Great build. I'm a big fam of the line of Apache cases and since I enjoy going portable, I have two 4800 cases which I use to transport either my FT-891 Xiegu G90. As for the battery, I instead went with a different aproach where I have everything in the box, including a 12ah battery, one for each radio which gives me several hours of operation. And although I did purchase a cheap Explorer battery box from DX Engineering a while back, I only use that for a backup for charging phones or other non-essential things.

If your commute overlaps one of the LICW sessions you like, listen in on that. I find that pretty useful, and it works just fine on the cell phone. Just make sure that you put driving in parentheses after your name so they don't bother calling on you. I do this on occasion heading home from work and if I get home while the class is still going, then I change it up so I can participate :) Also, the Morse Code Ninja videos are bomb; they are not as convenient as the podcast, but they are amazing. gl es hpe your journey is fun! 73

I need a good larger backpack to do my ultra portable activations. The SOE backpack is too small for this purpose. Couldn’t get everything in there. I think the 5.11 Rush 24 is too small too, but I need to try to pack it up to see if it is and I can’t remember if I’ve already done that. LOL. I have the 5.11 Rush 12 and 24. The 24 is much better for organization, as it just has more pockets. I just stick my radio kit in whatever I'm currently using for EDC.

@@Scout75PortableRadio I just did it, but the video was longer than expected. I guess I pack a lot of stuff in my bag, LOL.

I ordered 4 of them and they are good. The only problem I've found in freezing weather it turns into a wet noodle so us poor Canadians only get to use them for part of the year...

Don’t let the cold weather droop concern you. They’ll work just fine. I’ve used them in sub-zero F temperatures without issue.
