea so when you have to collect a bounty 20 years from now when cig finally decides to add that to the still in alpha game how are you gonna disable the ship
How could you have a secret guide that is secret if you're telling the world? That can't be too secret can it? This is Roy from Roy's Guide. Stay safe out there! And as always... Stay Cheesy.
yeah it was too easy before to just take someone who overpowered you out of commission by just targeting an engine. this is a good change so now you'll have to follow them around for a minute or so . it still seems a bit too long though, maybe they will divide the scanning into intervals where holding a scan on a ship for 10-15 seconds will give you one random component from their ship to lock onto, or a component that is currently creating a loud signature, then you just have to keep scanning to progress with additional targets if you want to shoot something else on their ship.
This is a dumb change. It's not like the engines and turrets are secret, hidden, unknown items that must be located with a scan. They're always in the same place on every ship of the same type, so presumably these would be standard information for any targeting computer to already have, in the same way the targeting computer can already identify the ship and even show you a diagram with damage information. I could see scanning being necessary for some unknown, alien vessel that had never been encountered before, or for targeting something hidden inside the ship (scans show explosive cargo in the ship, let's target that cargo and we can take the whole ship out in a single shot!). Having to scan to target the obvious? No, bad design.
Like I said I can only imagine it is for some system down the road we aren't aware of yet. You can still target engines manually using lag pip. I'll always side with gameplay mechanics over realism personality. I dont think this is terrible. To each his own. I'm more upset this wasn't communicated and I had to discover it by accident.
I,d be fine with this if the aim assist didn't always target the middle of a ship by default, right now it's kinda weird trying to manually shoot a specific part unless the ships are huge
excellent in theory but the application is horrible and makes it a broken feature. Scanning only works about 50% of the time. The rest of the time you have to scan over and over and you might get a result if you're lucky. You must also keep the reticle on the ship the entire time you scan which takes about 45 seconds when it works. At this point you might as well just shoot them since you can get through most ships in that amount of time.
This would be real cool of scanning worked 100% of the time and was faster, but who is gunna take the time to scan a moving target while being shot at, sorry but i feel sub targeting has gone from useful to not used at all now, also not sure why you have to scan a ship when you're ship tells you what kind of ship the other guy is flying when you target someone. i could see this if you had to get close to someone like say within a certain distance depending on the ship to target identify what ship someone is flying and then be able to subtarget but this just makes it totaly useless now.
I agree but I think it is part of a larger system not yet in place. May even be more friendly towards crewed ships. I doubt it is a final form of the system.
This seems like an absolutely absurd change to make. I mean I guess it kinda levels the playing field for the people like me who don't really like to subtarget anyways, at the same time, it makes sub targeting so extremely conditional I genuinely cannot think of a situation where it would be viable to get this off in any but the most controlled fights where you outnumber your targets greatly and can take some breathing room to drop the literal combat encounter you're in and full scan a single target just to be able to target them a little more specifically. BOOO CIG, BAD CHANGE.
@@BuzzCutPsycho Could finally give co-pilots something to actually do perhaps?
