Thanks for your video, I used it with my HTC m9 and now I am using it on my HTC 10 with Oreo! The newest version of TWRP (twrp-3.2.3-0-pme.img) no longer asks for the encryption thing. I believe when I installed twrp-3.1.1-0-pme.img on my HTC M9 it also didn't ask for encryption in case others come across this.
I wish I had watched this last night! Spent way too long on this last night.. Watched your video this morning and was done in 30 minutes.. Thank you!! Your bootloader video really helped as well!
Just wondering what the difference is between command prompt and powershell in Windows 10? Tried to root my unlocked M8 and want to root my HTC 10,but when I get to the ADB part where it requires Shift/Rt click to open command prompt, the only option is Powershell. Now that does not work, so far as I have tried, and opening a command prompt outside of the folder, does not work for me either. Any ideas?
Successful Root! Thank you so much! Also to point out to those who decide to follow these directions from now on as well as the unlocking bootloader directions, on the command prompt when checking for adb devices you might get the message "adb server is out of date. killing... * daemon started successfully *" That is okay. Continue to the next step. For some reason the latest version is spitting that out this message instead of what Rootjunky.com shows in the video. Great job in the tutorial. And this is coming from someone who would NOT consider himself "tech savvy". Just make sure you read everything that Rootjunky.com tells you and then some while using good common sense and you should be good! Thanks again!!

Hi !! in my attempt to install TWRP when I select boot to recovery , the htc logo appear and a message in red " This build is for development purpose only Do not distribute outside of htc without htc's permission... and phone just reboot to normal use by itself. Also , under developer options the "OEM unlocking" is light gray and already checked . ( I don't have the choice to allow or not bootloader to be unlock. Thanks .
Apparently you need the latest twrp version to flash twrp in Nougat 7.0. Please check the XDA developers page: forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3358139

apparently the decryption thing is fixed now: I used twrp 3.0.2-6. it didn't ask for a password and said: "decrypted succesfully with default password"
I was not able to do the sideload. So I installed the zip through the SD card . When I flashed the Super SU zip , it did all the same moves as seen on your sideload. Once in first Viper boot-up it seems to be all good then instead of asking set up question I keep getting "Setup Wizard stop" I don't know if it has to do with that "Red Message" or a file error.
After more reading on xda and watching more videos. I have replace TWRP with 3.0.3-6 don't seems to be different from 3.0.3-9 . Anyway I did Re-Flash Viper without a gapps package and it has worked. At least phone booted completely but it is unstable. Any page it's on does have a lil' twitch . (still see some "wizard stop working" or "...message) . So I did re-flash lineage-14.1-20170303 with open gapps arm64-7.1 pico. At reboot time it did ask for a password. I did reboot into recovery and format data after declining the password of TWRP. When I backed up my phone with TWRP for the first time, I didn't have the Recovery or Android Secure options. Any thoughts? Could that be why whenever I restore a backup of a custom ROM it won't boot past the silver HTC logo and TWRP tells me that it could not mount the /system folder?
Will it anyhow work for htc desire 828 , if not then do you know any working links to htc desire 828 twrp recovery ? Because none of the links seem to be working on the internet
Many thanks, mate. Followed your procedure and it worked. I also installed a custom ROM (Lineage OS). But now I want my old HTC Sense back, which is why I guess we took that backup before rooting the device. So after I restore the backup, the phone boots up and asks for Decryption. What should I do?
Hello I wanted to install on mei HTC a9 the Rome LineageOS. Have the steps that should be made synonymous made. But when I do a reboot the system does not start with Lineage 14.1 but it get back into the mode where the recovery is pure. Where is it?
I installed twrp(latest version 3.1.0l1) and rooted the phone but now, when i try starting into Nougat 7.0 the htc logo appear and a message in red " This build is for development purpose only Do not distribute outside of htc without htc's permission... and it shuts down and reboots again and so on
Actually I fixed it. As the phone keeps rebooting try to hold Volume Down and Power button when the screen goes black, until you get into Download mode. From there go to Bootloader mode, and then from there boot into Recovery mode. Once you've done that select restore, and select the backup you've made. After that uncheck system and leave everything else checked, and click restore. I hope this helps, it worked for me.
I DID THIS AND MY HTC 10 HAS STOP WORKING DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED TOP ROOTKING FROM THE INTERNET WITH MY PHONE WENT TO SETTINGS, WENT TO DEVELOPER OPTIONS WENT TO OEM UNLOCKING [ ENABLE IT ] WENT TO USB DEBUGGING [ ENABLE IT ] BACK TO OPEN THE TOP ROOTKING APP BUT DID NOT UNROOT TO 100% STOPS AT 80% FOR A WHILE I DECIDED TO OFF MY PHONE AND ON IT AGAIN THAN, MY PHONE WILL NOT COME FULLY FOR ME TO USE IT JUST COME ON WITH THE HTC LOGO ON IT JUST LIKE THAT PLEASE I NEEDS HELP
+Rootjunky.com could you make a ROM video once you figure out what your going to do? I think viper will be the best bet until someone builds an unofficial aosp rom.
Hey @rootjunky.com quick question. I have no rooted my 10 yet and I have the Verizon variant. The Verizon 10 is going to have the latest update tomorrow. So if I updated to the latest firmware is the root method the same or do I have to wait for a different way?
Hello friend, sorry, I have a question, I want to be a super user, but I have android 7.0 htc m10, I'd like to know if I can install TWRP and if I do not take a risk by doing the steps to unlock Bootloader and install TWRP and Root, apologize for my bad english already I am using translator, thank you, if you could help me or someone who could help me THANK YOU GREETINGS ...
Thanks! , everything worked but my HTC 10 did not show any problem decrypting a date , it said it was successful , maybe they updated it and you want to update your guide?
@@mohammadbinjabair143 Yeah I did but it was quite some time ago. I think my bootloader wasn't opened because you need to follow much more steps on a htc phone, not standard instruction. You need to check out other videos strictly about htc phones and just follow instructions, because what does the trick on any other phone doesn't do it on HTC. I might be remembering it incorrectly but I think that's it. There is an instruction on the htc website, i watched a tutorial for the tutorial from the htc site and it worked haha. There should be a video showing the whole process for the htc phones in one video
@@januszkurahenowski2860 whare dude give me link and I unlocked bootloader and tryed. And TWRP option is not getting in my phone tell me if you have any solution
you mean the modified supersu? if you flash a normal one, you'd lose your phone signal, your sim won't work. Unless you manually set flag for forceencryption in the supersu file and flaah that
i used your vid to unlock my htc 10. and i rooted it with the vid from droidmodder....it went fine with no signal loss. but i want to s-off the device but before i do i want to know if it will wipe my data, and if there is anything special i need to do to keep my signal through the s-off process. everything is working 100% as of now after root
hi when i followed your steps, on the last step of superSu i did exactly the same this as yo said and when i clicked on reboot system and then my day has fucked up my phone start to restart it self contain a red message ( this build is for develeplment purpose only do not distrubute ..... and i can't turn on my phone again i have HTC m9 please come back to me ASAP with a Fix plzzz
After I flash TWRP I get stuck on the HTC screen when trying to enter recovery mode. Any ideas? The XDA forums all have successful attempts but no one has responded yet :(
it is done. you made it so simple and easy. you should be a teacher! thanks a bunch!! now that I'm rooted I don't know what to do with it. are there any roms for the 10 yet besides Lee droid. viper will be soon. would love aosp rom(unlikely) look forward to more of your videos. thank you!!!!!
I followed your bootloader video and this video and everything went ok. My phone is unlocked and rooted. I wanted to s-off so it will work on a Verizon network but now it won't let me connect to any Wifi. It doesn't even show the Wifi symbol up top by the data symbol. When I click to turn on the Wifi it doesn't do anything. If I go into settings it will toggle to the on position but not light up. I can restart the phone and the Wifi symbol is lit up in the menu but still not showing next to the data. It will show available networks when I click on it in settings after the restart and it asks for the password but then nothing happens. It just doesn't connect or even give an error message. It just doesn't do anything. Any ideas on what's going on and how to fix it?... Just a side note: When I do a hard reset it says unlocked but it also says download mode. Is that what it's supposed to stay in after doing these steps?
Hello! I just got the HTC 10 [EU Version Code, PERFUME_UHL (pme), x.xxx.401.x]. I unlocked the bootloader via htcdev, flashed TWRP 3.0.2-6 touch, rooted via SR4-SuperSU-v2.78 and installed the latest Resurrection Remix M (v5.7.4 BlackMix). I did not buy SunShine and did not go S-OFF... I am able to restore a nandroid backup via TWRP but for the love of god - I cannot recieve any updates whatsoever because my phone still says "System Status: Modified". I can re-lock and un-re-lock my bootloader as much as I want but I cannot flash any RUUs because I get the message "FAIL19 RU_MAIN_VER_FAIL os-version in android-info missing or i"... Am I missing something? Maybe it has something to do with that "allow modifications" / "keep read only" start screen in TWRP? I just want to get back to stock with an unmodified system, S-ON and official OTA Updates... Can you or someone here help me? Much appreciated!!!
Probably flashed the wrong TWRP. UA-cam videos become irrelevant quickly. Best place to get the latest info is the TWRP thread on XDA: forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3358139
Thanks again for the these great tutorials! Some notes if you have adb.exe issues uninstall HTC Sync. Also google now offers minimal adb install package (developer.android.com/studio/index.html). I did all your tutorials 07/2017 running android 6.0.1. I installed BETA-SuperSU-v2.68-20160228150503.zip and twrp-3.0.0-2-hima.img.

I get the following error when sideloading the SuperSU-v2.72-forceencrypt.zip Starting ABD sideload feature... You need adb 1.0.32 or newer to sideload to this device. I've downloaded ADB FASTBOOT FILES WINDOWS.zip from your site :-/ adb version is showing me: 1.0.32 File I'm trying to sideload is SuperSU-v2.72-forceencrypt.zip (note: v2.72)! All other ADB commands are working fine!
+Rootjunky.com The ADB file is version 1.0.32 (downloaded from your site). Anyway. I've solved the problem by doing it the "old way" (Moved the file to the SD and installed it with TWRP) Keep up the good work!
+Said Soueidan Had same exact issue so I just flashed as usual via TWRP install button from my external SD Card. Assume you already did that by now but if not, that's how I handled that error. Cheers!
DO NOT USE supersu.zip from the video on android 7.0 or you will get stuck in boot loop. Use this one instead: forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
Had a double scare! First with the boot loop and then with the side load fail with the good SU. Used an older ADB which caused it. Updated ADB and all is well.
RootJunky, Jcase on XDA has changed the tutorial completely (forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/how-to/guide-root-optionally-s-off-radio-t3373025). Should I flash the modified SuperSU like you did in the video, or follow the tutorial and flash the newest one ?
I kept getting the following error when attempting to sideload the latest SuperSU (v2.74-2) "adb server version 31 does not match this client 36" I determined the error was caused by the ADB drivers that came with "HTC Sync". The problem went away after I uninstalled "HTC Sync" and installed the Universal Windows ADB Driver from "www.koushikdutta.com/post/universal-adb-driver" Thanks for the amazing tut!
Hmm I'm following your great video, but it looks like my "create backup" is hanging at 44% (*generating md5) Progress: 3185MB of 7149MB, 44% UPDATE.. All is fine now... It looks like it was hanging as it took several minutes, and was not moving from 44%. I guess that the generating md5 takes a long time :-)
+ Rootjunky.com Would you know of this process would work for HTC One M9+ (with Mediatek processor)? I have successfully S-Off, Unlocked Bootloader, installed SuperSU and Rooted. I want to now install TWRP 3.0.2 in it... Thanks in advance!

Now that does not work, so far as I have tried, and opening a command prompt outside of the folder, does not work for me either. Any ideas?
Successful Root! Thank you so much! Also to point out to those who decide to follow these directions from now on as well as the unlocking bootloader directions, on the command prompt when checking for adb devices you might get the message "adb server is out of date. killing...

The superSu goes with me not at all
Where is it?
I installed twrp(latest version 3.1.0l1) and rooted the phone but now, when i try starting into Nougat 7.0 the htc logo appear and a message in red " This build is for development purpose only Do not distribute outside of htc without htc's permission...
and it shuts down and reboots again and so on
Same here
Help woukd be great
Actually I fixed it. I hope this helps, it worked for me.
yes but you can't install the viper 10 rom
I did that too but it won't have root access afterwards
I DID THIS AND MY HTC 10 HAS STOP WORKING
DOWNLOADED AND INSTALLED TOP ROOTKING FROM THE INTERNET WITH MY PHONE
WENT TO SETTINGS,
WENT TO DEVELOPER OPTIONS
WENT TO OEM UNLOCKING [ ENABLE IT ]
WENT TO USB DEBUGGING [ ENABLE IT ]
BACK TO OPEN THE TOP ROOTKING APP BUT DID NOT UNROOT TO 100% STOPS AT 80%
FOR A WHILE I DECIDED TO OFF MY PHONE AND ON IT AGAIN THAN,
MY PHONE WILL NOT COME FULLY FOR ME TO USE IT JUST COME ON WITH THE HTC LOGO ON IT JUST LIKE THAT
PLEASE I NEEDS HELP
all right. here we go. thank you. what Rom do you plan on putting on it?
+Jeppy M that is a good question. I am hoping viper rom is available but we will see
+Rootjunky.com could you make a ROM video once you figure out what your going to do? I think viper will be the best bet until someone builds an unofficial aosp rom.
Jeppy M for sure
I have HTC 10 RADIO SIGNALS is not showing on the device.. please help
Is it an issue that in twrp there is no Android Secure partition?
Extremely helpful, thanks!
glad i could help
Hey @rootjunky.com quick question. I have no rooted my 10 yet and I have the Verizon variant. The Verizon 10 is going to have the latest update tomorrow. So if I updated to the latest firmware is the root method the same or do I have to wait for a different way?
+George Da Silva can't root the Verizon htc 10 at this time unless you send it in to jcase and have him unlock the bootloader for you
Okay 2 question for you. How do I send it and how long is the process until I get my phone back?
Check at the root.Ninja
Thanks bro, got all the information ℹ need.
After running the backup my smartphone has entered an infinite reboot loop. Not starting the operating system. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I some how skipped the back up part... Is it a problem if I do a backup after installing supersu?? Thanks...
+Lurien Santiago nope just means your backup with have SuperSU on it
+Lurien Santiago nope just means your backup with have SuperSU on it
Can you make a tutorial on how to extract the stock recovery.img from the OTA firmware.zip and flash that ?
good idea
Hello friend, sorry, I have a question, I want to be a super user, but I have android 7.0 htc m10, I'd like to know if I can install TWRP and if I do not take a risk by doing the steps to unlock Bootloader and install TWRP and Root, apologize for my bad english already I am using translator, thank you, if you could help me or someone who could help me THANK YOU GREETINGS ...
Thanks! , everything worked but my HTC 10 did not show any problem decrypting a date , it said it was successful , maybe they updated it and you want to update your guide?
why the phone recognizes adb reboot but wont recognize fastboot flash recovery?
same for me, goes into download mode but then doesnt see the phone
@@januszkurahenowski2860 did you got any solution?
Did you finded any solution?
what would happen if you didn't flash the modified suppers
you mean the modified supersu? if you flash a normal one, you'd lose your phone signal, your sim won't work. Unless you manually set flag for forceencryption in the supersu file and flaah that
hey, is it a way to do it if the cellphone is stuck on logo?
Why didn't you put a SIM card so we can see if radio is working properly?
i used your vid to unlock my htc 10. and i rooted it with the vid from droidmodder....it went fine with no signal loss. but i want to s-off the device but before i do i want to know if it will wipe my data, and if there is anything special i need to do to keep my signal through the s-off process. everything is working 100% as of now after root
+Kingomegared yes from what i have read it will wipe your data. just make a namdroid back of your system-image and boot and you should be good.
hay. was just wondering if its the same procedure for Nougat firmware?
thnx
hi man could u make a video for how to update htc10 to Viper10 4.2.0(android 7.0) Thanks

What would happen if i dont use data recovery?
Does this work with the oreo update (8.0.0) for htc 10?
I dont have sd card on my phone...what should i do?
After I flash TWRP I get stuck on the HTC screen when trying to enter recovery mode. Any ideas? The XDA forums all have successful attempts but no one has responded yet :(
nvm figured it out, had the wrong TWRP (was using HTC 10 instead of HTC 10 evo - which is the bolt LOL)
thanks a ton for this walkthrough!

@Rootjunky.com Will I get OTA after this? Or should I go with the usual RUU flashing?
it is done. you made it so simple and easy. you should be a teacher! thanks a bunch!! now that I'm rooted I don't know what to do with it. are there any roms for the 10 yet besides Lee droid. viper will be soon. would love aosp rom(unlikely) look forward to more of your videos. thank you!!!!!
+Jeppy M for me, viper was the best rom i used for the M8. they said their beta will be released by the 12th of this month i think. i cant wait!!
+Jeppy M yeah i will be showing off viper for sure and maybe some others also
+Rootjunky.com nice. Hey do you know why the recent OTA will download but says corrupted when I try to install?? is it because of root??
Kingomegared you can't take Ota updates once rooted
Kingomegared you will have to restore your backups then flash stock recovery to take Ota updates
Don't ask me how but I managed to get the Wifi up and running after playing with some settings. Thank you!
any custom rom for htc m9+...i repeat m9pw opk7110...pls help
I cant swipe in TWRP. The touch screen is unresponsive at all (it doesn't hang).. Anybody has the same problem? Thanks.
I flashed mine but it won't boot into twrp...grrrr
Probably flashed the wrong TWRP. UA-cam videos become irrelevant quickly. Best place to get the latest info is the TWRP thread on XDA: forum.xda-developers.com/htc-10/development/recovery-twrp-touch-recovery-t3358139
Okay thanks
cause i know ones you flash twrp.. the stock recovey is gone that would suck..
There is no stock recovery for this phone. That's the point.
can anyone tell me if it is OK to OTA nougat and use it for a while before using this root method?
Thanks again for the these great tutorials!
Some notes if you have adb.exe issues uninstall HTC Sync. Also google now offers minimal adb install package (developer.android.com/studio/index.html). I did all your tutorials 07/2017 running android 6.0.1. I installed BETA-SuperSU-v2.68-20160228150503.zip and twrp-3.0.0-2-hima.img.

Hello, this method works without HTC 10 European?
Thanks
why is the image file corupted when i add it to cmd
rootjunky.com
when i go boot to recovery mode, i dont get a twrp system on screen, just an htc with a warning sign, why's that? I donwloaded all the files already
I get the following error when sideloading the SuperSU-v2.72-forceencrypt.zip
Starting ABD sideload feature... You need adb 1.0.32 or newer to sideload to this device.
I've downloaded ADB FASTBOOT FILES WINDOWS.zip from your site :-/
adb version is showing me: 1.0.32
File I'm trying to sideload is SuperSU-v2.72-forceencrypt.zip (note: v2.72)!
All other ADB commands are working fine!
+n03l update your adb and fastboot files then
+Rootjunky.com The ADB file is version 1.0.32 (downloaded from your site).
Anyway. I've solved the problem by doing it the "old way" (Moved the file to the SD and installed it with TWRP)
Keep up the good work!
n03l that works also. I just like showing other methods some times
Fails says I need ADB version 1.0.32 or higher and in cmd I do have 1.0.32
+Said Soueidan Had same exact issue so I just flashed as usual via TWRP install button from my external SD Card. Assume you already did that by now but if not, that's how I handled that error. Cheers!
Yup that's what I did! Good assumption!
DO NOT USE supersu.zip from the video on android 7.0 or you will get stuck in boot loop. Use this one instead:
forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu/2014-09-02-supersu-v2-05-t2868133
thank u it worked!!
save my day
Had a double scare! First with the boot loop and then with the side load fail with the good SU. Used an older ADB which caused it. Updated ADB and all is well.
you just saved my ass thank you sir

how to fix htc 10 home button
Can you do a video for the U11?
thanks for detailed explanation but I wanna ur help. my mobile couldn't reboot on download mode. could u please give me a hand?!!
Im on 1.90. latest htc firmaware btw. if that means anything
Please make a video on how to root HTC Desire 530.
hi can you flash for me also? I have a couple of those..
adb server (31) doesn't match to server 41 can't fix
update your adb files with the android SDK
can you please help me personally? because I've tried many SDK platform tools non of them working for my adb device...
it doesn't install SuperSU, it fails I don't know why. Please help.
it's stopping at 62%, it's aborting after installing sepolicy or something like that.
I kept getting the following error when attempting to sideload the latest SuperSU (v2.74-2)
"adb server version 31 does not match this client 36"
I determined the error was caused by the ADB drivers that came with "HTC Sync".
The problem went away after I uninstalled "HTC Sync" and installed the Universal Windows ADB Driver from "www.koushikdutta.com/post/universal-adb-driver"
Thanks for the amazing tut!
Your fixed worked for me. Thanks
can it work on HTC desire526

nope.
The SuperSU forceencrypt file he linked to in the descryption ha been modified to solve that issue
how to ubdate HTC U play new android?
Hmm I'm following your great video, but it looks like my "create backup" is hanging at 44% (*generating md5)
Progress: 3185MB of 7149MB, 44%
UPDATE.. All is fine now... It looks like it was hanging as it took several minutes, and was not moving from 44%.
I guess that the generating md5 takes a long time :-)
+n03l yes the md5 takes some time
+ Rootjunky.com
Would you know of this process would work for HTC One M9+ (with Mediatek processor)?
I have successfully S-Off, Unlocked Bootloader, installed SuperSU and Rooted.
I want to now install TWRP 3.0.2 in it...
