      @@4ever4g0tten that doesn't make a difference. It's the relative differences that count. That's why if you cover a song in a different key you still have to pay up/get permission. And If you sing / chant a song at a football ground completely out of key, the venue still has to pay out publishing royalties.

    As a producer people get away with this from top to bottom as long as the song is fire 🔥 do what you want with it ! I regret trying to do things the right way for the longest time . If it’s good put it out if you get in trouble take take it down . Don’t limit yourself . Keep making 🔥🔥🔥

      @@uxitafari4593it's not technically OK. It's destined for a lawsuit later, if its fire. But I've found its far better to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.
      The music is FOR US, therefore, cannot ACTUALLY be owned. Nor can the Written Word. "Copyright" is the biggest FRAUD that has ever existed in the history of all "Mankind". Because it's definitely NOT in the benefit to ALL HUMANITY, whatsoever.

    Alternate ways could be sampling the piano cover, and then using the Melody to Midi feature in Ableton, or daw of choice, adjusting the notes if needed. Or simply looking for/downloading the midi of the song you want to use. Although learning to play a song seems more fun, but I bet is time consuming.

So much for that idea...

  • @sandalero
    @sandalero 4 місяці тому +1

    ableton uses fourier transformation and complex math to extrapolate midi from wav. remember that in a polyphonic wav file you have all the frequencies and overtones of not just one note (that would mean a chord where there is just a single line) BUT many notes on top of each other. a full arrangement. thats why its hundreds of attacks (midi note on) and hundreds of "wrong notes" on top (overtones). peace

  • @Bthelick
    @Bthelick 10 місяців тому +1

    Careful out there, for any cover or remix it depends on the artist, some will aggressively strike the channel (lots of rock bands like eagles , iron maiden , guns and roses etc) are known to do this. Those strikes count and threaten the channel too.
    Also check the laws in your country, there's a weird law in the UK regarding cover songs, if you are making a cover with lyrics, you are only allowed to keep the original structure you can not change the order. Also you need to acquire a mechanical license to release it officially (distrokid will sort out the last bit for you though)

    • @xl1524
      @xl1524 8 місяців тому

      @Bthelick - Could you then answer my question as L.Dre might be too busy at this moment in time - If I did a cover that was originally an instrumental and I wrote a song to it, how do I go about releasing it and would I now be a writer or would ALL the publishing go to the original songwriter? The company I use to release song are CD Baby. What would I need to do in order to release the track so it can be purchased digitally by the general public? What steps would you take?

    • @Bthelick
      @Bthelick 8 місяців тому

      @@xl1524 Good question, this is messy situation. ( Bear in mind I can only speak for the typical approaches taken in the UK and US. )
      First of all CDBaby no longer allows cover songs (that's why I recommend Distrokid) If you still want to release through CDbaby then you will have to manually source a mechanical licence.
      this involves getting permission from every original writer on the track and also the publisher(s)
      BUT before I go into that I don't think your situation is a "cover", what you are describing here is more of a remix situation.
      Technically you are adding composition/writing to the original yes, but the copyright systems are not well placed to handle this, so typically this would be classed as a remix. what usually happens in a remix is you are paid a flat fee to remix and all publishing (writing) royalties go to the original artist and all recording royalties to whoever paid for the remix. You still need permission from every song writer involved. In your case as this might not be an 'official' commissioned remix , if they do give permission and no other agreement is required, then you may get to keep your streaming /sales revenue (recording royalties) if the recorded remix is entirely your work (meaning no samples used). If you used any of original instrumental and you can't convince the original writers to make a new recording and release it as a new collab or ft. then that is just like any other sampling case, you need permission and you will not be elidable for either writing or recording royalties usually (again all dependent on what agreements are made with writers, publishers and labels)
      More likely though if a big publisher or label is involved there will want an agreement in place beyond just the permission , which will usually result in them taking all royalties anyway. Or it might just not be possible as most recording contracts I see these days from big labels forbid remixes not commissioned by themselves.
      You can use discogs or wiki to find the original writers and publishers credited.
      (cdbaby don't allow remixes either btw )

    2 things can happen if you don't:
    1) lil Nas X or 2) Juice Wrld.
    lil Nas X bought a beat from Online beat maker YoungKio for old town road. That beat contained an illegal sample of a Nine Inch Nails track, when NiN approached YoungKio & lil Nas , they agreed to wrong doing , and all agreed to cut in NiN on the track and everyone was happy.
    Juice Wrld sampled Sting for Lucid Dreams (the main loop no less) but refused to give credit , got his ass sued, and lost all revenue / royalties.
    do the right thing kids. Just clear it first , take it from me you don't wanna be in court instead of making music, its the must stressful, least creative, energy draining and financially draining situation you'll ever face. not worth it at all.

    @uxitafari4593 it's not technically OK.

    Covers like this is something i feel AI will learn to make very good, and very soon "it is already here, but need a better UI", to a level human versions will never be "needed" .. Where making music from scratch will be a way bigger problem for AI.
    When i say that covers for AI is almost here, i dont mean that AI will make hits every time, not at all, i just mean that AI will come so close to hits that a human very easy can listen to 20 AI made covers and pick best parts from those and make one final super cover with very little music making skillz, only good taste.
    AI will not remove humans from good music making, but will change how we make music, 100% sure.
