I have watched a ton of videos on this, and this is the best one. You were to the point and the marker made it very easy to see what you were talking about.
Seriously Dude! I learned more in under 7 minutes watching your video, than I did watching another UA-camr guy for over an hour and a half! Excellent instructions! Clear and concise! Natural born teacher. Thank you!
Man, this is one of the best explanations that made addressing and creating platforms make more sense to me. Especially on the 90deg surfaces and how to go about attacking them. Thanks for the video!
best understanding of flintknapping Ive come across yet. As an artifact hunter you get curious about how knapping is done. This gives me a great idea of how certain pieces were made and how amazing many natives were at knapping.
Thank you so much. I needed this video very bad. The whole platform thing has been tough for me to grasp. Thank you for taking your time, to make videos to help the serious rookie like myself.
This helped tremendously, and gave me an idea about what to do with a window pane, that I have lying around. I love the fact that million people explain it in 30 minute videos, you make it 4 times shorter and made 4 times better!
You make a good teacher. When beginning anything you dont know what all the terminology is and you dang sure dont know what you're doing but your video teaching technique is very informative. Thank you for doing it right!
Brother you explained this process in such defined detail that anyone should understand the basics of what actually goes into one of the beautiful pieces you guys do! Thank you so much for breaking it down and simplifying this process! You are the MAN!!
Thank you so much! I bought a book about 25 years ago but this stuff is so much better in video form. Using the magic marker really helped a lot too. You did a great job demonstrating and teaching and I appreciate it.
This video was so good and I think Im going to enjoy more your videos. I am a undergraduate archaeology student studying a lithic analysis course. I just know this video is going to help me and Im sure alot more of your content on this channel will help as well. Thanks a million.
That is so cool.Thank you for your patience on teaching iv learned so much from your vedio's. No one else explains step by step like you do thank you so much.👍
Awesome work I have seen a few videos and also been where they try to explain this and you are the most accurate person to explain it. the toilet porcelain. thanks
This was awsome. I kinda figured part of this out on my own napping glass. But watching that square bit of porsilin get shaped just added so much. Other people need to take notes on making short to the point how toos like this
just started knapping since its near impossible to get a reliable source of flints for flintlock black powder shooting, your videos have already helped so much!
I have several Native American friends. One of them makes traditional pipes; he told me that you don't make the stone into what you want; the stone tells you what it wants to be. 😁
Thank you for an exceptionally descriptive lesson. Your estimates of the flake removal shape and size were also right on; the best lesson to start with I've seen. Reminds me of earlier today I guessed the quarter mile ET of a stock 69 GTO within .9 of a second. 13. 03 to 13. 90 actual. Subbed.
THANK YOU! I now know what to call the artifacts I find that I always used to call them "clam shell" because I never knew! :-) The preform. And the way you SHOW what is happing helps us "visual" learners a lot!
Actually, I believe that's from Missouri. I live in S. Missouri & get & Have a lot of it. I used to call it porcelain rock till I watched your videos over and over. Thank You Sir
This is great info! Too many videos on YT talking about platforms, nobody dares to make actual predictions on what would happen when strinking, but you. Watching you mark the spot to hit and the flake that will come off is super interesting and informative. Of course there's more to it, I strongly believe YT videos are not substitute for experience, but still, super useful. Like many others said, "finally"!
I majored in Archaeology, with an emphasis on lithic analysis. I've been meaning to start knapping again for years, but now I'm gonna get out in The garage!
@@seeharvester Damn it's been a minute, but it's usually mourning doves, cardinals and a few others I don't know given it's the same birds today as then
This video should be pinned to every other video about knapping. So many of them you can watch and wonder, what does he mean by platform? What makes a good platform?
Can i make a spearhead only using an hammerstone? Without antler and using only a pressureflaker made out of wood? Because i can't find antler in my area... if you want you could make a video using only this two things... let me know. Beautiful video btw
Finally, someone explained this in a way that I now have a much better understanding of what a platform is. Thanks Greg.
Agreed. Top notch jargon busting!
I appreciated the ceramic piece a lot
I was coming to comment this exactly but the comment was already here!
Was gonna comment the same thing 👍
My thoughts exactly !
THANK YOU

300 flintknap videos. This is the only one that really does try to explain this well. Thank you
Man, this is one of the best explanations that made addressing and creating platforms make more sense to me. Especially on the 90deg surfaces and how to go about attacking them. Thanks for the video!
Vielen Dank für diese Vorführung!
Jetzt habe ich verstanden wie "Platforms" entstehen!
One of the best tutorials I've seen . Until now I had no idea what a platform was. Heard the term but never heard anyone explain it. Thank you.
best understanding of flintknapping Ive come across yet. As an artifact hunter you get curious about how knapping is done. This gives me a great idea of how certain pieces were made and how amazing many natives were at knapping.
And that’s how you demystify platforms. Well done sir.
Single handedly the most useful video on this topic that I’ve ever seen...
Thank you so much. I needed this video very bad. The whole platform thing has been tough for me to grasp. Thank you for taking your time, to make videos to help the serious rookie like myself.

Hands down best explanation I’ve seen yet. Thank you very much sir
This helped tremendously, and gave me an idea about what to do with a window pane, that I have lying around.
I love the fact that million people explain it in 30 minute videos, you make it 4 times shorter and made 4 times better!
Aleksandar Mandic thanks!
You make a good teacher. When beginning anything you dont know what all the terminology is and you dang sure dont know what you're doing but your video teaching technique is very informative. Thank you for doing it right!
I watch videos for years and it's the first time a visual like could understand... VERY VERY appreciate sir! Merci beaucoup!

Awesome work I have seen a few videos and also been where they try to explain this and you are the most accurate person to explain it. the toilet porcelain. thanks
Your flintnapping videos are great
This was awsome. I kinda figured part of this out on my own napping glass. But watching that square bit of porsilin get shaped just added so much.
Other people need to take notes on making short to the point how toos like this
I love the video! You are very informative and I especially appreciate you including where you get your flint from!
just started knapping since its near impossible to get a reliable source of flints for flintlock black powder shooting, your videos have already helped so much!
The most informative sub 7 minutes of my life...thank you 👏🏼
Thank you for the best information on flint napping I have ever come Cross!!!
Very helpful video sir. Well put together and right to the point! Will be watching more of your videos! Thank you for taking the time to make them.
Single best video explaining, and showing the process.
Subscribing now
I really love all your videos, from singing to flintknapping, to walking pet deer
Braden Myler thanks!
I have several Native American friends. One of them makes traditional pipes; he told me that you don't make the stone into what you want; the stone tells you what it wants to be. 😁
He was high

Subbed simply because you drew the platform so there was no guesswork, unlike every other video I've watched.
THANK YOU! I now know what to call the artifacts I find that I always used to call them "clam shell" because I never knew! :-) The preform. And the way you SHOW what is happing helps us "visual" learners a lot!
You are an awesome instructor. Great video and thanks for sharing!
Thanks for such a great knowledge
You explain it in a very effective way 👍👍....🙏
You said it in a perfect way where I could understand it thank you so much.
Thank you for that. Best instructional video on knapping that I,'ve seen. Think I'll be able to move forward thanks to this.
Excellent explanation. Now I get it. Thank you! Great job.
Actually, I believe that's from Missouri. I live in S. Missouri & get & Have a lot of it. I used to call it porcelain rock till I watched your videos over and over. Thank You Sir
Omg! Nobody explain the process like you , i'll try it
This is the only video that made sense to me. Thank you
This is great info! Too many videos on YT talking about platforms, nobody dares to make actual predictions on what would happen when strinking, but you.

I majored in Archaeology, with an emphasis on lithic analysis. I've been meaning to start knapping again for years, but now I'm gonna get out in The garage!
Really good video I enjoyed it thanks Gene Gorringe Mi 👍 ✌️ 🇺🇲
I hear the birds, its 4:30 AM, but damn I need to know about platforms in flint knapping
Black Baron preach on. Its 3:50 atm for me. I learned you can stab some shit with a toilet.
I've just watched 3 hours of primitive stuff 😵 midnight
You are at the right place.
What kind of birds?
@@seeharvester Damn it's been a minute, but it's usually mourning doves, cardinals and a few others I don't know given it's the same birds today as then
I subbed only 30 seconds into the vid because I feel like you make all the content I want to watch
This is a really smart idea for teaching flint knapping
That explanation I understood. Thank you. This is my biggest issue is getting platforms started to thin my piece.
Jamie White thanks. It took me years to learn something so simple
This video should be pinned to every other video about knapping. So many of them you can watch and wonder, what does he mean by platform? What makes a good platform?
excellent video my friend, simple but very helpful!
Very simply put, absolutely excellent video, thank you sir!
Great work! very well explained!
Awesome thanks for the much more informative version. Definetly helps!
Needed this, thanks. Very good explanation 👍
Such a great explanation! 👍
Great flintknapping series!
Thanks a lot for sharing :)
Great video. do you have something like this for pressure flaking? Thank you!
Perfect explanation, thank you! Going to try making my own spear :)
Thank you for sharing! I can’t wait to get my knapping tool kit to get to work
Which lithic industry would this belong to more or less?
Thanks for sharing 👍. That was brilliant
Thanks! I'm just getting into flint knapping and this was really helpful!
learning this for my archaeology class on paleo- and mesolithic.
thanks 👍
Very well explained. Thank you!
Just starting into this and this really helped me!! Thank you!!!
How do I know if my material needs to be heat treated? If so, what temp and for how long??
Is it possible to use a stone for striking instead of metal?
the marker really helped make things clear
Th ankh yah, i was havin trouble flaking, this helps
Mr Pryor when you zig zagged the Johnstone edge are the platforms you created also called deltas?
Yes indeed
I would love to buy a pound of those Sharp thin flakes for my flint and steel fire kit???
Can you give some more info about where to get raw materials, chert and flint. Most vids seem to use chert. Is it cheaper, easier to work?
Did you heat treat your stone? The stones I find in oklahoma that look like that are hard to work.
Soooo helpful! Thank you for this video.
Thanks finally I've been looking for this vid 👍👌
Very good explanations! Thank you!
Was that chert already heat treated ?
Great video thanks for taking the time to make it
Amen.
Can i make a spearhead only using an hammerstone? Without antler and using only a pressureflaker made out of wood? Because i can't find antler in my area... if you want you could make a video using only this two things... let me know.
Beautiful video btw
That's a great explanation! Thanks
Well done...5 out of 5 stars!
