Great video. I never thought about using a bag around it to keep it out of the rain. I don’t use a rainfly on my Osprey Aether Pro because I avoid the rain, and if I get caught in it, most things are waterproof. If I build a SOTA manpack, I might look into a waterproof pack bag, and maybe a small 40mm 12v PC fan to keep it propped open when in use.
A 12v fan would be a good idea. That is one thing I didn’t mention in the video. Ones needs to be careful not to work the radio too hard with it in a bag for heat does build up.
Gigaparts has them on sale for $599 now! Great deal Great radio! I have had mine a bit over a year now. Had the MARS mod done and also have the Portable Zero rails. I really like mine.
Thanks! I’m a big fan of using BNC for portable setups that get put up and taken down often. Besides being fast it saves me from problems with the threads.
@@Scout75PortableRadio I definitely made an assumption since "Embrace the Suck" is a term widely used by the military, and one that I rarely see used by non-Veterans. It's a good one that applies to everyone though for sure!!
891 is a mobile radio, it's simply too heavy for portable operations. Tried SOTA with 891 once, wasn't able to climb even a half of the distance. Switched to FX-4CR and smaller battery, no problem ever since. No, I am not going to spend 8 hours daily in a gym and I am not in my 20s any more. 73!

That is a great deal! I really like my Portable Zero rails as well. Thanks for watching!
Add a short jumper for the mic so it can be disconnected without removing the faceplate.
Not a bad idea! Thanks for the tip and for watching!
Great video. Thank you for taking the time to show off the radio
Nice video and nice shirt 👍
Thanks, Ape!
Great radio for POTA hunting mobile. I use Shark hamsticks. Mostly 40 meters and 10 when its open.-N4TCM
Ooooh! Nice idea with the Velcro straps on the rails!
Thank you! They really help keep things together. I haven’t forgotten the power cable since adding them!
The bnc connection is a good idea. so the pl 259 female on the back of the radio doesn't ever get messed up I'm going to buy some for my radio.

@Scout75PortableRadio your welcome 73's God bless you and your family happy holidays coming up.
@Scout75PortableRadio I don't run portable just thought about when we have bad weather it would be easier unhooking the antenna.
Embrace the Suck! Thanks for your service, and for the video!
Thanks for watching! I've done no service to thank me for.

Outstanding review 💯 thanks
Thank you! I’m glad you liked it.
I like my FT-100D, still a good radio.
FT-100 is a great rig. Thanks for watching!
🐿️ good video Shane 👍
Thanks, Joe/Brett!
Great vidro thankyou.new subscriber
Thanks!
Which BNC connector do you use for this radio. I would like to do that.
I don’t know the brand. Pretty sure I just found the adapter off of Amazon
@@Scout75PortableRadio Gotcha. I will look around. Thanks for the great content.
Great job great radio 73 from kb2uew
Thank you for taking the time to watch!
will ft891 work with rails and fc50 tuner, all together?
I’m not familiar with the fc50 tuner. I would doubt there’s an off the shelf option but I’m sure something could be made. Thanks for watching!

Quite possibly the most modern American answer. Thanks for watching!
No tuner, no sound card, terrible menus, NO THANKS!
Yeah the 891 is so simple some people find it too complicated
Automatically no. not the perfect radio because it doesn't have vhf/uhf
No such thing as a perfect radio, especially when everyone uses them slightly differently. Thanks for watching!
thats why its perfect it doesn't have VHF OR UHF. One day you'll understand
@grandpaandlucas7054 the less I need to carry to the park, the better. Not having to have a separate radio is a good thing
