That's why I admire all of you installation, repair and modification guys and gals. I'm a Mechanical Technician and a Facilities guy. If I had time I would do modifications on my WRX but it's so nice to watch you all good. A great video brother. Happy 4th July.
Remove it all as one assembly. Much easier. Don’t take the bolts off from the intake manifold to the tgv’s. Removed the tgv to head bolts and remove the intake with everything still attached. Then remove fuel lines, those pain covers, tgv etc with it all off the car
Nice video. Labeling the hoses and wires is a super smart idea. Also ziplock bag are your best friend for disassembly. You can label them so you know exactly where that hardware goes when you put it all back together.
Happy I discovered your channel bro! I'm planning to get a 2020 STI soon, so watching your vids is super cool, and also crazy educational! So thank you for that my man.. I would love to see more vids of you actually* doing the mods/work, etc, like this one. Thanks for helping in building my love and excitement for these great cars!!
Thanks for this video and all your other videos. I was able to tackle the removal of my intake manifold, rails, lines and injectors using your guide. Honestly, wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. Also, thanks for mentioning the bit about the COBB inlet. I never noticed there was a difference with any of them and noticed I have the V1 as well, decided to keep it since you can jump the PCV diagnostic sensor plug. Keep up the great work with the videos 👍
I’ve watched this and 1 other video like 40 times in order to get ready for Friday 😂. The other video had you pulling the engine harness, pumps, and alternator. Screw that way I’m doing it this way instead much less to forget. Plus I have after market fuel lines, no air pump, and no injector “body armor” so it should be easier. Thanks again for another great video.
Did you put the fuse for your fuel pump back in? Don't forget it because when you go to start it up when you get done and it's not there, it's gonna suck and you will have do many other things to it, something this simple could be forgotten. Its fun to see you build this car up. It's finally here, no more talking about it, just do it!
Just want to say thank you for all your videos and the infos you put out here for the Subaru community. They're really informative and the video edits make them enjoyable to watch. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for solving my problem, brother from another mother. I love all your videos actually. Thank you so much once again and over again p/S: screw those who dislike your vids
@@Smeedia 🤞I'll go for it, i've seen people removing the intake manifold the way you did, and others taking it out with the harness and hoses attached. Dont know which way will be less complicated. Something for sure the majority mention is that damm injectors bracket can be a pain I.T.A. sometimes.
That injector bracket is a huge PIA, personally I've always would it a hair easier for me at least to remove the manifold by itself and leave the harness
@@Smeedia thanks bro, I'll go that route, i guess if im taking the intake manifold out won't need to add coolant in the new radiator yet, although im still waiting for that damm radiator to arrive, same thing with the tial wastegate, rallysportdirect told me, minimum 8 weeks it takes to arrive, luckily i found a Grimmspeed ceramic uppipe with ewg flange used on ebay, it was missing 2 studs which i already ordered the hardware, only job to do is find the dump tube or my tuner do one for it. 🤞
Planning on doing turbo feed lines and worried about taking the manifold off? Is it really as bad as it looks. I’m an mechanic but work on BMW’s daily and ever tackled this job just feeling anxious 😬
Hey Smeedia, I was wondering where to resource the crush washer for the banjo bolt you have to take off by the fuel line @9:02ish? I’m planning to do this soon and want to have any various parts I need to order
If you just need to take the intake manifold out and not the TGVs, do you have the undo the bolts of the TGVs and fuel injectors? Or can you just to do it without it if youre just going to take the intake manifold out only?
Technically yes, but you'll run into the issue where the intake manifold can't really move because the fuel lines are bolted to the bottom. It will be alot easier to undo the tgvs with it
I mainly use them to get a bump on the intake manifold height to help with clearance but I theory they would help reduce heat transfer between the engine and the intake manifold 👀🙏
Bro how in the world did you reach the 4 bolts under the manifold. I am currently removing the manifold and everything is disconnected except those 4 bolts.
is that the Perrin master cylinder brace? Looks like a much easier install than the Grimmspeed piece, i wanted to shitcan that whole fuel rail dampener assembly in that area when i was done. I've done a brace on every Impreza I've owned and the 08+ STI was the worst fitment puzzle of all.
Is there a reason you didn’t leave the fuel lines attached to the underside of the manifold and just pull out the lines and manifold as one so you don’t have to mess with the bolts on the underside of the manifold? I’m doing an almost identical build except with a dom 1.5 in 2 weeks
I replacing all of my fuel line with the IAG set so just wanted to get it out of the car. If you remove the manifold with the TGVs attached still you can just pull it out. But you'll still need to remove the bolts underneath for the wire harness
Nice video! Random question tho, I noticed your top camber plates are maxed. Did you trim anything up top to prevent the bag from hitting the strut wall?
Bro, i like your video!!! cause i was looking for one like this for my little project lolll.... i have a 2007 wrx Limited and a friend give a 2008 sti manifold without the tav and other stuffs.. just the red part... and wanted to install in on my wrx cause i like the red part.... do you think it will fit? no issues after?
It will not fit without changing the turbo and IC 😢 the STI manifolds throttle body sits in a diffrent location and the turbo Nd manifold will not line up properly 😢
The bracket on the passenger side actually 1: Supports the Coolant Reservoir and 2: Also used for some aftermarket FMIC’s. The Drivers side serves absolutely no purpose.
Do you need a tune for an aftermarket intake, namely the grimmspeed stealth box? I know this video wasn’t about an air intake, but thought I’d ask anyway! 😂
First time I took off the manifold I was a complete idiot and was disassembling the fuel lines when it was off the car right in front of the water heater. Turns out there was still fuel in the lines and it shot out when I wrenched a bolt off so a one foot stream of fire was shooting out the water heater and my intake manifold caught on fire. Had to replace a connector for a spark plug and probably could've caught the house on fire that day lol

Good info , I wish you were closer , I'm in Canada , I would send you a 207 long runner intake ! They are plentiful here !
Those are nice runners, I wanna swap over to a PW or another larger Inrake manifold 😁
@@Smeedia Had vision's of you with that long runner and a big rotated turbo setup but it's easy to spend other people's money ! Have fun ...
Where do u live man? And how much you charge! If close to NY Albany area very serious
Why tune elsewhere when you have Cobb AP?
What crush wash do you need for that banjo bolt? Is it the same one for your oil pan drain? Also do you know the torque spec for it?
It's a smaller copper washer, they're like $0.30 each from subaru
Yo love the content dude🙌🏼 btw phenolic spacer, snake oil or worth the time/$$$?
I mainly use them to get a bump on the intake manifold height to help with clearance but I theory they would help reduce heat transfer between the engine and the intake manifold 👀🙏
Question about the shields for the fuel rails. Is there a way to remove the passenger side shield permanently and still mount your tmic?
I haven't had a TMIC in a while but I don't think the top lount uses any mounting spots on the bracket
Bro how in the world did you reach the 4 bolts under the manifold. I am currently removing the manifold and everything is disconnected except those 4 bolts.

Yessir and OTS Map will work 😁
Did you have to remove the alternator to get to those bolts under the manifold?
Nope, left the alternator fully in place 😁
There’s room to squeeze a wrench underneath?
Barley but yes, after its unbolted from the TGVs you can move it around enough to get it in there
Are you planning on relocating the battery in the trunk?
Not right now but later down the road I would like to
Dunno about you, but I'm definitely not attaching the 10mm bolts back to the fuel lines under the manifold when mine goes back in lol
I'm using Braided line going forward so not even putting it back in lol
What is the hose connected to the throttle body and where does the other end connect to?
Coolant line for the throttle body
Smeedia I have the TGV deletes and I no longer have that hose. Is that going to affect the cooling of the engine?
Is this for the FA20 or the EJ?
Smeedia EJ
TGVs and the throttle body don't share a coolant hose so it should be hooked up unless it is bypassed
