      Let's be realistic here... first off, we just played 3 "superbowl teams" in 11 days. We know we arnt a sb team. You lied yourself into thinking we were if you ever thought so. Our o line and d secondary dont even come close to deserving a sb game. The rest of the team is pretty solid with a few inconsistent elements like passing. gp being our only used guy and russ slump / inconsistency. Albeit when russ is "cooking" I actually think our offense could run in the sb if yhe o line doesn't have a usual horrendous pass blocking day.
      It's not tomlin. It's the team. He doesn't have the team. Bill wouldn't have the team. Or whatever tomlin replacement you dream of also wouldn't have the team in this scenario. We are a 1st second round out team based solely on matchup. What's the big deal? You want to have a more balanced team? Okay say goodbye to minkah, watt, highsmith, Hayward... I'd rather have them though. And I'd definitely rather have tomlin instead of x replacement (who can not be better than him).

    The defense was doomed the moment they let Brian Flores move on to Minnesota and the Steelers kept Teryl Austin. Have you actually seen Teryl Austin’s play sheet, you can see on any game when they zoom in on him, it’s the size of a notecard…literally. This man only knows to play zone and let Joey Porter cover man to man. And if the front 4 or 5 don’t get pressure the secondary is exposed. It’s Mike Tomlins ego that needs to be checked, his decisions have single handedly cost this franchise many wins. He’s a losing coach in the playoffs. It’s time for a change. It’s been time for a change for a few years now

    I love Mike T as a person and have been a fan of his since I was a kid. But as I've gotten older, this dude has become the ultimate hypocrite and coward. "We don't live in our fears", yet we give up in the fourth quarter down 2 scores. Also, I hate when people put majority blame on Russ. This dude has been rock solid for the most part given the lackluster receiving core including van Jefferson, scotty miller, and the corpse of mike Williams. Not to mention an absolute joke of a tackle tandem. Its the same song and dance year after year and if coach t couldn't win with the killer b's, he never will. The moment it became clear that Tomlin needs to go is the drive that Kc ran the same play 8 times and marched down the field with ease and Tomlin and Austin insisted on staying in the sorry zone defense that has been getting dog walked for the last month. I hate to say it but if Tomlin cant get out of his own way, he needs to go elsewhere....

Smith is objectively better than what we've had even though I pull a clump of hair out everytime a scheme for a 3rd string is done or a 1st down run eith najee for 1 yd. It still got better. Tomlin says changes are coming, not going to keep doing the same thing….Tomlin is 3-8 in the playoffs since 2011. This year is exactly why he has not been coach of the year ever. If Tomlin resigns or retires that is the change needed. I don’t think AR III has the constitution to end this ridiculousness. They say they want to win a SB but limp along with a coach with an abysmal playoff record over the last 15 years. Same thing again, Tomlin’s team falls flat on its face.

  • @nobodyspecial1857
    @nobodyspecial1857 18 днів тому +14

    The only change that's realistic, is to embrace physicality. Expecting a boxer to switch to fighting as a southpaw, is rarely even considered unless perhaps a veteran boxer who has years of experience, with the years of boxing IQ. That's how I view the idea of having very young players try to master the "technique" required to zone scheme block. When Ryan was playing they ditched the zone scheme to make him comfortable, gap scheme is what you learn and know from biddy ball thru the college games. 2 seasons ago remember when they couldn't run the ball at all, had the early bye, ditched the zone scheme and the pads started popping, playing the way that got them to this level. The players have lost faith in the game plan, both sides, these game plans aren't working at all, what's most upsetting to the players probably is, these schemes don't let the players to compete physically, they can't play with the instincts they have always played with, instead they have to think, think about "technique", or think about responsibility of who should do what in a zone defense, instead of just running with a receiver... thinking about what's required, playing southpaw,, doesn't work with this young team. The only change that can be made is to let them play "physically", both sides. I'd rather see db's get 5-7 illegal contact flags than watch the zone just get carved up. I'd rather see the o-line try to play with physicality and determination and attitude, then see them "do their technique properly, or block southpaw". You know why Isaac hasn't looked as good as he did in Philly? He hasn't become efficient in his southpaw blocking. Can't fire players up to think/technique harder, why they always come out flat. Coach needs to put his foot down and return to basic football play and play with physicality and fire

Problem is people give Russ the same excuses they wouldn’t give Justin and he’s been in the league 9 years less. Justin is the better qb as he could’ve been 6-0 if it weren’t for that botched snap and the defense selling his clutch TD drive to go ahead. Rock bottom actually comes in the next game to the Bengals. The Steelers have expired for the season. Smith refuses to use his best players consistently and the Defensive Coordination operates at a high school level with a zone defense Every top qb can pick apart at will and middling qbs can use as a learning experience. After the Bengals trash them on Jan 5 and they are put out of their misery by Whatever Team they play, their first order of business should be to find A REAL DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR…….and then tell Arthur Smith either use the Best Performers ……..or go back to Atlanta…..( I now better understand the fan’s frustrations with Tomlin as he oversees the whole debacle hiding behind a plethora of alleged ‘ clever sayings’)……Enough is Enough already……

    As an admitted Tomlin apologist, I gotta admit that it’s the coaching and much less on the players. The team and their moments of unpreparedness, and subpar defensive and offensive game plans, from such a long tenured coach are finally making me think a change is needed.
    The defensive scheme is so vanilla and easy to pick apart. With so many high end players on the D, I don’t know how that’s even possible.
    I 100% agree that the offensive plays take too long to develop. It’s unfathomable just how often the WRs are not open. Most of the successful passing plays seem to be off of broken plays, not the actual play.
    Hoping for the best but it may be time for a major shakeup.

    Dk, after three losses to good teams, is it now clear this team isn’t going to make a deep run in the playoffs? Russ is better than Justin today… but why should Pittsburgh take the “win now” mentality and sign Russ and cut Justin? Russ has at best 3 years. Justin can easily play for another decade. I just fear three more years of going 10-7 and losing another wild card game and then beginning the qb search all over again. Justin still needs development but I think he can get better over time in a good system. He showed massive improvement over his time in Chicago.

    Cam Sutton shouldn’t be on the team, never been good in coverage. He’s always out of position.
    The Steelers are never mentally strong, we always have a stretch where we have to be motivated by having our backs to the wall. I appreciate Mike Tomlin, he’s never out coached anyone. Any time we play a competent coaching staff, they run circles around us. I will never say NFL players aren’t tough, but I will say some are tougher than others. People bully us upfront on both sides, we are not as talented as our payroll and our coaching staff is subpar.

  • @chrisdavis1301
    @chrisdavis1301 18 днів тому +1

    Good show DK. The defense is going to catch all the heat for this one, but I’m singing a different tune. Our offense isn’t good enough for a shoot out. That’s why Tomlin said that comment about the turnovers. We need the ball on a short field or an extra possession. The personnel choice at times seems like a hope and prayer situation. Particularly giving the ball to Coradelle Patterson on a 3rd and 4. Our
    only explosive runner is Jaylen Warren. Dan Moore missed a block that would’ve put Najee 1 on 1 with a player that he probably would’ve hurdled his way into the end zone. Of course that’s a bit of a reach, the point is Dan Moore missed the block.
    J1Q, do you think it would be beneficial for Tomlin to hire someone who can reduce turnovers from our skill players. Najee, Pat, and GP all have turned the ball over and critical game moments. Grady Brown, I believe is a turnover specialist for the defensive side of the ball. Do you think he should have someone doing the same for the offensive side of the ball?
    The three losses stink. I think offensively we’re missing a dynamic playmaker. It doesn’t necessarily have to be wide receiver. I think it’s also time to consider our running back situation. I love Najee, but we lack explosive/field flipping player or players. I also didn’t like Russell Wilson being sacked that many times some of that was on him and some is on the offensive play calling because there were times where all of the players were covered so there wasn’t much we could do.
    Last thought/comment. I asked this as a J1Q, when the schedule first came out what kind of product do we think is gonna happen when players have to play three games in 11 days. Other teams have to do it too is a bunch of malarkey. It’s just a horrible product and a way for teams to fail. Proper preparation prevents poor performance. You have to wonder how much practice time is really afforded. Not time for fundamentals drills. I’m glad that stretch is over.
