I just got got a HS720e and flew it for the first time. Took me a bit to figure out some of the more subtle details about it.
The HS720e is in "Beginner Mode" right out of the box. In addition, it is set to "Tripod Mode." Hence, the short ranges and very slow speed.
Turning off Beginner Mode is easy: open the preferences in the Ophelia GO (the smartphone app) and turn off beginner mode. But turning off Tripod Mode isn't so obvious. On the hand controller, underneath the scroll wheel that raises and lowers the camera, is a button that turns the landing lights on and off with a short click. If you hold this button for a second or two, you turn off Tripod Mode and put the HS720e into higher speeds. (There is no mention of this in the manual, so I had to figure it out by watching videos of people using the HS720e.)
As far as range is concerned, that is also set in the Settings of the Ophelia GO app. If you keep the sliders all the way to the left, the range limit disappears and is not set. So if you want no range limits, don't move the sliders. The moment you move a slider to the right, it limits the range of that flight aspect.
Hi guys, really enjoyed the video. I recently purchased the HS720e and love it! I was surprised at the transmitter range issue you had. I've flown mine past 300 meters without any problems. Other reviewers on UA-cam have flown the 720e even further than that without problems. My first thought was you might have a faulty transmitter, especially since you didn't lose the FPV connection (which should be lost way before losing the transmitter connection). I would definitely contact Holy Stone and report the issue. Another positive, in my experience so far, is the level of customer service. I have reached out to them several times for help and questions and was impressed with their reply speed and providing the information requested. Also, I completed their "get a free battery" promotion and received it within one week (along with a very nice battery "fire bag"). I highly recommend this drone to anyone wanting a quality drone on a budget.

I’m not exactly sure what went wrong with your drone only going out that far because ours goes out way farther and even researching the drone again after your video, many others have their drone go out much farther too. I know this just updated the Holystone app about 3 days ago, that was suppose to correct that issue.
Hey Saylors! I love your channel. I have a Bugs 4W 4K that is somewhat similar to this. I found that in my neighborhood, range was pretty poor, topping out around 70 meters, however if you're in a park away from other wifi networks, range is much better. Also, power lines and cell phone towers affect range quite a bit. Keep up the great videos!
Hi saylors.iv had the hd 720e for a few months and love it.I had taken it many times over 700-800meters with no problems.great UA-cam chanel.Keep up the good work.
Like others pointed, quit the beginner mode and leave the distance at default settings and you'll get range upto 1000m and upto 500m with live video feed.

I have this drone since July, and it have good range 600 -800m i didn't want to go further... and it's realy great drone. And with low wind and good light this camera is perfect. :)

I've had my drone go as far as 1300 metres. Height is key to going further. Staying below 50 metres or so will not get you very far at all. Video transmission will break up around the 500 metres or so but you can still fly the drone further using the distance and altitude display on the remote

most of the HolyStones and Promarks have a whisker wifi antennas mounted horizontal on back of camera...I wonder if a better antenna could be soldered in on the drone as well and find the antenna in the transmitter and solder in a patch.
Hi, the problem with the short distance is certainly the power cables. It is also important that you use good batteries for the transmitter. I also have a 720E but mostly fly at least 500 plus meters without any signal loss. Greetings from Germany, by the way, nice video
I received mine yesterday, but it came at 6:45pm so it was too dark to make my maiden flight, so I'll do that later this morning.
What struck me immediately upon opening the package was just how dense and heavy this sucker is! :-O
Prior to my maiden, I'll have to nock it back from 4K to 1080p because my computer simply cannot deal with 4K video.
Case in point: last summer I attempted to process a 25-second 4K video (I just wanted to add music in post) and my computer was tied up for over 10 (ten) hours processing that stupid 25-second video. :-O

Jimmy a hey fellow drone flyer I noticed when you tried to put your phone in the holder you didn’t pull it forward and also on that piece coming up there’s a 1 inch flap that you flap down that helps hold your phone on much secure I did the same thing the first time and it wouldn’t hold my phone so give it a try and best of luck to you
I've flown my HS720E a number of times since receiving it; the drone itself performs flawlessly but I've been having some "issues" with the Ophelia Go app and at least half of my flights have been strictly-dictly LOS because of that.
Because Ophelia Go is pissing me off, on my last flight of today, I tried another app called, *"M RC PRO"* and had favourable results. :-)
My computer is still processing the video, so it isn't on UA-cam yet. It's been processing for at least 20 minutes (all I did was to concatenate three clips into one and add music in post) and it's only 7.6% complete -- I might not have the chance to upload it until tomorrow morning. :-/
I have the same Drone, I was having the same issue. Go into settings, upper right and turn off "Beginners Mode" it opens up the parameters so you can fly a lot further without losing signal

There is only one antennae on the remote, it's the one on the left as you look at it. The other one is just for display only
I have it and I got almost 1000 feet distance. Love it! DJI goes like 4 miles away but I dont care about that much distance, not to mention the money difference...
CAA dictates that you cant fly a drone further than you can see it with the naked eye so lol to dji I will go with the HS 720E We live in the real world

I bought mine off eBay. It was listed Holystone HS 720E/HS 105 the box it came in says HS 105. When I contacted seller, Holystone direct, they said it was the 720e with a different name on box? I’ve watched 100 videos on the 720e and my drone is definitely the same drone. Certain places I can go much farther than others? It’s range is sketchy, but the camera and flight quality are great!

My HS720e will easily go out 800m control range with the fpv Wi-Fi cutting out at 300m. My 800m remote range can turn to 250m range with a tree between or near the line of sight of the remote and the drone... 75m however is too short of a range for the HS720e with beginner mode turned off no low voltage limitation... Seems you had a lot of trees around, try a more open space to see if it's the enviroment.
Maybe this fella got a bad Drone if he is only getting 75 meters
Great video, my daughter love her HS 720 E. I myself got SG 906 pro 2. That you Visio a few back. I’m having trouble getting it in the air. 4 times a no luck so far. Had trouble with the Wi-Fi. Today I got as far as getting the Motor started but it would not lift off. motor then shut off after a few seconds. Not sure what to do next. Any suggestions? Could cold weather have any effect on it. Thanks

Yes, 800m+ control range (250-300m Wi-Fi video feed which to large degree depends on the phone and its orientation). Just keep the flat face of the left remote antenna toward the drone. If a phone is on the controller turn the left antenna downward with the flat face toward the drone. Love my 720e! The Holy Stone company is one of the best for customer service/support/warranty as well.
Hello RC SAYLORS, Do you test the drones that have non-foldable arms also. There's one that I like you to test and that's the Bugs 20 EIS.
This holy stone is really a mjx b12 eis. The b20 is the same thing without folding arms.

I have this drone and it is much better than the bugs 20 EIS, but that is just my opinion. Also Captain drone has a review on both of these drones and prefers the holy Stone over the bugs, but anyways...

I really think it may be the power lines you guys are next to. I know the signal is not having to go over/around, but lines like that can make the entire area bad for range on an RC. I grew up under lines, they messed with the 90's RCs so much worse 😂 try it somewhere with no power lines again, please.

Looks like a rebranded MJX B12 EIS. Better to put the $300+ towards a DJI mini 2 (or original Mavic mini on sale). The mini will give you ten times the performance/features for $200 more.
PS. An FPV range of 75m is ridiculous. Something’s wrong with your unit. The specs state 1640 feet FPV range and 3280 feet maximum control range. Typical mjx drones have 3000+ foot range with 600 to 1000 feet FPV. I had a mjx b2c with the same problem. Only a couple of hundred meters range. Bought a b2w later and after binding its transmitter with the b2c range exceeded 1 km.
PPS. Only other possibility is it has some type of geofencing built it that you need to override.

I might get this drone. My hubsand 501A has a fixed camera and boy am I tired of that. I've always wanted something like this that wasn't overly expensive, and I am by far not an expert at all, but I don't fly often enough to make use of such a more expensive drone. I really like the camera (including the EIS) and the fact that it have a motor on it for up and down controls.
I’m glad I didn’t get that one. I got the Holy Stone HS700D. I lose FPV at 135m but had my brother in law spot for me. Just had to see how far it would go. Stopped at 820 meters. Stops at 400 feet up that’s a good thing. Awesome. Camera is just as good. Flight time says 20min but it’s more like 15. Great drone for $270. Happy camper here.
Great showcase of this drone. I got this same one for Christmas, no issue with the distance as I was able to go up to 200m away, however I have terrible lag issues with the app that makes it unusable to fly by.

I lose signal at 65 to 70 meters and I've adjusted everything in app still get the same results...but I see videos of guys going well over 500 meters...rc sailors is the only video I've seen so far that mention this problem
I have an iPhone 11 with a protective case. When you extend the built in phone holder be sure to lift up the little black flap located closest to you. The first time I tried to put my phone on the holder I did not realize you had to lift up the little flap and it did the same thing that yours did in this video. Just completely extend the built in phone holder, lift the little tab while you push against the spring loaded front tab with your phone and it will drop right into place :)

I've been using mine for about 6 months, and I've had some of the issues you experienced, but found ways around them. I've been able to go over 500 feet distant while being over 300 feet up though, so I wonder if there was just some radio interference in your area. I lose wifi a lot but I've never lost transmitter connectivity

Holy Stone makes great drones!
Badged version of the MJX b12EIS available at half the price via the usual Chinese outlets , quite a few of the suppliers have upped their game on delivery nowadays, some have European warehouses, most are shipping via air if cost is above £20 gbp. ( applicable U.K.)This drone is also available with identical specs in fixed wing MJX b20EIS for less money. Of course, as you point out Amazon does offer decent customers service and rapid delivery, you pays your money and takes your choice. The range issue does not apply here in the U.K. as you are only allowed to fly line of sight, not the approximate area the drone is , you must be in full visual control.
Holy Stone makes really good drone products. This one is really nice and the EIS technology in this thing works great. Very smooth pan and tilt movement on the camera. Not bad at all. The price however is a bit steep for a drone that doesn’t have a 3-axis gimbal but still a great product. Thanks for sharing Nate & Abby. HNY!!
But the thing is, they don't make any of their drones, they're all made by MJX and just rebranded and overpriced it thats all
@@christopherho5821 Yeah, that’s basically what many Chinese drone manufacturers do anyway... Eachine, JJRC, Drocon, LYZRC, ZLL, GoolRC, and the list goes on. There’s still a small few out there like MJXRC and C-Fly who design and manufacture their own drones in-house.
This drone will actually go out to 1500 meters in flat open country. Height is the key to distance. If you keep it fairly low, you won't get far.
Please learn the Quads first before reviewing them. You had beginners mode on set to 200m. It has a variable beginners mode you set.
That's the first thing I do is set settings to max everything and not beginner mode.....
But it didn't make it close to 200m before losing signal
For not too much more the DJI mini 2 is very impressive. I had a DJI Mavic 2 with the hasselblat but sold it. I was able to sell it and with no additional money I bought The air 2 and the smart controller. The air 2 is extremely easy to use and has higher frame rates than it older bigger brother the Mavic 2, it feels like the air2 has more technology built in than the Mavic 2.
Yeah, I don't get why if people are $300 into a drone (especially if they are a beginner) why they would pick something like this. Just get a DJI. It might be an extra 50 bucks, but it is worth MUCH more than the small cost difference.
@@DarkpawTheWolf I wouldn’t buy anything but DJI. My first drone was the original Mavic, and have upgraded over the years. Be honest with you I can’t tell the difference between the Mavic 2 Pro with the Hasselblat camera than the new DJI Air2. They apparently have done a lot with software to make it better. I love the newish smart controller.
I got one of these for Christmas and I only got a chance yesterday to try it, The weather was around 1 degree here in Toronto, my footage was no where near as sharp as yours. It was a cloudy day and I didn't adjust any of the camera settings. I was a tad disappointed. Your video has made me wonder why I had such crappy results. I did see another video where the guy turned off the beginners mode and didn't adjust the max range slider and the drone flew to 600 meters before he got the lost signal warning.
Can you tell me what settings you rendered the video in please, I do not have a 4K TV so I tried in 1080P @ 60fps which is what I rendered the footage in. Is it better to film in 4K and render 1080P @ 30 fps?. If I can get my footage looking like yours I may keep the drone.

I have been looking at getting a drone to film some stuff for our channel. This would be my first drone and I want to buy something with a decent quality picture. On your video the quality looks good but I was a little bit concerned on the distance it would fly. I thought this drone would go further than the distance yours was going. I loved this drone from day 1. My first GPS, with brushless motors, RTH etc. Great video and everything. Then go out one day and I get NO WIFI at all and haven't since. (Maybe 4 flights before the wifi issue) Do certain phones ave issues? (One Plus 5g) I've read that this is a common prob with this drone and my only complaint. I've tried everythingI, 've read and watch alot. Nothing seems to work. I've read that the camera is what puts out the wifi signal and that once the transmitter and drone are synced there should be a red light coming from the camera. Mine does not... Any advice is appreciates. 720E Model.... Has not crashed or damaged...
Have you tried putting your phone into airplane mode then pressing the WiFi button to reconnect to WiFi (as airplane mode usually switches off WiFi). This worked for me when using the Ophelia Go app.
OnePlus have issues with this drone. I've tried that and Apple - its hit an miss with Android and Apple is always a good connection everytime.

This is a mjx b12 eis.
Video looks good if you fly it smoothly. Fly more aggressively in gusty wind and you'll see a lot of rockin and rollin. EIS can only do so much.
PS. Price should be $200 with 3 batteries and a bag.

I think you should do a review of the DJI Mavic mini 2, I’ve just got one and can not fault it, plus as it’s sub 250gm is easier to get to fly legally here in the UK!

Is there an option to set a timer for the camera and or for it to take more than one photo when you press the camera button?
it can go upto 1000 meters with remote and upto 400 meters with phone FPV on flat land without trees, no obstruction and occlusion at 100 meters height.
Indeed a good camera (+ effective EIS) on this quadcopter. But that range is totally unacceptable imo for a quad like this. I agree with you that there's no need to fly miles from yourself, but this range is even much shorter than the video-feed (which seems to be very solid). Is it possible that the antennas on the remote are indeed antennas (with wires going in) and because of that balancing act with the phone aren't pointed like they should? Just wondering.
My holystone 720g behaved well too until it went crazy many many times toilet bowling, near the ground or even in the middle of flights, not landing properly because the rear motors won't stop and skid on the ground, sometimes it goes backwards and sideways ( wifi interference from cellphone antennas on top of buildings) and you have to try to fight the malfunction the only way is to return home, (because you press right and forward it moves really slow and you let go it goes away again) also I crashed into a tree flying over 2 ladies who didn't notice because they were chatting in the park and it got some branches and crashed the gimbal stopped working and because I didn't but it on Amazon the customer service said they only honor warranty to full price around 300 and not auction from eBay ( new) but I paid 180 and they said only their authorized dealers have warranty, I still fly it just going up with the GPS take video spin and come down I don't wanna risk it by flying forward or sideways , so I comment to warn people the pros is that is very durable I crashed many times and no propeller break or the arms only the gimbal still attached but internally one hair thin wire got cut somehow and that's why it doesn't work but it might work if I solder it ....the video 4k is good but right after the sun is down gets very dark and grainy , I like the controller although it won't connect sometimes either GPS or the app but that's happening after months of flying as is
every review ive seen of this drone has spoken very highly of it, especially the camera and image quality.
lots of reviews have spoken highly about its range too, i think maybe you got unlucky with a faulty unit, its supposed to be 800 metres wifi with far longer control range.
Spoken highly about cause they get it for free if they do say that. Typical chinese amazon low tier stuff. They do this all the time i had items shipped to me almost free for leaving a good review and making a video for it.

Love the drone videos! This drone quality pitcher reminds my of my Parrot drone pic quality with more features except distance. I am learning to stay with drones with universal battery's as the older they get you cant find BRAND new manufacture ones, your just buying old unused ones. Given you’re seeing a pattern of range issues at that location, it might be good to test known-performance drones (e.g. Spark, Mavic, etc.) to see if they experience issues there ... in other words, build a baseline for expectations. Also, maybe take these other drones to a different location and see if they do better there. At least then you’ll have a better feel for how much is the drone’s fault vs. environmental factors.
If nothing else, I’m thinking the abundance of power lines all around you are probably causing all kinds of interference. Combine that with trying to maintain two radio links (Tx and FPV), and you’ve got a recipe for signal issues. 😬

Chad, very good thought my friend. I know I didn't mention this in our video, so there was no way of knowing this, but I've flown my Mavic here about 10 times or so without fault. Granted, that is a beast of a drone, but it has shown no signs of issue at all. Could be those pesky power lines, but that drone under $200 we tested recently performed great! I'll fly this drone again soon in a different spot and see if that helps. I'll find a spot with absolutely no powerlines and if that was the issue will no longer test here. So far, this location has been 50/50 on range issues out of 4 different GPS drones. Thanks a lot for the input, and for watching 👍😁😎⚓
