Great video EDBO23. I live in NE Louisiana and have been flintknapping for about two years, all I have to work with is citronelle gravel. It was frustrating at first, all the videos I found were people knapping big rocks. I learned a lot from those videos but sometimes it was hard to translate what I saw in the videos to the pieces of gravel I was working with. I still enjoy busting a piece of brown rock open to see what's inside. Thanks again, great video. Take Care, John
I live in the same area and understand the struggle! Every so often I come across some larger pieces. For the most part the material is small enough that one little mistake and it's blown.
@@alberthicks4442 i dont live on the shore. i live on the other side of maryland. where i can tell you from looking hard there is no knappable stone here. As far as the shore is concerned if there is knappable rock there iv never seen any?!
I don’t think he was being sarcastic. I’m in MD too. Apparently there is some chert to be found but it’s in that arm of western MD that is basically west va. We’ve got quartz/quartzite which is knappable but tough
@@theabhorrentchef7226 true. iv found chert in wv. but none in maryland. i love flint knapping but rock is expensive. I knap alot of glass. but i would love to beable to find rock like people in other states. Might have to take a trip.
@Jason Myers I’ve been knapping glass a lot lately too. I’ve got a huge chunk of mahogany obsidian and one of texas chert and still a decent amount of mixed spalls but I save those to work on in between learning lessons on cheaper materials. I’ve flaked enough nice stone down to useless nubs lol. I’m starting to get a little feel for this though. There’s a place called glass butte in Oregon where apparently you can go find obsidian and there’s a limit of 250lb per person. I have a little dream of driving out there for a couple days and loading up but I’d definitely like to find a closer place to hunt. I’ve been watching some floor tile knapping lately and will give that a try soon
excellent controlled technique. I have been inspired by your work. have practiced for two years now, and have found my local flint tough. have some very worn hammer stones.

Yes, I lived in southern MS for a very long time. For many years it was all I had.
This is the exact same gravel we have on Crowley's Ridge in northeast Arkansas. It works just the same.
Thank you, I have enjoyed all your videos....waiting for more....
How much would you charge to ship me some of that?
Sorry, I don't sell anything anymore. Thanks for watching!
Good video. About the size of rocks I can get around here
You sir, are the real deal.
Nice video. I really like that material. It doesn't matter if its small. It has its own desirable qualities. Do you collect it yourself?
Great video. I have a friend heading that way in a few weeks. I'll show him this.
Man, you are impressive. I'd give my eye teeth to be able to do that!!!
Sorry, I don't plan to go there again anytime soon.
