Hello RC Saylors! Just wondering a good drone to start with other than dji. I was going to get a bugz 5w but am open to suggestions. I've had the 2se I think it is but it has failed me. This drone will be for my son. What do you recommend? I want it to be just as easy as my old bugs was to fly. That's why I figured the 5w. Please help if you have time......thanks!

I've owned a couple of MJX drones and still have a Bugs 3. They're a really solid manufacturer who have put a lot of good models out. This looks like another one - good value for the money.
I like drones as well as you and your wife. I think you do an excellent job of covering the entire spectrum of RC keep up the good work I love it
Great review! I picked up the MJX Bugs 12 EIS , same thing, just the folding version. They're nearly identical drones. Got it about 2 weeks ago. I've flown mine for about 1 hour total, and very comparable. I preferred the folding arms so I could pack it back in the case when I'm done. The quality is not going to compete with a DJI, but I'm more into the sport flying. Working up to FPV (got the Bugs 3 and Bugs 8 pro, both due to your recommendations, Bugs 3 was my first!). Wanted an affordable GPS/camera drone that was decent quality, and this fits the bill. Not going to be using it for commercial, just personal use, so it's a great choice for that

You guys should seriously consider doing a "new-to-FPV-quadcopters" video!! There are folks who would love your perspective in switching from LOS RC to FPV. I just answered a question on a Facebook group, where a gent wanted to know what to buy and how much he'd be in to the switch. He currently flies camera-drones. You would open up a whole new content avenue!
I purchased my Bugs 20 last November and have been extremely happy with mine. I replaced the non-folding props that come with the B20 with the folding props that are on the Bugs 12. There are several videos on UA-cam that show the process.

Before I forget... when I had the DJI Phantom 3 Standard I remember that it requires prop removal before it can be placed in its case as well. 😣

An important reason for the capability to turn GPS off is if the GPS becomes overwhelmed with interference or fails midair. Rare but can cause a flyaway. I have had to turn GPS off when a drone continued flying away, not responding to the controller. I immediately regained control and brought it back in altitude hold.
I have an old iPhone 6s Plus with a Defender case. Hope it’s small enough to fit. Otherwise I will need to make an adapter.

I've got a Holy Stone HS161 on the way thanks in large part to your review. Sure, it's a brushed-motor drone but its ultimate utility as more than just a flying machine kinda makes up for that.

BTW my Holy Stone HS720E has started behaving itself -- I've had a number of great flights as of late. 😁
I just have to remember to bring the video resolution down from 4K to 1080p before each flight because my computers simply can't cope with 4K video.
Doing the props that way is really smart. There of tons of props in the FPV world that will fit on that. All different pitches. You can tune efficiency by putting a lower pitch prop on it.
Regarding the question of why shut GPS off - I believe you have to / what to shut GPS off to fly indoors- like in a gym or closed stadium.
Turning GPS off can give you smoother footage also because then you let off the sticks, the drone will drift rather than stop abruptly in an attempt to hover in position. Best done far away from trees and other obstacles :)
I had been looking at the SG 906 Beast 2/3 until I saw this drone.
I like the true 4K cam with the smooth up and down one axis gimbal and EIS on the B20. While the cam does have a bit of Lens curvature, that can be fixed in post by zooming In on the 4K image. I like the ability to adjust camera settings in the app. I am going to use it as a “crane cam” for indie film work.
I've had one since October 2020. Still pleased with it and would make the same choice if I had a do over. You can get a full size backpack through Banggood that will accept the fully assembled unit, but it isn't cheap. Big price jump since my wife got me the backpack in December for my birthday. Before that, I found a sturdy cardboard box that tomatoes were shipped in that I dropped the foam insert from the original box into, added some bubble wrap and the drone fit in perfectly without removing props.

Awesome drone, bought mine 2 months ago. I am blown away by the image stabilisation. The drone flies a distance of way more than 1000 metres, no problem. Bought my drone in the box option. It comes with the exact insert that you get with the bag and keep the drone in. I put the insert in a slightly bigger bag and never have to remove the props. Also you could buy and fit the MJX Bugs B12 EIS foldable props on the Bugs B20 EIS.

I totaly agree with you if a drone comes with a case it should fit in it without having to take out the props! Folding props would have been the solution to this...
I ordered this UAV with extra batteries and Blomiky foldable props. I plan to try my hand at a gimbal servo motor mod to slow down the up and down rotational up and down speed of the camera.

If you don't mind staying in one place when using your drone...you can pick up a cheap tripod and a cell phone mount for the tripod, and then just put the phone on the tripod. That way, you won't need to worry about balancing it on the controller.
The MJX Bugs machines seem to be more hits than misses, and this one is obviously a hit. Thanx again!
BTW, I also fallow CAPTAIN DRONE, who is in the same city I live in up here in Canada, and he has had the same thing happen to him...so he has these large red, black and white stickers he puts on his drones that he is flying so that it's pretty obvious whose drone it is. Maybe use your home printer with sticker paper to print up some orange and black stickers to put on your vehicles that say "RC Saylors Channel" to put on your vehicles when you are filming them...
The tripod is a good idea. It's a pain looking down at the phone to frame shots. I stand in one placr most of the time. Plus I have a few tripods. I'm going to try that next time out. Thanks for the tip.

In case you want folding arms and props: MJX is already catering for that too with the Bugs B12 EIS! :-) It has the same (or similar) EIS camera.
I have the DEERC version of this...the D15. From what I can see it is identical to the MJX Bugs 20 EIS. It is a great drone and I love the stability in tripod mode. Flying high in wind, it's still stable even in tripod mode.

If you get the bag version, or just want to use your original box, you can get the foldable b12 props and install them on the b20 allowing you to store it without having to remove the props each time
You had me seriously thinking about buying a drone, but then I realized, I have a bunch of other stuff that I’ve ordered that I really don’t play with as much as I’d like to, and this would probably something that would be added to that list... job well done though. New to drones and enjoy your channel. Q: What type of FAA registration do you recommend? Commercial or recreational. My concern with recreational is uploading videos that would potentially be monetized shifting me to commercial. Any recommendations?
I faced this dilemma myself recently. To keep things legal, I decided to just get my Part 107 certification and not worry about it. I intend to create videos from my drone footage accompanied by my music. Whenever money is involved, even if indirectly, it constitutes "commercial use".

Well...Nate and Abby.. I had a Samsung Mini phone for years until it died. I purposely bought a Flip Phone to replace it.. I don't think I can fly that drone with my tiny flip phone screen can I ? On a serious note I will keep an I eye on those video pirates... you guys rock and thanks for the fun.
I think adding a leg of 2 equal value resistors in series with a leg between them going to the cam servo motor power lead will decrease the up and down speed by exactly 50%.

Did you upload this video in 360p by mistake cause that all its allowing me to select up to in the quality.
Thought maybe an issue with my phone but I just checked and all other videos can be viewed in 1080p.
I know you guys are now filming in 4k and although my phone can't view 4k I can normally always select 1080p but for this video 360p seems to be the max?
UA-cam has to process each uploaded video for each eligible resolution, which takes time. If you try to play the video before UA-cam has finished processing it, you’ll be limited to whatever resolution UA-cam has finished processing. The higher the resolution, the longer it takes.
I might be wrong, but I think one way that processing sequence can be masked is by uploading the video privately and delaying the public release for a little while. That gives UA-cam a chance to do all the processing before anyone sees the video, so the high-res versions are finished and ready at launch.

I enjoy watching a drone review every now and then but since getting into fixed wing I've lost a lot of the interest I once had for them. I can see myself having one drone/quad and a dozen planes.
A comparison just crossed my mind... FOR ME... watching a GPS/Camera quad video is to watching a fixed wing video as watching a game of golf is to watching a football game. So please, when you record your drone videos would you turn down the volume?😊

Thats one disadvantage about the Bugs 20. Does not have folding arms. But if you like folding arms pick out a Holystone, or something else right?
Mabye an iron on patch would look better for you torn case. But it is close to the edge. I'd like to see a diy drone one time. Like the "FEICHAO H467 467mm DIY Drone Kit" in ebay. I learned something today about my Bugs 20 and it may be true for all drones. This is my third drone and I've had it for almost a year. I've always assumed that the location where the drone is calibrated is its Home location. Did a trial today to check on that and found that Home is where it takes off from, even if calibrated elsewhere. Not sure how far from the calibration location I can go, but even if it's just a few hundred meters that's helpful for me. Yeah, this probably isn't news for most of you, but it was a major discovery for me.
Hello bro. I own the same Bugs 20 drone and I'm encountering an issue with recording 4k or 1080p videos into ny sd card. After pressing the camera button on the controller, the camera icon keeps blinking but TF doesn't appear in the app and the camera icon doesn't go away until the take the batteries off the controller. I recently purchased the sd card after doing a thorough research so I highly doubt it's because of the sd card. Nevertheless, I'd really appreciate if you could possibly help me out with this. Thanks bro.
You have to calibrate every time when you haven't used the drone for a week or so; and you should calibrate if you are going to a new location... It only takes 5 seconds to spin around a few times lol better than losing your drone..I calibrate my imu if I notice any odd flight characteristics. And I will calibrate the gimble every other flight... Just to be safe
@@glitchesforu1184 just gonna say if you don't have a fast computer don't film in 4 k ... And in a cheap drone like this it's prob not real 4k it's prob 1080 upscaled to 4 k 1080 p is all you need if your just making vids for friends and family

I also really like the Bugs 20 and a super case that is unusable with the non folding props. I found a mod on UA-cam on adding folding props to the Quad using SG 906 folding props. The video is in Spanish so no audio for me, but you can get the idea. only the screw holes do not quite match and have to be ream out a little. the props work great and it goes in the case. Now there is another video using B12 folding props which take a little more assembly, but the screw hole look to match the Quad.

That’s definitely a decent drone especially for it’s price, as I’m wanting to buy one but I’m unsure if I want to spend more money on like a mini 2 or something of that caliber as I want something really easy to fly and has a bit of range, and I’m definitely no expert and that’s why I’m thinking something with a little more fail safes would suit me better, but I’m in no rush so I’ll definitely give everything a fair chance before I decide. Also I do hate those scammers who pray on people who really don’t know any better, and I haven’t seen a ad with you guys yet , but I’ve seen them with RcSparks and Kevin Talbot either driving their Raminator’s or their Xmaxx’s but I’m sure I’ll see the ad of you guys soon enough also , but it makes me sick to think there’s people out there not caring who they pray on and also not thinking if their also super broke spending all their hard earned or long time saved money on something they’ll never get , but people have to realize there’s one particular saying that speaks volumes and they need to use it all the time as it will help save them more then not , and it’s “ if something seems to good to be true it probably is “ and if they remember this when seeing a really good deal they think is unreal then they’ll most likely walk away or leave whatever it was they were looking at knowing it’s someone trying to rip them off ! But these people need to be reported , and definitely do what Abby says to do about hitting on their link as many times as you can if it’s a paid advertisement so these people lose all their money they put into trying to rip people off faster then people buy their fake products !! Thanks for all your drone videos. This is one of my favorite drone channels. I have a question for you. I know the Bugs 20/12, the Holy Stone 720E, and the Fimi A3 are all good drones. I cannot decide which to purchase. Which one would you buy? All three is not an appropriate answer, lol.
Tod Gak : Price wise i would choose the Bugs B20. But the Fimi A3 is the best of the lot with that awesome gimbal. Also the Bugs B12 is basically the same as the Holystone (not in looks so much), even the controller is identical. But i find Holy Stone over priced at times.
The camera in the Bugs 20/DEERC D15/HS720E is identical. I think it comes down to which form factor you prefer. If you don't mind not being able to just fold it up and drop it in a case, then the Bugs 20/DEERC D15 is a great choice IMHO. I think because of the weight, the Bugs 20/D15 flies more more steadily than the 720E resulting in less jerkiness in the footage.
I like HS and DEERC because I can get them on Amazon and returns are very easy if there are any issues. The companies are also great about replacements and parts when there are mishaps in flight.
On my second one after treeing the first one. In it's price range, paid $169 USD, it is the best as no other drone in this group has EIS.
I have this same drone and having never flown one before I stacked it against rocks but the great thing is nothing broke, it's extremely tough, and was very impressed on its steady image and great visuals. My cousin has 2 of the Mavic Pro 2's they are superb! Would love to see you do the tracking or follow me mode on the BUG. Please please please do one of those as I'd like to try that out but a little nervy.
The bug is a peice off crap and he knows it that's why he liked and didn't comment... If you like drones and think you want to do more...I suggest....dji... Or autel... Or at the bottom line. Hubsan

Like I said in the comments about the 1/72 scale Turbo Racing Mini RC RTR Car every order I've received from Banggood has always came in a taped up plastic bag, never in a cardboard box with protective packing. So be careful opening the bag. With that said I've gotten lucky and never received any damaged item from them.

The bugs 12 EIS is this drones brother except it has foldable arms, other than that, everything else is identical.
Have seen videos with people putting foldable props on this Drone and problem fixed. Haven't to get props off every single time you store this Drone in his case.

What drone would you recommend? I've owned a Xiro Xplorer V, looking for a new one. Also wondering what kind of rc plans is good for beginner in planes?
Just so people know, if you want a drone that does not have a 2 or 3 axis gimbal for video stability quality and you want good video footage like this drone that does not have a gimbal on it then you need to make sure that instead it has what is called an "EIS" on the camera which is called an Enhanced Image Stabilizer which basically is a much bigger camera Lens which focuses the image it wants in the middle and cuts out the outer image that is where all the shaking would be. So you want good picture/video image with a non-gimbal drone you need EIS to be on the drone so check that before buying otherwise you might be disappointed

mention and don't like. Too many "bad reviews" and items/money go missing. There is a european (Dutch) company, working almost in the same way, but they are to small to handle every possible product. This nice start-2-fly drone is almost double the price as in other stores. All by it, I will find one, being a long time car, boat and helicopter enthousiast, a camera drone must be next ! Keep up the nice video's !
It uses Ocusync and Abby can easily mount her phone in its large case.

I bought a Bugs 3 and the plastic was so brittle that one motor mount cracked and the SD card holder fell apart! Other than that, it does fly good.

The Parrot Bebop 2 is a much better drone in my opinion. You should try one out if you havent already.
