This is great, I was searching the old google for this just a couple weeks ago and could not find good info, so I just tried it, and found out exactly what you spelled out above.
Thanks Grahame! 🎥📷📹
Ha ha ha cool, can't wait to check out your mixes mate!
Very helpful. Thanks for this video .📸📷
No worries!
Excellent guide!
thanks!
I appreicate you clearing this stuff up for people so all the misinformation can get buried. I've never had issues unless using a tune that happened to be ultimately by Universal, Sony, or Warner Music which you cover. Nice tip to double check before uploading! I've wasted a few hours waiting on something to upload for it to just get axed.
No worries matey!
I've done a mix, uploaded got it blocked, I re did the mix removed the songs. Now some songs that had no impact are now blocked in some territories or fully blocked. Any recommendation on what to do next? Redo, delete, trim? or should I use edited songs instead?
You don’t need to upload to a separate channel to test the mix. You can simply upload to your own channel, but keep it private. UA-cam will still scan the information all you need is 10 seconds of each track you plan on using so it only has to be a couple minutes long of audio that uploads much quicker than an hour long mix
Cool the only reason i say separate channel so you don't get strikes on the main channel, i guess been super protective of my own channel ha ha - great extra knowledge tho!
Not true. I believe the privacy setting does matter because I've had uploads that were private or unlisted and the moment they turned public... BOOM COPYRIGHT BLOCKED! It is incredibly frustrating!
And also, I've done it on separate channels and even that is inconsistent! One of my channels only had an overall partial block but the same upload on the other channel (my main channel) had a full block with a new track that got blocked (previously was NOT blocked in my 1st attempt).
Overall, this YT copyright checking nonsense is absolutely inconsistent and stupid even though it is our best bet. I honestly wish UA-cam starts listening to DJs and cut us some damn slack.
@@llyh8023 I agree it’s extremely frustrating 😡
His idea is brilliant for protecting your channel.. nothing you’ve said even touches that
Great information. Thanks for sharing! I have a problem while uploading and got copyright issue.
I've had better luck with songs in UA-cam mixes compared t songs in Twitch streams. These are good tips though.
Thanks! oh really? Are you getting takedowns now on Twitch or just muted on re-watch?
Thanks for sharing . Your video was very informative!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for sharing all this info with us!
You are so welcome!
For those who have trouble finding the "details" as the UI often changes:
- Go to a recently uploaded videos details (sometimes when the video is uploading or being processed the details won't load)
- On the right of the screen under "VISIBILITY"
- There is a "COPYRIGHT" card and if you rollover you can see button for details
Oh nice thanks!
Only Russia are missing out on my mixes as they're the only country that gets constantly copyright restricted on my videos 🤣. Personally I don't really care about not being able to monetize as they're just there to act as my portfolio for when I send to local radio stations or bars/clubs.
Also, my latest mix is releasing this Thursday at 5pm 📸📷
Nice! Yeah i wouldn't worry about moneytising and moneytise other ways as you say. Yeah i was checking ours and it seems only Russia, China and South Korea was most of the countries missing out.
Haha same Russia missing out!
Super insightful video g, clears up a load of old bad information 👌
Glad you enjoyed
do you know if this works for spotify as well?
For mixes? you can't upload mixes to Spotify at the moment, because they can't give the royalties to the right owners. but they might change this year, there has been some noise about it
HERE'S A QUESTION I NEVER GET AN ANSWER TO...
I want to upload DJ Mixes of all my "OWN" content that I own and am licenced to use through CDBaby BUT there will probably be more than one track from a single album.
1.) Will UA-cam block my mix of my own content because I use more than 1 track from a single album or EP?
2.) I am fine with all my tracks being Content ID Claimed because all the money comes to me BUT how will I get my mix unblocked if I use more than 1 track from one of my EP's or Albums? Do I need to dispute EVERY mix? (I hope not)
3.) I know this will be a lot more easy with an "Official Artist Channel" but I have been having trouble trying to get it linked up to my Topic Channel. I applied for a second time.
Thanks for the question, if you own all the tracks and all the rights to the tracks cos you've self released them or its your label then all you need to do is whitelist your channel with your distributor for the tracks and you won't need to approve or claim them each time it will auto do it for you.
@@grahamefarmerdt
Thanks for the reply. I am not sure that answered my question though...UA-cam has an internal policy beyond the distributor's control that if you use more than 1 track from a single album on the same video it's possible they could block that video....
So do you think youtube would ignore that policy or somehow alter it in their system if CDBaby whitelists my account?
I have a lot of EP's & LP's coming out that I want to put into the same mix.
Half of the reason for me producing is because I saw so many DJ's with lots of views on their DJ mixes but get zero money and I have a way now to make 100% of the money from the views of my future DJ Mixes.
(All of the songs will be Content ID'd ahead of time to make sure no one else tries to claim ownership of my DJ Mixes)
Just put Up my first DJ Live Mix thanks for clearing out my concernes 🎥📷📹
Glad I could help, hope it does well!
Need HELP....I always test my mixes and keep them as a draft, unlisted or private. I'll wait a few days to see what songs get blocked. The songs that get blocked (if any) I don't use. I make my mix, upload to public and it usually gets blocked. Now there are new songs that have copyright problems that I wasn't told the first time when I tested. Very frustrating. I redo my mix and reupload. Because of this, I'm barely getting any views when I have to reupload a dj mix. It seems that the algorithm doesn't like reuploads of the same dj mix / video and I'm getting shadow banned. Not sure what else to do. Any help would be appreciated.
I feel you! This happens to me as well. Super frustrating!
Question bro. This makes sense with full song mixes, but how do you check for times when you use small one / two lines in mega mashups? I have seen videos by DJ Ear worm or Adam Wright ( Both AMAZING of course), that contain snippets from some of the wor'd's biggest songs and they are not blocked. Is there a max length that you can use?
Just make a test lil cell phone video with your mashup over it. Nothing will happen even if it did get flagged cuz you didn’t proceed with the upload. If you wanna hear if the ear candy gets flagged make sure you just include a lil bit before and after of that part. More than likely the algorithms won’t catch it cuz it’s too quick. UA-cam is gonna let you know everything before actually proceeding with upload and if you wanted to take it a step further then upload as private and see what happens
Great information. Thanks for sharing!
No worries, glad it was helpful!
Awesome video Grahame! Thanks for the info!
My pleasure! glad it helped!
Great video! I have recently started my UA-cam Channel as a DJ and dealing with all this can be overwhelming. Can someone as a current youtube DJ actually confirm you can monetize mixes in some way? I am getting mixed answers.
Any idea why previously allowed tracks are suddenly hit with copyright claims?
I’ve got a mashup where both tracks are still allowed but apparently the agent of one of the artists has put a copyright takedown claim.
Maybe due to one of the tracks is about to be released in a new edit so they pulling other edits.
Could be change of distribution or rights holder, maybe a bigger label brought up loads of rights and it’s switched hands and therefore content systems
@@grahamefarmerdt
It is nuts. I uploaded a 1 hour 40 minutes mix, it came up with only two partially blocked songs (both in Russia and Belarus so I don't care) and it uploaded ok and is visible.
Made a longer 10 hour mix that had suddenly like 60+ issues, that is not news...
But this is; It says - "blocked in all countries" - in some of the exact same songs that did not cause ANY copyright issues on the first mix a week before and are still visible.
This is ridiculous. How can the same song (and there were a few of them, not just one) go from no issues at all to "blocked in all countries" from one mix to another?
I have a lot of mixes done but why upload them if the whole thing is a lottery?
@@ilove90s74 did you ever figure this out? is it a time length of mix thing?? maybe getting classified as a music playlist??
@@Hyakfm No I did not. Still no clue at all. Stopped uploading. I guess I just keep them to myself.
Its vexing like how are djs suppsed to thrive online ? @ilove90s74
Thanks Grahame📸😎
No worries!
On your raw test mix, do you have the play the whole track or just a portion of it?
@@eldiscorayao going through all this just to post a mix on youtube is discouraging to say the least.
I just test a portion, once you know the labels that don't get pulled it will make it easier the second time around for sure.
Last night after uploading an old reggae dj mix i got this copyright thing, with one banning it from Russia and Belarus. I panicked so i removed it but it looked weird so ended up deleting it. To be honest, i dont care if its monetized or not, specially as im beggining. Thinking ill upload it anyway
It that's all you got as a ban, i'd upload it, it should be fine.
@ I did mate, thanks!
@@Benedictoindub Oh nice, how's it doing?
@@grahamefarmerdt well for the moment I guess not too hot lol, just 37 views. Its just my first video and its been up for a few hours. Actually have a couple more sets coming up, with better edition etc, although what matters more is the music of course
Great video Grahame 🙌🏼
Hi i am a new sub!How can i get my radio show promoted more than soundcloud or mixcloud? I tried youtube but dont wanna change all my tracks as got blocked for copyright. But i see many djs doing it on youtube..
@@pepeee548 it's so discouraging and going through all this to have a mix approved for youtube is just nuts ...
Did this and intially allowed my mix except for in Belarus & Russia. The mix went live and then it was blocked globally.
Same happenned to our dj mash up mixes
🎥📷📹
Oh sick! gonna check it out!
Im getting this problem when i put out mix i really love music im getting copyright claim i even explain is just for entertainment purpose help me brother
So how is it that some djs have mixes of alll mainstream artist's like beyonce and such with millions of views ? I just uploaded a mix and after 20 views the whole 2 hour mix was blocked worldwide keepnin mind all the songs used where acrually sent byy the record labels so why is this happening ?.
What's the mix? a bigger channel get their channels whitelisted by labels as they are essentially promotion for the big records.
What music did you play?
@@grahamefarmerdt a mixture of mainstream rap artists and underground artists. All of them combined don't equal up to the mixes floating around online with all mainstream artists that never seen to get blocked .
📸
Thanks for your info!
No worries, hope you found it useful?
what about remix songs?
How do you mean?
@@grahamefarmerdt for example a house music remix of a chart song, I had over 900 videos on my channel that was copyrighted due to the vocals in them! & UA-cam stopped my monetisation so I had to delete them all.
What if I just pitch up or down the entire video?
For a whole dj mix?
Yes what if I pitch up for a whole mix, would UA-cam detect it then?
You mentioned creating a dummy YT Channel. Have you made a video of how to do this ? Or would you recommend?
I’m worried if I add a channel under my user name YT may strike the main channel more if I upload a “dummy mix” and it sets off a bunch of copyright alarms.
Just create a gmail account call Alextestdjmix@gmail.com or something then create the UA-cam channel attached to that account so its completely separate from the main channel and accounts..
I've found if you DON'T Play tracks under Sony, Universal & Warner then You're absolutely Fine. My 2 cents/experience so far
Thanks! Yeah I would deffo suggest that too, if you stay underground then you are good
📸
Great video!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
appreciated.
no worries! hope it was helpful!
📸 thank you so much for the info, this is what I was looking for. Would really like to grow my channel and start monetizing my works
Informative video which is all well and good - addresses first and second examples - but does't address the third where video is "Blocked in all territories" where "No one can view this video"... advice? Redo I guess. Clam is for music from the 60s and 70s. Alternative is to file a dispute.
Yeah potentially submit a dispute on fair use, or redo the mix without
📸Got a community warning for live streaming, but when I chopped and reuploaded the videos the copyright was on affected green ticks all around.. because of UA-cam bots I can't get a straight answer or the waring removed!! 📸
Interesting thanks for the insight, did you get a takedown on the stream or did it carry on?
@@grahamefarmerdt yes this live got taken down, but the individuel sets I re-uploaded after the live are fine
That’s cool 👌🏼 yeah for live it seems the best place is still twitch or upload the mix to UA-cam and do fake like with the premiere feature

thanks for the tip, i'll advise the editing team
😂😂😂😂 no helping at all.
Sorry then... it looks like your channel isn't a DJ channel tho.
Thanks a million for this video - I've been DJing for over 25 years and over lockdown thought I'd try and put some mixes on YT and I got worried when I saw copyright issues, so haven't uploaded hardly any mixes, finally got around to googling it today, cos I listen to so many mixes on YT and keep thinking - well, how the hell are they publishing their mixes on YT? It's just as you said, when I looked at the copyright issued songs they were in either in Russia or Belarus - so all good!! Am getting excited to start uploading some more mixes now, have now subscribed and will be following you for more tips - thanks a lot and if you want to check out some of my mixes please do so.
